Title: Broncos Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Mar 3rd, 2003, 2:23pm Well, all sources from "the Gridiron Newsstand" indicate that the Broncos have enough money in their piggy [smiley=pig.gif] bank [smiley=money.gif] to sign both of the free-agents they most covet, QB Jake Plummer and DT Daryl Gardener, and will be willing to break it in order to get them under contract and in the fold TODAY. Plummer has visits to Carolina and Chicago scheduled for later this week, but if you can read between the lines [smiley=nerd.gif] , that Idaho spud ain't goin' nowhere. [smiley=nono.gif] Without further ado, here is ALL the primary source material the avid fan needs regarding said sitch: http://www.dailycamera.com/bdc/broncos/article/0,1713,BDC_2453_1784224,00.html; http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/broncos/article/0,1299,DRMN_17_1783862,00.html; http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/broncos/article/0,1299,DRMN_17_1783912,00.html; http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E86%257E1216587%257E,00.html; http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E86%257E1210453,00.html. Title: Re: Early Offseason Denver Broncos Report Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Mar 3rd, 2003, 4:11pm For once, I am actually hoping that another team signs someone. I honestly feel Jake Plummer will be a huge stud next year if he signs with Denver... Oh the money I will be making next year from all the fantasy leagues I'll be winning next year with Plummer as my QB. |

Title: Re: Early Offseason Denver Broncos Report Post by StegRock on Mar 5th, 2003, 11:42pm What a day to be a Broncos, Jake Plummer and John Elway fan! Plummer agrees to terms with the Broncos on the very day Elway's march into the Hall of Fame officially begins as today he was named as only one of two first-ballot nominees in the first stage of 2004 selections (details on the following thread: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=58;action=display;num=1046895035). [smiley=smitten.gif] I have been a Broncos fan since 8th grade when I fell in love with that team in orange, my favorite color. Elway also "played" a big role. Loved his "never say never" style of play! I remember the game that started the love affair. It was the '84-'85 playoffs, a game against the Steelers (in Mile High, I think) that they ended up losing, but showed a ton of heart in the process, and that some skinny kid all the way back on the east coast in "Joyrzy" was watching on a black-and-white TV, which did not even allow me to appreciate those beautiful orange jerseys. Hell, this poor kid made his way all the way out to the University of Denver (a yuppy, rich-white-kid school, which I also adore, nevertheless) for college; yea, for some "academic" reasons, but MAINLY because of my Donkeys. I have also been enamored with Jake ever since I saw him playing for Arizona State in that Bowl game against Ohio State, again, even though they lost. ALWAYS have scoffed at the Joe Montana comparisons and, instead, insisted on my mini-Elway allusion. Thought they should have taken him back in the '97 draft. Oh well, he has finally arrived and I am happy as a [smiley=pig.gif] in swill. [smiley=smitten.gif] [smiley=coach.gif]"GO JOHN... GO JAKE... GO BRONCOS!"[smiley=havinablast.gif] I need Kleenex! :'( |

Title: Re: Early Offseason Denver Broncos Report Post by StegRock on Mar 6th, 2003, 2:12pm Well, the big boys on the block are chiming in... Take a look-see. The first two are good reads; the second one [smiley=pullleeeeeeeze.gif] : This first piece is a real nice, fair-minded read; Banks's double entendre with the term "second chance" is clever! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/don_banks/news/2003/03/05/shanahan_plummer/; [smiley=thumbsup.gif] This is a solid piece that recognizes the positivity that comes out of Jake's just changing scenery and is by a guy whose opinion I respect. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online/news/2003/03/04/nfl/; [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Herein, Pasquerelli sports his "skillz" in writing prose, but ultimately he is just bein' a hater. What a prick. I never liked this guy very much, but after reading this, I've lost all respect for him. Was it really necessary for him to refer to Elway's "blubbering" retirement? What purpose did it serve other then to disrespect one of the greatest QB's of all time. Damn, that pissed me off. |

Title: Re: Early Offseason Denver Broncos Report Post by StegRock on Mar 8th, 2003, 9:59am Here's some of the LATEST stuff making news, as per "the Gridiron Newsstand" and CNN/SI: Sharpe to return, team wants Beuerlein to come back! Here are the primary sources: (On Sharpe) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/news/2003/03/07/roundup_friday/; (On Sharpe) http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/broncos/article/0,1299,DRMN_17_1794381,00.html; (On Beuerlein) http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E86%257E1226807,00.html. Title: Re: Early Offseason Denver Broncos Report Post by Walker Boh on Mar 8th, 2003, 10:58am Looks like the Plummer signing is paying off already! [smiley=havinablast.gif] [smiley=dancin.gif] [smiley=cheers.gif] I'm stoked that Sharpe is coming back for another season. He's the greatest TE of time and showed us last year that he still has it. Remember that game against the Chiefs? [smiley=lickinmychops.gif] I would feel very confident with Beuerlein backing up Plummer. I hope they work it out.[smiley=yes.gif] So far it's been a great off-season for the Broncos and I really like the way the team seems to be coming together. Unlike last season when we were caught up in all that internal turmoil. Bring on the Raiders... I want to beat them in the worst way! |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by Walker Boh on Mar 27th, 2003, 8:32pm The potential is there for sure... He did a great job of getting open last season, but he dropped way too many. I believe this was one of my all-time favorite games as well. Merrill Hodge had probably his greatest game running behind an undersized o-line that trapped to perfection. Quote:
Another alltime favorite of mine (as a Buckeye fan). Very interesting to see these games from a different perspective. My take on Plummer is that he could become a great QB - but will always be over-rated as a FF QB. If I owned a real team, I would love having him for playoff games, fourth quarters, leadership, and any type of crunch-time. His value in FF will never relate to to his real world value, however. |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report: Sharpe to return! Post by StegRock on May 4th, 2003, 11:58pm Well, it is currently toward the top of "The REAL Feed"... TE Shannon Sharpe has decided to return for another year. Here is the local lowdown as per "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~86~1368380,00.html. This is great news for Jake Plummer (owners) and, of course, Broncomaniacs, in general! [smiley=broncofan.gif] |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report: Sharpe to return! Post by StegRock on May 5th, 2003, 7:01pm I think it is too early to really know. I think he'll be good... a nice late-round fantasy get. We have to see how well Jake does. I do think that, like many guys who have quarterbacked for the Broncos, Jake will lean on Shannon a lot, especially early on. So, given that fact, I think Sharpe has some "real upswing," especially in the early part of the season. But, if Jake is erratic/sucks, Shannon's value, like the value of all the receivers, will be limited. No special insight there! But, I like Jake; therefore, I would tend to like Sharpe, at least or especially early on. |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report: Sharpe to return! Post by Walker Boh on May 5th, 2003, 8:08pm Obviously, I think this is great news! [smiley=havinablast.gif] Sharpe is not only one of the greatest ever at his position, but he's also a key part to the Bronco's heart and soul, a lot like Easy Ed. I can't wait to get the season started! I would take Sharpe as my #1 TE without hesitation. This year I'm sure it will go Gonzo, Shockey, Heap and then Sharpe. I usually don't draft a TE until the middle rounds. I hope he's still there when my turn comes around! [smiley=broncofan.gif]Go Broncos! [smiley=broncofan.gif] |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by Walker Boh on Jun 1st, 2003, 8:25pm http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/6405094 Well, we knew it was coming, but it appears the end is very near for Griese and the Broncos. As I've stated before, I think this is in the best interest of both parties, but after reading this article I was a bit saddened. :'( It wasn't too long ago that I was the biggest Griese fan and now he's getting ready to leave having never crawled out of John Elway's shadow. [smiley=Elway.gif] Funny thing is, it looks like he's going to end up in Miami... and right back into the shadow's... only this time, it will be his fathers! If Griese ever gets the chance to start, he'll have to go through the same shit all over again! [smiley=doh.gif] |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Jun 7th, 2003, 4:02pm I thought this blurb from "The REAL Feed" was worth reporting on... Davis working out, but return uncertain NFL.com (07.06.2003 14:16) Terrell Davis has been working out to build up strength in his hobbled legs, but it's still too early to tell if Denver's former star running back can make a return to football. How many times have we heard this before? I love Terrell and I love how my (and WB's) Broncos are treating the man, but I just don't ever see Terrell's being even a shadow of what he once was. If he does make the squad, I just hope there is a niche that he can fill that will utilize what (little) he has left in the tank and also not make him look washed-up in the process! [smiley=nono.gif] Anyway, go Terrell! (Except I don't know exactly how I mean the word "go" there anymore, encouragingly or discouragingly!) :'( Are there any other thoughts on this "hack(ed-to-death)neyed" issue? [smiley=whatever.gif] |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Jul 22nd, 2003, 10:06pm The Donkeys lose DT Daryl Gardener for 8 weeks, i.e. until Week 3 of the season. Here is the headline currently topping "The REAL Feed": Broncos' Gardener likely to miss start of season! Here is LOCAL corroboration from "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~86~1526719,00.html. Any thoughts on what this means for the Broncos defense as a whole? They're really not draftable anyway, no? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next, here are two local pieces, one regarding Jake Plummer and his chances at success in Denver, and the other a general one about things to watch out for in Broncos' training camp this year. They are both REALLY FUN reads. The one about Plummer is a particularly neat read given its connection to message-board forums; the other one is written as a "Top 10" things to watch for, which is always a fun format: The article about Plummer - http://www.dailycamera.com/bdc/broncos/article/0,1713,BDC_2453_2122947,00.html; The "Top 10" list - http://www.dailycamera.com/bdc/broncos/article/0,1713,BDC_2453_2122943,00.html. Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Jul 24th, 2003, 9:30pm Well, it's the news currently atop "The REAL Feed"... It's a sad day in Denver, but a day all of us Broncomaniacs had to know was inevitable... RB Terrell Davis has been released. :( Here is the initial report coming out of the Denver Post available on "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~86~1531235,00.html. [smiley=bawling.gif] On "The REAL Feed" it actually says: Broncos waive Davis but hope he can get healthy! Here is that article: http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2003/0724/1585261.html. That second piece actually intimates that there is a chance that Davis could possibly "come back" to/with the Broncos! Does anybody out there really think he might resurface again someday? I, for one, must regretfully admit I do not! [smiley=no.gif] |
||||
|
Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by Philly on Jul 25th, 2003, 9:15am I really wish Davis would just realize that he is done. The Broncos did more than they had to as a franchise... the waiving was necessary. I imagine the rest of the teams also realize that he has nothing left. If Jamal Anderson, who probably has a better shot at a comeback, can't find a job, then TD is outta luck too. |

Title: Re: Broncos Offseason Report Post by StegRock on Jul 26th, 2003, 7:01pm Well, newly-acquired S Lee Flowers's debut with the Broncos has been dampened... and pushed back 4 games because of a suspension by the league for steroid use. It's all over "The REAL Feed" and here are the official statements that have been made as per a source on "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.denverbroncos.com/pressbox/index.php3?clmn=/pressbox/2003/072603-01.prm&go=showreleases2. The Broncos claim they knew this was coming before signing him. To me, this is just more complicating news regarding an already enigmatic Broncos D... that you probably would not find me drafting on draft day despite the fact that I am a DIE-HARD [smiley=broncofan.gif] . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In other news, though RB's Portis and Anderson are fine, the Broncos stable of tailbacks has gotten a little thinner due to the loss of rookie RB Quentin Griffin. He will be out for 6 to 8 weeks with a broken fibula. Here is ALL the news from the first "whacky" day of Broncos training camp, during which "the bubble burst", as per a LOCAL source on "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~86~1534300,00.html. Can anybody else hear Jamal Anderson's phone ringing while Mikey Shanahan eagerly awaits on the other side, phone firmly pressed to ear? [smiley=whatever.gif] |
