Title: New York Giants Week 1 Analysis Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 31st, 2003, 2:02am Week 1: Rams vs the Giants, in the Meadowlands. Last year: Giants: Offense was ranked 6th overall Last year: Rams: Defense was ranked 13th overall The Giants open up this season with the bitter taste of the playoff loss to San Francisco still in their mouths. A good showing in their home opener will help erase some of that. The first string offense looked like it didn't miss a beat, and the addition of a healthy Ike Hilliard only makes them more dangerous. Unfortunately, the Rams offense looks like it is back in it's Superbowl form as well, with Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk looking real sharp. I expect a shootout in the Meadowlands. Quarterback: Kerry Collins led the NFC in passing yardage last year, and adding Hilliard to his already potent arsenal will create a lot of problems for opposing teams defenses. Ike should see alot of single coverage from teams #2 corner, giving Collins a nice deep threat this year. I see Kerry throwing early and often in this game. Collins: 325 yards passing, 3 td's, 2 picks Runingback: Tiki Barber showed many doubters that he could handle the brunt of an entire season as a featured back on his shoulders. This year, Dorsey Levens was brought in to help take the load off a bit, since Ron Dayne is pretty much useless. Fassel, if you're reading this, please trade him...anyway, Levens may take some goaline carries away, but I wouldn't worry to much. Tiki will be fine. Throw Delvin Joyce in there now as he has won the #2 spot behind Barber. Barber: 85 yards rushing 1 td, 45 yards receiving Joyce:35 yards rushing, 25 yards receiving Levens: A few goal line carries if the Giants get inside the 5 Wide Receivers/Tight Ends It may be hard this year to predict which Giants receiver will break out on a week to week basis. The Giants have three legitimate potential 1,000 yard receivers: Toomer, Hilliard and Shockey, in that order. If all three stay healthy, I think Amani and Ike can, and Jeremy could come close. And let's not forget about Shiancoe! ;) Receivers: Toomer: 115 yards, 1 td Hilliard: 130 yards, 1 td Carter: 20 yards Shockey: 75 yards, 1 td Shiancoe: 15 yards Kicking: Matt Bryant wins the job due to the injury to Mike Hollis. XP: 4/4 FG: 2/3 Defense: Against the Rams high powered offense, I'd sit the Giants D. Final score: Giants 34, Rams 31 |

Title: Re: New York Giants Week 1 Analysis Post by Philly on Sep 3rd, 2003, 10:04pm Good commentary, although I think that the Rams may pull this one off... Does the fact that Delvin Joyce was named #2 RB change things for Levens, or will Levens still get some carries? |

Title: Re: New York Giants Week 1 Analysis Post by BarnabyWilde on Sep 4th, 2003, 12:02am Yes, Philly, Joyce has thrown a monkey wrench into my analysis. That's been fixed. ;) This is going to be a great game. I would not be surprised if the Rams win, but I have to go with my boys here... |

Title: Re: New York Giants Week 1 Analysis Post by Noey21 on Sep 4th, 2003, 12:05am Very nice analysis! However, I think you heart may be winning over your brains on this one. I hope you are right. Especially about Toomer. I would do an analysis on the Dolphins game this week but that would just be a waste of time ( hope!). :-X |
