Well, during the last part of the '02 season, the guy showed he can chuck it up there with the likes of Stan from South Park. Can he keep it up in '03? Or, should our expectations be mitigated as what he did was done in the "garbage time" of the season? Can he continue to succeed when defenses start "game-planning" for him? Can he stay healthy for a full season? To me, that is the biggest question mark and, unfortunately, we'll never know until it happens. In any case, I, for one, like his prospects for next season. He has good tools with which to work and a QB-friendly head coach, who handpicked him no less, and he will have a somewhat soft schedule. It is also worth noting that he put up those numbers last season against some decent defenses with playoff aspirations.

Guys, answer this question for me. What do you think finally lit a fire under Hasselbeck's ass/made him play well all of a sudden? Maybe, just maybe, having Jeff George behind him in practice throwing, from what I read and heard, ROCKETS made Matty feel a little more of a sense of urgency. Before, when he did play in regular-season games, he never had anybody really breathing down his throat as he was always coming in when the starter got injured and Matt Lytle, who showed even less promise, had been the #3. So, again, what is your guys' take on why he finally put it all together?

To be honest with you Steg, I have no idea what turned this guy around. I laughed at the guy who picked him up last year and used him down the stretch as his QB, but he wound up winning our Super Bowl, so who's laughing now.
As for next year, I could easily see him being a top 7 QB. He has two very good WR's in Jackson & Robinson & the Seahawks seem to always be in those wild shoot out games. I think he represents great value in rounds 6 -8.

Tough question. I actually think the Seahawks offense could be potent next year. Hasselbeck was probably the best QB in the league down the stretch last year. The Seahawks were playing from way behind a lot too. I think he will have a decent season this coming year. I do not think he will put up those kinds of numbers for a 16 game season. Unless of course, the Seahawks defense doesn't improve. I think he will be a solid QB and could be a steal in a later round.

For me, the more pertinent question is, "why didn't Matt play up to his potential earlier?". For those who watched him dominate the preseason over a two year period, I don't know many who didn't expect him to step into Holmgren's offense and immediately be effective. It's a headscratcher. Anyway, being displaced by Trent Dilfer and having a proven passer like Jeff George brought in after the Dilfer injury must have shown him that "time waits for no one". Lots of guys have gotten an audition and when they failed to produce, returned to being a career backup (Doug Pederson / Shane Matthews / Rob Johnson, etc.).

In any case, I'm one of those guys who rode the Hasselbeck horse at the end of last season, and I'm a believer going into this year. I like to participate in larger leagues (12 - 14 teams) to spread the talent, and anticipate guys like Hasselbeck & Trent Green to be available in rounds 5 & later.

Everything points to Hasselbeck having a fine season - Koren Robinson finally "got it" at the end of the season; DJax is a 1B receiver (assuming he doesn't get signed away); Jerramy Stevens was playing better at the end of his rookie campaign; Alexander in the backfield to keep them from being one dimensional.

In short, I like this guy alot! ;D

I'm kinda scared, because the guy in my keeper league has both Hasselbeck and Robinson. They could be a leathal combination next year.
