Title: Maddox and burress? Post by steelkings on Oct 6th, 2003, 7:55am I have Tommy Maddox and plex Burress. I have aquired Jimmy smith and David Boston to go with Tiki barber. Thank god for the ladder 3 as they carried my team. My back up qb is Kitna. My back up rb is eddie george. should I let it ride in hopes the pittsburgh o.line gets better or do I move some players. Ok, you guys earn your keep. Tell me what to do. |

I think I've already earned my keep, but will respond anyway. You're in great shape at QB with Maddox and Kitna (don't get too worried about one bad game from Maddox). I like your receivers, although I'd probably look to trade Boston now, while value is high, because it's likely he'll get hurt again, or break some team rule, etc. You're good at RB with Tiki, although Eddie George won't do much for you. Maybe throw him in a package deal with Boston for a better RB and a decent third WR...? |

Title: Re: Maddox and burress? Post by StegRock on Oct 6th, 2003, 2:27pm Well, I wouldn't be so confident with the Pittsburgh... Maddox situation at this point. Maddox has looked poor this year, period, and his making little $$$ makes him "easier" to bench/cut at the end of the year. He is starting to make me think he is a "one-year wonder". Since you have two Steelers (involved in the passing game), I say why not play it down the middle and get rid of one of them? In this case, I would keep Burress. I would try to move Maddox. But, for what? I don't know. It depends on whom you would package him with and what is available on your league's free-agents list. In any event, I don't think you are "in good shape" with Maddox and Kitna. That situation could turn and explode in your face very quickly. |

Title: Re: Maddox and burress? Post by Philly on Oct 6th, 2003, 3:43pm Since we're about 1/3 of the way through the season, let's check out the stats... Maddox has thrown for 1304 yards (260 a game), which is 3 yards less than the league leader (Ramsey). He's only tossing in one TD a game at this point and more than an INT a game. He's played tough defenses in Baltimore, KC, and Tennessee already this year, while he still has favorable matchups against Arizona, St. Louis, SF, Oakland, SD, and the Jets left. Kitna is 4th overall in passing yards. He is averaging just over a TD and an INT a game. Kitna has a pretty good WR corps and a RB who is injured. Burress is 9th overall in receiving yards. His 1 TD reception is troubling, but keep in mind that Laveranues Coles, for all of his yards, only has 1 TD. I don't think it's necessary for you to hit the panic button, which is what it sounds like you are doing. But I always shop players around, regardless of what they are doing. Find out what Maddox or Burress (or both) can get you. If you have a Steeler fan in your league, you might get a good deal. |

Title: Re: Maddox and burress? Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Oct 6th, 2003, 7:06pm Philly is right on this one. Although, I personally prefer Hines Ward over Burress. I'd keep Maddox as I think he will finish in the top 10 statistically for QBs and shop around Burress. Possibly for a Lavarnues Coles, Chris Chambers, Hines Ward(!), etc. |

Title: Re: Maddox and burress? Post by Callie on Oct 6th, 2003, 8:00pm If you have instant replies, Emmitt is out indefinately. Pittsburgh's schedule shouldn't change things alot for the middle third. However, Maddox has learned quickly before. Otherwise, I agree with Philly. |
