Title: TRADE HELP
Post by DOLPHINDAN1 on Jun 11th, 2003, 10:41am
HI ALL......Looking for some advice on a trade. I am in a 12 team 5 keeper league. We start 1 QB, 2 0r 3 RB's and 2 or 3 Wr's. TE, K, Def. Performance based scoring. MY 5 I am keeping are Tomlinson, Dillion, Holmes, Chad Johnson, Todd Heap. I am considering trading Holmes for Vick. Would anyone do this?...Or should I take my chance with Holmes and draft a average QB like Hasslebeck, Carr, Harrington.....I always finish top seed in the league but lose the game before the Superbowl. I always blame it on never having a quality Qb....of course losing Holmes last year did not help......thanks for any help.... 8)

Right now, I'd have to make that deal.  The key factor is Holmes's health and that you have 2 quality RBs already.  Because of the flex option, the third RB is not a liability, but still nice to have quality QB.

I feel your pain.  I lost the Championship last year with an injured Priest Holmes sitting on my bench.

I always think a quality RB (especially a #1 overall like Holmes was) is much more important than a quality QB.  That being said, LT2 should be tops in the league this coming year and Dillon will be a solid #2 on your team.  If you get decent points for QB rushing and QB rushing TDs, then you HAVE to make the trade.

Even after you get hold of Vick, draft Hasselback anyway and you'll have an incredible backup should Vick get hurt.  Hasselback is definitely not an average QB.  With Alexander running the ball and quality receivers like K-Rob and D-Jack, he's a top 10 QB this coming year.

I would make the trade as well. Vick is too good an option at QB due to his rushing ability.

I am usually a pretty long-winded guy, as you will come to know!  But, this one is E---z!  Given the makeup of your team, you gotta' cut that deal!  It just balances your team out nicer.  You might even be able to get the guy trading you Vick to sprinkle something back, perhaps a receiver that you might consider keeping over Heap, or maybe you could sprinkle something back to get a receiver included.  Point being, you really could use an upgrade at WR.  Anyway, I would do the deal in a heartbeat as you present it!  Good luck!

I think everyone above me made it clear... it's unanimous, do the trade.

Well thanks for the advice so far. Does anyone think I should keep Coles over Johson or Heap. I do have a first round pick in the draft number 10 pick. I was gonna use for a QB or Receiver. I thought keeping Johnson was a good move considering the future he has and the future of the Redskins QB situation. I dont dare keep the Eagles Defense do I???

I would keep Stallworth over Heap.  He had a great rookie season with a lot of touchdowmns.  In addition, he is in a silly offensive system where he will take over Joe Horn in a few years.  I think Stallworth has way more upside than Heap currently delivers.....  You should be able to draft Heap.(and stallworth for that matter in the mid rounds.)

I would keep Chad Johnson.  He looks to have a bright future.  I would then keep Laveranues Coles over Todd Heap.  With regards to Double D's post, Donte Stallworth is a somewhat close second, but Coles, despite his being on a new team, is just more proven AND fits that Spurrier offense to a tee.

I like Coles best of that whole group.  Chad is a nice receiver, but not sure if he warrants all the FF props he is getting this preseason.  Actually, at this point in time I am about even between Stallworth, Heap, and Johnson.

In my experience with fantasy football, I've learned that RB's are the most important aspects to your team. You've got arguably the top 2 RB's in LT and Holmes, with Dillon being the best 3rd RB option that I've ever seen! If healthy, those 3 could carry your team to glory regardless of who's playing QB. You can argue that Holmes is injured, while Vick is quickly becoming one of the better fantasy QB's, making it a "safe" move, but if Holmes comes back 100%, you may regret this trade. Vick's style of play can generate big points, but it also leaves him very vulnerable to big hits and injuries... Would you even consider this move if Holmes was 100%? He might be... then again, he might not. Good luck.

I'm getting less and less sold on Holmes every day.  Come August I don't think I'll touch him.  Do the deal, especially in a keeper league.

Holmes is just about as old as faulk, and has Larry Johnson backing him up.  Vick's young and I think will be the premier QB in the league for the next couple years if he can stay healthy.  I would do this trade in a heartbeat, especially with Dillon right there.

However, see if you can upgrade the WR or trade Heap for a solid WR in the process, because obviously this guy isn't worried about Holmes.  You can always play TE FA matchup during the year since you only start one.  I think Heap is overvalued so you could get a good WR+Vick for Him+Holmes.

Here's the thing with Vick.  His rushing numbers last year were pretty similar to those of a Stephen Davis or Emmitt Smith - a solid #3 RB.  Plus you get the advantage of his passing.  Sure, last year he was a mediocre passing threat (love those low INT #s though) but this year he'll have a faster WR core (added Peerless and MarTay Jenkins) which will spread the field and allow him to be even more effective... and a more experienced TE now that Alge Crumpler has another year under his belt.

I like Vick as a #1 QB AND a #3 RB.  So, in essence, you're getting 2 players in one roster spot.

Even if Holmes is healthy, he's not happy with his contract sitch.
