Title: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by StegRock on Mar 14th, 2003, 12:40pm This little guy even better expresses my feelings: [smiley=jawdroppin.gif] Can't believe this is coming to pass! Junior Seau IS the Bolts! But, they are lettin' him go. [smiley=nono.gif] Here is the word HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand" and out of ESPN: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20030314-9999_1s14chargers.html; http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2003/0314/1523445.html. Any thoughts/lamentations, my fellow "Gridiron Greats"? I, for one, hope he goes to Denver! ;) |

Title: Re: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by FourTwoOh on Mar 14th, 2003, 12:46pm Truely surprising! AFC West 2003 is shaping up to be ALL abut the offense. Hmm, wonder how that will affect fantasy footballers. [smiley=checkin.gif] |

Title: Re: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by DOLFAN on Mar 14th, 2003, 2:21pm Too bad for JR. He will prolly stay on the west coast and he wants a SB ring. Can you say OAK or San Fran?? |

Title: Re: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by BarnabyWilde on Mar 14th, 2003, 2:53pm I think Junior has maybe a year or two of good football left in the tank. I can see Oakland grabbong him too, something about Al Davis and taking older players from division or Bay Area rivals... |

Title: Re: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Mar 14th, 2003, 4:07pm Rodney Harrison and now Junior Seau... they've got the talent, and they're just making room for the young. I would have loved to seen Seau AND Harrison retire with the Chargers, but they're looking to get their youngsters starting, and they got quite a few good ones. Sad to see Seau good, and no matter where he does go, he will STILL be a Pro Bowl type player. |

Title: Re: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by Walker Boh on Mar 15th, 2003, 9:56am This is shocking. :o I lived in San Diego, and let me tell ya, they LOVE Junior Seau down there. He's the pride and joy of the Charger fans and I'm sure there will be a HUGE backlash from the community if they let him go. There's no doubt that he's no longer the player he once was, but there are certain guys that deserve unconditional respect from their franchise, and Seau is one of them. Being a Denver fan, I never liked him... I feared him. I'll never forget the play he made against my Broncos the year the Bolts went to the Superbowl... Elway and the Broncos were driving down the field getting ready to make one of their patented 4th quarter comebacks and Seau made a great play on the sidelines intercepting Elway, icing the game. >:( I know there was talk last year about the Chargers leaving San Diego, looking for a new stadium and more lucrative environment. If that's still the case, this move would certainly facilitate bad vibes amongst the community and make it easier for the team to leave. |

I think this sums up the whole situation. Seau is not even close to the player he used to be - he's frequently injured and hasn't led the Chargers in tackles in several years (I think I read 1999). He's been getting by on reputation for the last several years. The defense collapsed last year and probably kept them from the playoffs. If Shottenheimer wants to get the Chargers over the 8-8 mark, he's got to start rebuilding sometime. Junior is beloved in SD - does that mean Marty and the Spanos family must wait for him to retire? Tough call. I can only say this. My favorite team (GBP) is in desperate need of a MLB - I hope they don't go after JS! |

Title: Re: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by StegRock on Mar 15th, 2003, 2:42pm Well, Sean Salisbury of ESPN thinks that San Diego is making a big mistake. Whether you agree with his assessment or not, he does have a point, a point worth apprising yourself of. By the way, he does mention Denver [smiley=havinablast.gif] (and Oakland [smiley=Uwent2far.gif] ) as possible suitors of Seau. Here is a link to the piece: http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/salisbury_sean/1523721.html. |

Title: Re: "Seaout" of San Diego Post by StegRock on Mar 18th, 2003, 4:18pm Looks like Seau is being "Griesed", so to speak. Here is the LATEST out of "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20030318-9999_1s18chargers.html. Probably ain't goin' nowhere until June 1st. |
