Was thinking about this [smiley=thinking.gif] , especially in light of all the Priest [smiley=priest.gif] Holmes concerns and subsequent discussions... Here is how I feel about some of the RB's perceived [smiley=threed.gif] to be in the top tier going into this upcoming season...

Ricky Williams, LaDainian Tomlinson and Clinton Portis will be studs, so will Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry. Deuce McCallister should be, but something makes me nervous [smiley=nervous.gif] about him! [smiley=shrug.gif] Shaun Alexander will be fine, up-and-down, but a solid #2.

Priest Holmes is disappointing... now... He won't come Week 1! Don't mistake "now" for "then" and go and trade him in a keeper league or let him fall too far in any early drafts you are in. To me, the guy that going into the season has/will have the most ?'s is none other than Marshall Faulk! Now there is a player that I would downgrade significantly, at least relatively speaking I would guess.

Stephen Davis will rebound nicely, but modestly, as will Edgerrin James, but he will do so less modestly. ;) Trung Canidate will not be as good as people think; Troy Hambrick will be better than people think, but don't get ridiculous with your expectations. Correll Buckhalter will emerge in Philly and be a pleasant surprise; Garrison Hearst will emerge somewhere and have a decent season; Stacey Mack will merge with the rest of the backs in Houston and suck. Michael Bennett will continue to be Robert Smithish. Fred Taylor, Emmitt Smith, Charlie Garner and Anthony Thomas, each for very different reasons, are and will continue to be gambles, and the likes of James Stewart, Duce Staley and Antowain Smith will be humungous gambles, probably not worth taking. Eddie George will continue to steadily decline and will have numbers similar to last year's, but a little lower, i.e. serviceable :-/ ; Curtis Martin, on the other hand, will have a solid comeback season and finish in the Top-12.

Now, here are my Top-5 who will disappoint:
1) Ahman Green
2) Ahman Green
3) Ahman Green
4) William Green
5) William Green

If you have a back named "Green" this upcoming year, expect to be "'it' with envy" [smiley=bawling.gif] of the guys in your league who don't and lose a lot of "it" [smiley=money.gif] to the guys in your league who don't. ;)

And, if you look at the "Rosters" page on the GBRFL web site, you will see that my takes here are not at all particularly biased.

Here is some of my thoughts on the RB class of 03.
R.Williams-Stud! That though Miami D will keep them and every game, and Norv will feed Ricky all year long.
LT-Should be just as productive as last year. Suspeect Chargers D worry's me, but Marty loves to run the ball.
Deuce-In his second year as a full time starter, he will emerge as one of the top fantasy backs in the league. Nobody has the size and speed combination that this guy does.
Portis-Denver has had stud fantasy backs for years, and this guy is the fastest one yet. His size is a little bit of a concern to me, but expect another monster year from him.
J.Lewis-This guy really bounced back last year. The Ravens D will be strong again this year, and with inexperience at the QB postion, Billick will pound Lewis all year long. Everybody knows the second year after an ACL injury is one when the back returns to full strength. Lewis will post huge numbers this year
Those guy's are my top 5 backs going into next year.

I am of the total opposite opinion. A.Green will have a very productive season this year. I think W.Green is going to be a total bust this year. I would not even rate him anything higher than a third back!

Well BAH, because he's my #1 back in one league. Haha, I got him with the 21st pick though, so it was a steal. Ahman will be a decent receiver but Favre is too old and DRIVER will be a huge bust; Ahman will have no compliment pass game to help out his numbers. On the other hand, I think Willie will have a NICE pass game in Cleveland with Holcombe ending up starter and surprising everyone. Hopefully he plays like he did in the playoffs EVERY game next year, so I can take him in the later rounds as a sleeper. Him and Hasselback, baby. Haha.

BW, Tiki was actually left out of my write-up on purpose. Reason being, he mystifies me year-in-and-year-out! I don't know what to think about him, frankly speaking! A lot of my take here is based on gut and experience, and I like Tiki... BUT I am not at all sure how much! He reminds me of Dalton Hilliard of the Saints back in the day and how he totally unexpectedly ended up on the scrap heap. He could be anywhere from top first tier to top third tier, and, though I harp on the fact that injuries cannot be predicted, I think, given his running style, he just might be due for a significant injury. [smiley=shrug.gif] So, there is my take on Tiki! ;D
