Title: Houston Texans - Week Three Analysis, Part Deux Post by Jetdoc on Sep 19th, 2003, 5:58pm I had typed out a VERY long analysis this week, but when I clicked on "post" I got a "server error". The back button got me nothing, either, so this is my second shot at it. >:( The Houston Texans come off a disappointing loss to the New Orleans Saints last week, and face the #1 offense in the country in the Kansas City Chiefs. That's not good for a defense that is sufferring from some bad injuries in the defensive tackle position (Seth Payne AND Gary Walker are hurt). Look for massive rushing out of the Chiefs, which means that the Houston offense won't see much time of possession throughout the game. Luckily, they'll probably be coming from behind, which will inflate their passing statistics. QB David Carr took a step backwards in the second half of last week, sufferring five sacks by an offensive line that gave up zero the previous week. Look for Carr to rebound partially this week as he has to air it out in a similar fashion to how Maddox did last week. David Carr - 250 yards passing, 1 TD, 1 INT; 10 yards rushing, 0 TDs RB The Texans' offensive line failed the Texans' rushing attack in Week 2, and I expect more of the same in Week 3. If the Texans fall behind (which is likely), the power rushing attack may be abandoned early, which means a Mack for Domanick Davis substitution. Stay away from Mack this week. Stacey Mack - 50 yards rushing, 0 TDs; 0 yards receiving, 0 TDs Domanick Davis - 30 yards rushing, 0 TDs; 30 yards receiving, 0 TDs WR The Texans receivers continue to exceed expectations, but unfortunately that means the odd man out is Billy Miller. Miller isn't seeing nearly the amount of looks that he did in 2002 from Carr, and I don't see that changing in the near future. Carr's goto guy is now Andre Johnson when he's in trouble. I reported on the Bradford/Gaffney relationship in the Week Two report, and from all local news reports, the mix will stay the same for the near future. If you start Bradford, you're a gambler for a big TD strike, and if you start Gaffney, you'll get consistent but boring numbers. Johnson may be the only WR worth a #3 WR start on anyone's roster. Andre Johnson - 6 catches, 80 yards, 1 TD Jabar Gaffney - 5 catches, 50 yards, 0 TD Corey Bradford - 2 catches, 60 yards, 0 TD Billy Miller (TE) - 2 catches, 30 yards, 0 TD K/D Against KC? Are you kidding? Overall, I expect a high scoring game from the Chiefs. Unfortunately, the Texans will get yards but probably won't put up much point wise this week. Chiefs 37, Texans 16 |

However, more important than that is that Hollings is going to be the featured back this week. Is this true? Is Mack already going to be relegated to 3rd down back? Please tell me it ain;t so!!! |

Boy, did that move pay off (considering my other 2 WRs - Torry Holt and Chad Johnson - had less than stellar performances) as Johnson had a huge week for me. It looks like all of the WRs are getting looks, but has Johnson firmly implanted himself as the #1 in Houston? Also, how significant/serious is the Carr injury? |

David's really feeling the pressure of a lack of a running game, and this week his otherwise hardy body broke down a bit.
