Title: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by ColaSteeler on Sep 19th, 2003, 11:32am Just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys think my next moves should be: Background: We start 1QB 2RB 3WR 1RB/WR 1TE 1K 1d/ST. We have 2QBs 10RB/WR (max 5RB) 2TE 2K 2D/ST on our rosters. Scoring is 1 point per catch, 1 point per 10 yards rushed/received or 15 yards passed, all TDs = 6 points + bonus if over 20 yds, +3 bonus at 100 yards rushed/received, or 300 yards passed. Defense/ST scoring is a mix of points for turnovers, TDs, yardage given up by Def, and points given up by Defense. My team is: Brady Warner Portis J. Lewis M. Williams Hambrick Buckhalter Burress C. Johnson Mason Schroeder Patten B. Miller K. Brady Akers J. Brown NE D/ST STL D/ST Due to going 2-0, and scoring the 2nd most points so far, I've missed out on all the best free agents so far. Here are my options: Warner - I'd like to hang onto him until the week after STL bye. If Bulger continues to play well and start, I'll drop Warner then. Best available right now are Fiedler, Kitna, Blake, Holcomb, Q. Carter. They should all be available at any time. The only person I can see picking one up is the guy with Plummer as his backup. Buckhalter - He might be used more after the bye. Philly needs to run the ball more, and he hasn't been given the chance yet. Best available right now is Bryson. Everyone else is gone, other than backups. Mike Anderson is also available. I could get him for a replacement if Portis goes down. Schroeder/Patten - both can have big games, or do nothing at all. I was hoping one would show a little consistency, but nothing yet. At this point, Patten has done nothing at all, while Schroeder has been ok. Best available here are E. Parker, Jurevicious (hurt), Branch, Ferguson, McCardell, Glenn, S. Smith, Chrebet, Travis Taylor, Calico, D. Bates, Bryant Johnson and Freeman. B. Miller/K. Brady - Brady put up nice numbers for a TE last week, Miller has done nothing, but did well last year. Best available are Fauria, Kleinsasser, Schobel, D. Clark, J. Norman, Conwell, Kinney,Riemersma, M. Campbell. DEF/ST - I liked NE this year, and I picked up STL to cover for the bye week(vs Bal). There are a couple of high-scoring defenses still available, such as Seattle (#1 so far), Indy (#6 so far), Denver (#8 so far). NE is #4, and STL is #25. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by Razzak on Sep 19th, 2003, 4:10pm I'm not sure what you expect out of Warner even if he does come back. Your team looks ok, but these are the problems I see: Both your QB's deals with the devil are over. Moe Williams becomes worthless in a few more weeks.. either to O Smith or M Bennett. Luckily, you've still got Hambrick. The WR's look very weak after the top 3. Here's what I would consider doing. First, let loose Patten or Schroeder and grab Ferguson. Second, see what the market holds for Warner. If nothing, check the FA pool for another QB. Quincy, Kitna, Carr and Harrington might all be available, and we all might have underestimated them this year. Well, maybe not Kitna. Third, I would take a gamble against Moe. See if you can grab Ladell Betts for Moe Williams. Considering all my suggestions are for your backups or fringe players, that means I like your team. At 2-0, your season is lookin good. I know you said you wanted to hold onto Warner, but my advice is to cut him loose. He hasn't looked good in 1.5 years now and he's in my "done" category along with eddie george. |

are you saying those 3 TDs vs. Philly last week was a fluke by Brady? |

Just as much of a fluke as his week 1 performance of 4INT, 0TD, 123 Yards. Even with those 3 TD's there's still 23 QB's outscoring him. The stats up to this point don't prove anything. I just think he's a little overrated and the rest of the team is crumbling around him. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by Razzak on Sep 28th, 2003, 2:30pm bump bump. he's already got 2 INT's in this week's games. Even if he comes back and puts up decent numbers this week, I hope you took some thought to getting another QB back when this thread was started. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by Philly on Sep 28th, 2003, 10:34pm I think Warner is wasting roster space. Grab Quincy Carter now. I also believe that Moe Williams will continue to be a good RB for you with Portis hurting or even as a flex player when Portis is healthy. Don't be too quick to give up on him. Hambrick and Buckhalter should be very solid as emergency RBs for you. Schroeder and Patten are not worth roster spots. Go with some younger talent. Parker and Bryant Johnson might not be bad choices. For defense... dump the Patriots and the Rams right now and grab Seattle and Indianapolis. They're both very good, aggressive defenses who should continue to perform well all season. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by Noey21 on Sep 29th, 2003, 11:27am I agree with Philly almost 100%. It almost read as if I were writing as I went. (if that makes any sense at all.) Well anyway. I second all philly wrote. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by Razzak on Sep 29th, 2003, 5:32pm Well well. There was a post after mine that was deleted, so I won't respond to that one but the comments after it. yeah, he had a couple TD's vs. a "soft" defense. He's still 20th overall out of quarterbacks, gettin whooped on by the following schmo's: Drew Brees Jeff Blake David Carr John Kitna Gus Frerrotte (in points per week) Quincy Carter (if you consider the bye week) if 20th is what you are hoping for out of your #1 QB, then yeah he's a super-stud. If Bulger had played every week and some other players hadn't had byes, he'd be even lower. I'm not lying, and neither are the numbers. "Brady is a Stud" = Myth. 2TD's and 3INT's isn't a great game in any scoring format that penalizes for INT's. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Sep 29th, 2003, 6:52pm According to my league's scoring, he's the 17th ranked QB. Ahead of "studs" Jeff Garcia, Trent Green, Brett Favre(game tonight), Aaron Brooks, and Donovan McNabb(whom I traded,Brady for, among others) That one game vs. Buffallo killed his statistics. Though, to state from just 4 weeks that he is "not a stud" is just ridiculous. Do you honestly think Garcia, McNabb, Brooks and even Favre for that matter will continue their poor performances? I think that's unlikely. Now with the emergence of David Givens at WR, who during yesterday's game made some amazing grabs, he has another viable option at WR. He seems to be getting better and better each year. 235 y/pg 29 TDs 14 INTs in 2002 was enough to put him in the top 10 of QBs. A vast improvement over the year before when they won the Superbowl. Tom Brady is good, let's face it. Why do you think Bledsoe's gone? |

You're making it seem as if I mean that Brady is ranked "statistically good." No, that is not my point AT ALL. I'm saying it's only been 4 weeks. Brady will come along during the weeks to come. As well as those other QBs mentioned. That my friend is my point. That you shouldn't judge his "stud" status for four games. When that one game vs. Buffallo is what killed his stats. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by StegRock on Sep 30th, 2003, 11:32pm I would hold pat at QB and RB. At WR, I would rather have Keenan McCardell, Terry Glenn, Steve Smith, Travis Taylor and Bryant Johnson over Bill Schroeder or David Patten. At TE, I would drop Billy Miller and get Dallas Clark... LIKE NOW! As for defense, I would get rid of St. Louis for Seattle, Indy or Denver in that order. Actually, I would then also consider dropping New England as well for Indy. Hope I've helped. Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by ColaSteeler on Oct 1st, 2003, 12:33am Wow.....thanks for all the resonses. So far I've made the following moves: 1. Dropped Patten and picked up Bryant Johnson. I tried to get Chrebet as well, but someone with lower priority than me picked him up instead. 2. Dropped B. Miller and got Conwell. Conwell did great in my league this past weekend for me. 3. Dropped STL D and got Denver for the matchup with Detroit. That did not turn out so well, but they gave me enough to win. Right now I'll ride Brady as long as I can. Kitna is the highest scoring FA, but Frerotte might be a good option for this week if Culpepper doesn't start. I can always get Warner back later. At $2/transaction though, I'll wait until the last moment to get Gus if he starts. At WR, the only reason I still have Schroeder is that I am not sure who to pick up. Morgan got dropped, so I could pick him up, and others still available are Morton, McCardell, Pinkston, T. Taylor, S. Smith, and the Tennessee duo of Bennett and McCareins. If I didn't have Mason, I would pick one of those 2 up. Right now, Morgan or Pinkston look interesting. At TE, I'll probably dump K. Brady for Dallas Clark. Which brings me to D/ST. I am seriously thinking of dumping both Denver and NE for Seattle and Indy. I can ride their schedules until week 13, and if I make the playoffs, I can pick up NE again for week 15 and 16 games against Jax and NYJ if they are still available. I might also start looking into a trade of Moe Williams for a QB, if I can get one better than Kitna from someone. I would consider someone like Maddox, who is 2nd in scoring in my league. Edit to add that I also dropped Buckhalter and picked up Mike Anderson as a backup for Portis. Even though he split carries with Q. Griffin (or is it Griffith?), I think that was more to see what the rookie had, especially since Mike was coming off a small injury. If Portis goes down (hope this doesn't happen), I think Anderson will probably carry the load. |

Title: Re: Thoughts on what my next move should be Post by steelkings on Oct 1st, 2003, 7:51am Dont pick up Dallas clark. He is putting up numbers that are as good as its gonna get. Jay Riemersma is gonna explode! The steelers are asking maddox to tone it down a little. they want less turn overs, therfore shorter passes. The steelers also try him in the red zone alot. |
