Title: Redskins Offseason Report
Post by StegRock on Mar 2nd, 2003, 10:56pm
Well, Snyderman and Coach Spurious are at it again, making weird decisions.  They just signed Rob Johnson.  I guess he'll compete with Patrick Ramsey for the starting gig... Week 1.  Beyond that, who knows?  Here is what ESPN reports:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1517046.html.

Any takes, my fellow Gridironers? [smiley=bow.gif] I am convinced that Snyderman and Coach Spurious are possessed by demons, myself.

Edited to adjust the Topic!

I've never seen a quarterback make his offensive line look so bad before in my life.  If they wanted an SC qb, they shoulda signed Peete.  He's got more upside at 50 than Johnson does right now.

I mean, with all the available QB's out there, they go and get this guy?  What, do they want to give Ramsey an example of what NOT to do?

I will have to disagree on this signing.  I think it makes sense.  It kills me the Redskins have made so many smart moves this offseason.  I think they all make sense.

First, Rob Johnson signed as the BACKUP quarterback.  He knows he is the #2.  Granted, with Spurrier as coach there does not seem to be much difference between #1 and #3.

Second, Johnson is a good back up quarterback.  He has been a professional back up his career (except 1 year).  His attitude as the back up has been good.

Third, he is not a bad quarterback.  He takes sacks, but he can throw the ball decent enough.

Fourth, the Redskins on paper have one of the best offensive lines in the league now.  Perfect for Johnson.

Fifth, he was a relative bargain.

Sixth, the real important Redskins signing on Sunday was John Hall.  He will finally give them some stability at the kicking position.

To put the Rob Johnson signing quite simply from the point of view of a Buccaneer fan.

Thank God we got rid of him, and who really cares? Rob Johnson will never be a star in the NFL, thus, NO interest in the fantasy aspect of the signing.

Well, the Redskins appear to be at it again on the free agent front.  They want to sign yet another free agent offensive player.  This sdesired sgning actually makes sense and is some one the Redskins should never let go of 3 years ago.  So who is it?  Drum Roll please...........

Larry Centers!!

Is there a better fullback designed for that offense?

Well, the decision on KR/RB Chad Morton has been made and is now official.  He is goin' from the Jets to the 'Skins.  Here is ALL the LATEST out of "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.redskins.com/story.asp?ContentID=11621;

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50032-2003Apr7.html;

http://www.syracuse.com/nfl/spnet.ssf?/default.asp?c=advance&page=nfl/news/ABN2531610.htm.

Bummer for the Jets!  Major victory for the Redskins!  He will definitely infuse their kick returns with some excitement and big-play potential!

Any thoughts on the decision, by the way?

Well, it's a done deal.  The news is currently topping "The REAL Feed":  DT Jermaine Haley goes from the [smiley=fish.gif] to the [smiley=redskin.gif]'s!  Here is the local corroboration from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

Any thoughts, perhaps from Bouve even though this is outside the Dolphins thread?

More news about NFL players being naughty.  This time it is about the Redskins newly-acquired DT Jermaine Haley.  Here is how it reads on "The REAL Feed":

"New Redskin Haley Arrested for DUI

Washington Redskins defensive tackle Jermaine Haley was arrested on Monday in the Miami area on a driving under the influence charge after refusing to take a breathalyzer test, Miami Beach police said."

Here is a corroborative local story from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

Any thoughts? :-/ [smiley=shrug.gif]

Another genious move by Snyder.  He appears to like the guys with drinking problems.

Haley will be suspended a few games and come back.  As an Eagles fan, I am pretty happy!

Let his old ass go. The skins are working on a major youth moment. Bid "Daddy" is past his primne, but still effective in a solid rotation.
I could see the Vikes, Car, Jax, Dallas, Hou, hell maybe even CHI signing him to name a few. He will get snagged by someone. I don't think he will be calimed off waivers due to his large cap hit though. ARIZ would be the smartest ones IMO. Their DEF sucks!!!!!

It's official:

SPURRIER IS AN IDIOT!!!

He went out and resigned Danny Woe-ful.  This is why Spurrier will never be an effective coach.  He keeps things personal and doesn't run it like a business.

Spurrier and his wife are close the the Woe-ful family.

And now, Rob Johnson may be moved back to #3 based on ONE bad weekend.

How about this interesting LOCAL report STRAIGHT off "the Gridiron Newsstand's REAL Feed"? ...

Trade of Backup Tailback Being Considered
Washington Post: Sports (28.08.2003 02:44)
Their search for defensive tackles is over, but the Washington Redskins still are likely to be involved in trade talks before Sunday's deadline for NFL teams to trim their rosters to 53 players. Redskins officials plan to consider offers for backup tailbacks Ladell Betts and Kenny Watson but have not received what they regard as a suitable proposal, sources said.
