On the positive side it was his left wrist; so he may be able return as soon as he is comfortable taking the snap and handing off.  My non-medical, SWAG would be that he will be out until after his bye week in week 5.

From the NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/2637.htm):

Quote:
August 24, 2003 -- The Jets' 2003 season of promise took a horrific turn last night when Chad Pennington suffered a fractured dislocation of his left wrist in the second quarter of last night's 15-14 win over the Giants at Giants Stadium. It is believed he will be lost for the season.
Pennington was rushed to Lennox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, where he was operated on last night by Jets' orthopedist Dr. Ken Montgomery.

The Post has learned that the injury could possibly keep the Jets' franchise quarterback sidelined for the entire season.

According to a source who requested anonymity, Herman Edwards told a high-ranking member of the Giants' organization on the way off the field at halftime that he fears Pennington's out for the year.

That fear would make quite a bit of sense based on the intensely close-to-the-vest way in which the Pennington affair was handled by the entire organization after the injury occurred with 1:47 remaining in the half.

Edwards was as visibly upset as he's been since he became the Jets head coach, refusing to elaborate in any manner about the possible prognosis and placing a strict gag order on everyone in the organization on the subject of Pennington.

Shame this, I reckoned Chad was going to have a really good year this year... :(

Just saw the jets re-signed Todd Husak as a backup for Vinny.

Good move considering Vinny could go down very easily...

Also Jacksonville seemingly phoned the Jets on monday and asked were
they interested in taking Mark Brunell....

Poor Brunell, must feel like a real plum at this stage, with the Jags trying to
off load him at every chance, they've already spoken with Dallas and Baltimore
on the same subject.... and yet he's the #1 QB, Leftwich is just too fresh to
gain a start....

isn't he ?

Looks like Chad may just make it back to help the Jets salvage the season.  Here's the read on "The REAL Feed":

Pennington active as third QB on Sunday
The Sports Network: NFL (15.10.2003 13:52)

Here's what I uncovered in the way of local talk from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.app.com/nfl/jets/story/0,21403,831167,00.html;

http://www.ctnow.com/sports/football/jets/ny-jnotes143494959oct14,1,3036593.story?coll=ny-jets-print.

The rest of the articles I found were basically just retreads of the AP report.

Well, there's a real "jetstream" of news coming out right now on the Jets...

Near the top of "The REAL Feed" is this about Chrebet:

Jets WR Chrebet out with back injury
NFL.com (17.10.2003 21:04)
Jets receiver Wayne Chrebet will not play against the Houston Texans because of a sore back.

Bump up Moss, boyz,... and Conway for that matter, especially given these recent reports coming out of "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/story/127546p-114111c.html;

http://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/41432.htm.

And, the news on "the Newsstand" about Pennington is getting hot.  These reports contend that he could be back as early as NEXT WEEK:

Nothing regarding Pennington in the local dailies beyond the AP report yet.  Here is how it reads on "The REAL Feed"...

Jets' Pennington to play but not start vs. Eagles
NFL.com (20.10.2003 15:14)
Chad Pennington will make his return to the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 27, although not as the starter.

Can someone close up in NY area confirm that Pennington will start NEXT week?  Is this definitely Testaverde's last start?   I know Pennington is supposed to get action this week.  Is he just 'testing' himself and arm or he is already to go?

I've heard that Vinnie will start, but we can expect to see Pennington in the first half.  Herm may be trying to confuse an opposing D by playing it close to the chest, but he's getting heat for not starting Chad from the local fans.

What I think is that he's waiting to see how Chad does when he comes back, how fast he's back in the game.

Meanwhile, I grabbed Pennington for my bench weeks ago, and I grabbed Santana Moss in two leagues where people had given up on him.

I think I wouldn't get crazy about Jets QBs until next week, when we see how Chad plays.  But I'm holding on to him.  He'll probably go crazy as soon as he can, and we keep hearing that Vinnie is a great QB coach.  Like Frerotte in the tundra.  I respect those guys.  And Vinnie will help Chad, as usual.  Next week, Pennington.
