Title: Chicago Bears QB Hunt
Post by StegRock on Feb 23rd, 2003, 12:08am
The Chicago Tribune, accessible at "the Gridiron Newsstand" is reporting that, get this, Kurt Warner tops the Bears wanted list.  Makes one wonder if Martz's claim that Warner is the Rams man, which he made a point to re-assert again today as per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, also avaible at "the Gridiron Newsstand," wasn't a bit of a "reverse psychological" sales pitch. [smiley=hmmmm.gif] By the way, their second choice appears to be Jake Plummer.

What do you guys make of all this?

Well, Kordell and the Bears seem to be stuck, but the league has told free-agent-to-be QB Brian Griese that he is not permitted to meet with the Bears at this time.  Here is Kordell's "deal" as well as the convoluted deal with Griese HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand":

Griese cannot visit because he is not immediately and definitely available.  A trade needs to be DONE for him to make the trip, or they have to wait all the way 'til June 1st. [smiley=nono.gif]

I find the refusal to let the player visit a club interested in signing him baffling. I understand anti-tampering rules seing neccessary, but if the club has "officially" given the ok to seek a trade, then what tampering could there possibly be? And void of the tampering angle, what purpose does it serve?

Definately not without recedent though. Plenty of players in the last few years have been handled the same way. Still makes no sense.

Well, FourTwoOh, all, they have come to their senses... at least to a degree.  Griese will be permitted to visit Chicago next week and at least test the waters with his tippy toes.  Here is the LOWDOWN HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand" (it is the second small report down the page):
