We all knew it was going to happen. Let's see if the Pats, Texans, Panthers or Cowboys make a run for him...

Did they try to trade him at all? I don't understand why they wouldn't try to trade him! They would atleast get something in return than! ???

I doubt that they'd get much in return for him. He's aging and is injury-prone.

With the cut though, they saved $5.2 million for the cap.

Unfortunately for Davis dynasty/keeper owners, it looks like the Texans are currently the frontrunner for Davis's services.  The Texans have been in pretty serious discussions with Davis (and whoever his agent is/will be), and they definitely have the cap room to bring him in given their cuts of Jermaine Lewis and Tony Boselli massively restructuring his contract.

I think it is a bad move for both the Texans and Davis...the Texans' offensive line is horrific, and Davis is definitely a pound-it-between-the tackles rusher that benefits from a powerful offensive line.

Hopefully they spend their money on a top offensive lineman, although three have already signed for big bucks.

According to ESPN,  he is NOT heading to Dallas:

• 01MAR03 ESPN : The Cowboys can be removed from the list of teams who will be interested in signing former Redskins (RB) Stephen Davis as their new starter. Two sources in the Cowboys organization said earlier this week that, even with the temptation of spiriting away a former Redskins star as part of the evaluation mix, Coach Parcells really isn't as keen on Davis as many outsiders have suggested."(Parcells) isn't going to get into the emotional deal with (the Redskins)," said one source. "That doesn't mean anything to him. It might raise the ante with some people around here, but he certainly isn't one of them." Word is that Parcells, now freed from having to worry about the possibility of Emmitt Smith in training camp, is content to hand the job to loquacious 3 year veteran (RB) Troy Hambrick . He'll probably try to bolster the position with a modestly-priced veteran free agent and look to the draft for help as well.
