Title: "Sugar" Rod Smith Post by Philly on Sep 24th, 2003, 1:43pm The nickname comes, of course, from his (mis)adventures in boxing on Monday Night Football. I realize he was ejected from the game, but will there be any additional disciplinary action coming from the league? Fines? Suspension? The reason I ask is that I have to think about starting Ashley Lelie this week. He'll be a much more attractive starter if Rod Smith is sitting out a game because of a suspension. Regardless, should Ashley Lelie (up-and-comer) get a start over Peerless Price (who obviously isn't as peerless as his moniker might indicate) as my third WR this coming weekend? Lelie faces the [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif] Detroit Lions while Price goes up against the [smiley=pumped.gif] Carolina Panthers defense. |

Title: Re: "Sugar" Rod Smith Post by ColaSteeler on Sep 24th, 2003, 2:10pm Price has underachieved all year without Vick, so I would stay away from him. Lelie is worth the gamble IMO. He is just coming off a terrific game, Rod and Easy Ed haven't had good fantasy stats all year, and Plummer's best throw is the long ball on the run. |

Title: Re: "Sugar" Rod Smith Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Sep 24th, 2003, 7:39pm It doesn't look like Rod Smith will be fined by the NFL, because usually decisions for that are done on Wednesdays. Still though, if Peerless Price is your #3, where on most teams he's usually a #2, I'd take a shot with Lelie who has a very favorable matchup vs. Detroit. Remember, Lelie was catching passes while Rod was STILL in the game. Also, look what Tampa Bay's D did to Atlanta's O, now take into account that Carolina's D is just as good if not better then Tampa Bay's D. Then again, "never bench your studs" theory may come into affect... lol. [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif] |

Title: Re: "Sugar" Rod Smith Post by Walker Boh on Sep 24th, 2003, 8:07pm As far as the [smiley=boxer.gif] goes, I think the punishment has already been served. Being ejected from a big game like that on MNF in front of the entire world against your biggest rival is as stiff as it gets. Especially in a situation like that where the contact was clearly accidental. The guy basically had him in a head lock and he was trying to break free. I think the ejection itself was questionable and a game suspension on top of that would be shocking. :o Either way, I'd start Lelie this week. Detroit has already shown a poor passing D, giving up 350+ passing yards to Arizona in week one and the last time I checked Plummer and the Broncos were on a serious roll. Title: Re: "Sugar" Rod Smith Post by Noey21 on Sep 24th, 2003, 9:58pm Two big reasons to start Lelie. 1. He is playing a week defense and now has another chance to shine. 2. I know everyone says that preseason doesn't mean anything but once Vick went down Price never got passed to. Johnson threw 2 balls his way during preseason and only one of them was caught. I think it means alot because if you look at this season so far Price isn't doing anything. And that is even will the Falcons continually trailing and being forced to pass. |
