Title: WR Rating.. who do you rate ?
Post by mattman on Jul 9th, 2003, 8:29am
Keeper league where we have roster of 18, we keep 9 and cut 9. our cut has
be done by end of July and I am in a bit of a quandry as to who to cut
and who to keep with the WR's

Scoring in this league is only by TD's only.

I have 6 WR's I have space for only 4, but which 4 should I keep...

David Boston SDG
Derrick Mason TEN
Koren Robinson SEA
Peerless Price ATL
Plaxico Burress PIT
Rod Smith DEN

Personally at the moment I am leaning towards the following :

Rod Smith : Could have great year with plummer throwing
Plaxico Burress : He tends to score with Maddox at the helm
Peerless Price : Clear No. 1 in Atlanta and Vick's forecast to throw more.
David Boston : Now healthy and in SDG replacing Curtis Conway...
Koren Robinson : Had somewhat of a breakout last season but the QB situation
in Seattle in my opinion is a little shaky
Derrick Mason : Well dosen't tend to score that many TD's, but is clear no.1

I am leaning towards keeping, Smith, Burress, Price & Boston... but I'm still unsure  :-/

I'd think about dropping Rod Smith first.  He is getting old and his production is falling.  Ashley Lelie is waiting in the wings and should get more looks this year.  You said you were concerned about the QB sitch in Seattle, but not Denver?  Jake is an unknown at this point while Hasselbeck established a real nice stretch of games last year.

Dropping a second WR is a bit more difficult.  Of the group you have, I think Robinson, Burress, and Price are definite keepers.  So that brings it down to Boston and Mason.  Boston can do amazing things when healthy and not in trouble - and that was with a weak Arizona team.  Now that he is on a team with a top RB, great FB, rising QB, solid TE, he may be able to return to his former glory.  Derrick Mason struggled to score 5 TDs last year.  That's not many if your scoring is TDs only.  He has never started 16 games in a season either.  I think Mason is a bit more expendable than Boston right now.

It seems like I am always agreeing with my division rival Philly, but I too would drop Smith and Mason.

K-Rob will be a star this year, so you really should keep him!

I have to agree here also.  Mason isn't quite as good as the others, and Smith is older than the others.

I'm going against the majority here. I would go with Boston, Mason, Price, and Robinson. Nothing against Burress, I had both him and Ward last year and loved him, but I just think Maddox will have a down year and consequently, so will Burress. And like the rest of you said, Smith's too old. I guess I just like a #1 whose sure to get his catches (Boston, Mason, Price) over someone like Burress (who has a very fine receiver in Ward also). Robinson's in the same situation but I think he'll have a better year simply because I think Hasselback will have a better season than Maddox will. Look out for DJax too-- he'll have a great year. Good luck.

I am not that big a fan of Koren Robinson.  With Matt Hasselbeck throwing to him, and Darrell Jackson as good as Robinson, you just don't know what is going to happen in Seattle.

I would keep Mason since he is the CLEAR #1 and will see a ton of looks from McNair.

Rod Smith is Old.....wouldn't waste a keeper spot on him.  Not saying he won;t have a good year, but gotta look what the others will bring this year AND in the future.

IMO, keep....

Mason, Burress, Price, Boston

To build for the future, I would keep definitely keep Boston, Price and Burress... then flip a coin between Smith and Mason. For some strange reason I'm leaning towards Smith? [smiley=uh.gif]  ;D

I would go with Burress, Boston, Mason and Robinson (and this is coming from a die-hard Broncos fan who loves Hot Rod)!  My rationalizations are similar to the ones above, just switch around the names where need be! ;)

Some good replies.... and comments...

Have to say that Boston, Price and Robinson and lock ins for me at the moment

Which leaves me with Burress, Smith and Mason.

Burress has a lot up upside  and is actually top of the three at the moment
Mason is a close second as he will get a lot of looks from McNair
Smith, I think this is the year I release Smith, I've  had Rod sine 1996.. and it
hurts to let him go as he has been so productive for me over the years,  but
I really gotta think about some new blood coming through.

So it's down to Burress Vs Mason.... and I  am leaning towards holding onto
Burress....

In that case, mattman, you gotta' go with Burress over Mason!  It's not even close, actually!

I would cut loose Smith and Mason, I think the change of scenery plus a disciplinarian style coach will bring out the best in Boston and Buress is magic with Maddox!!!

Good Luck

Grading on TD's only........Factor in youth,talent,and opportunity.........hmmmmmmmm...hmmmmmm

Boston, Burress, Price, and Robinson.

Without a Doubt!

Mason and Smith are good receivers , but in a keeper I would go with the 4 I mentioned!

On the Mason Vs Burress ?

Burress is your answer here! [smiley=pimpin.gif]

Burress and Boston:  two I drafted...and cut!  Now you have them both, Matt!

I can't believe you were thinking of cutting Robinson.  I think Hasselbeck is finally out from Favre's shadow, so Robbo could be lookin' at a big year.

regards
