Title: Willis McGahee return sooner then expected?
Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Feb 10th, 2003, 6:09pm
I was watching Pardon the Interruption on ESPN today, and they mention that Willis McGahee's doctor has stated that McGahee is way ahead of schedule and could very well play in the NFL this season.

I've tried looking for news of this on the internet, but came up empty. If this is the case, and the NFL team doctors fine nothing else wrong with him, he could very well become a HUGE steal in the late 2nd to 3rd rounds of the draft.

Here is a link to the story KJ:

Dug it up on the Herlad's web page. Enjoy. Sounds like the Doc and Willis are trying to raise his draft stock.

And, BW, might I ask... by what means exactly were you able to so readily dig this informational gem up?  That would have been by way of the... ?? ;) Just "pluggin' away," my friend! ;D

Good news for McGahee, but does anyone think his "real", not fantasy, draft position will dramatically improve?  Just wondering if teams will consider him a huge risk.

CoachH, like the Patriots and Parcells did back in '96 when they drafted a very risky Curtis Martin, who had suffered a bad knee injury his senior year, in the 4th round, I could see McGahee's going to a team like the Patriots or the Cowboys in the 3rd or 4th round.  Those would seem to be good fits as both of those teams have a running back or two that could ease the transition, but are fairly clearly not really wanted anymore, read Emmitt and Antowain Smith and even Troy Hambrick, and the right people are in place on those teams to take such a risk, i.e. Kraft, Belichick, once a Parcells protege, Parcells and Jerry Jones, who is always willing to roll the dice.  McGahee is a perfect fit on these two teams, even more ideal if he joins either of them in the 4th round of the '03 draft.  Get this, if the Patriots do NOT get McGahee, look for them to somehow reacquire Robert Edwards from the Dolphins. [smiley=ohshit.gif] [smiley=yes.gif] Why?  It just makes sense. [smiley=zenmaster.gif]

So, do we REALLY believe that he is better???  Or do we REALLY believe that this is very conveinent to come out now so he gets drafted earlier.  Thus, MO' MONEY!!!

I don't see why he or his doctor would lie about his progress. I seriously doubt that an NFL team is going to take their word for it anyway. He will be inspected by potential teams doctors and they'll make the determination for themselves.

Parcells: "Hey Willis, how's the knee?"
McGahee: "Never been better."
Parcells: "That's all I need to hear. Sign him."

Well, the latest is that McGahee has been working his butt off, has made incredible strides in the seven weeks since his injury and has all but unequivocally declared that he will be able to play in '03.  His doctor, though, is not willing to make any such declaration or corroborate any such speculation, at least not yet.  Here is the source, John Clayton of ESPN:

Choc-a-bloc with good info!

Looky like the Bucs might have interest.  HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand", here is the report:

http://www.sptimes.com/2003/02/23/Bucs/McGahee_is_an_intrigu.shtml.

They claim that they are in a uniquely ideal position to be able to wait on him for a year if they have to.

Yep, I read about this, apparently Gruden isn't to happy about the play of Pittman and Alstott, and it looks more and more like they're not going to give a shot at Stecker.

Well, here's some real insider-type stuff ripped right off "the Gridiron Newsstand".  Willis McGahee here got some serious kudos from Steve Mariucci.  I don't know how they'd go about acquiring him, but I would love to see him playing in a maturing West Coast Offense two seasons from now. [smiley=yes.gif] [smiley=lickinmychops.gif] Without further ado, here is the report:

What do you all make of this?
