Post by StegRock on Oct 17th, 2003, 7:52pm Here's how the top of "The REAL Feed's" readin': Rookie Davis to start at running back for Texans FaceOff: Football (17.10.2003 18:38) HOUSTON (AP) - Houston Texans rookie tailback Domanick Davis will make his first NFL start Sunday against the New York Jets, replacing benched veteran Stacey Mack. Buh-bye, Stacey! [smiley=wave.gif] Enter, Mr. Domanick! [smiley=doseofreality.gif] |

Title: Re: Texans - Mack... What did I tell yous? Post by DOLFAN on Oct 18th, 2003, 10:58pm This was only a matter of time. I don't think Davis will be a solid #2 anytime soon, but ya never know with all the RBBC teams out there. Tony Hollings is still waiting in the wings too. We have talked about it Stegey, it's working just the way ya said my friend, and i agreed. Mack may turn into the TD guy there...IF... they get many TD shots. I think Houston also saw Mack as a fill gap and with the combo of Davis/Hollings who knows who will win the job out.My bet is Hollings (long term/keeper) wise. Davis is surely worth a roster spot in very deep leagues. Hollings too I guess. It really depends on how the OL progresses to see how effective any RB there will do. |

Title: Re: Texans - Mack... What did I tell yous? Post by Jetdoc on Oct 19th, 2003, 11:19am As I said in my week 7 analysis, there is definitely a RBBC in Houston, which couldn't have reasonably been foreseen at the beginning of the season, given that Davis has exceeded all expectations. This week, however, I STILL think that Mack will be the better fantasy back, as he is more attuned to exploiting the Jets defensive front by his power rushing style. I don't expect the Texans to go with their "King" set (3 WR's) very often in the Jets game, as the Jets secondary is exceptional in passing defense (#3 in the NFL with thei Cover 2 philosophy). Davis may be getting the start in Houston this week, but I expect that the Jets will be prepared for him, which will warrant the switch to Mack. Overall, this doesn't bode well for Mack in Houston. |

I don't know whether or not a RBBC was foreseeable; it's not even a reality really, but Mack's not being the shiznit surely was! Quote:
He may have been because of the touchdowns, but it is Davis who looks to be the real-deal starting NFL-caliber tailback! Quote:

Truest words! But, some did, in fact, see this coming! ;) |

Title: Re: Texans - Mack... What did I tell yous? Post by Jetdoc on Oct 21st, 2003, 6:45pm Alright, you were right about Mack's eventual stats, Steg, but you couldn't seriously have predicted at the beginning of the season that Domanick Davis would be the starting RB in Houston come Week 7, right? I am pleasantly surprised as well...I picked up Davis in Week 2 when he became their "change of pace" back as insurance for Mack. The Texans will probably go to their Kings set almost immediately next week against Indy, so Davis is looking pretty good in the short-term. Hollings owners have to be grumbling right now... |

Title: Re: Texans - Mack... What did I tell yous? Post by Callie on Oct 21st, 2003, 9:09pm Stacy Mack the Vulture Back. Gee. Where have I heard that before. I was on the losing end of that one in that year. Wonder what will happen this year..... [smiley=thinking.gif] |

Title: Re: Texans - Mack... What did I tell yous? Post by Callie on Oct 22nd, 2003, 1:22pm Didn't say second fiddle. Vulture back. Vulture backs make TDs. Know how many yards an RB has to run before he gives me as many points as a TD? |

Title: Re: Texans - Mack... What did I tell yous? Post by bakes781 on Oct 22nd, 2003, 2:00pm In my league the answer would be 60 yards. The PC term is "specialty back." It's another way of saying, you're not good enuff to be our primary back. Many teams have them now-a-days. Jordan, Cartwright, Alstott & now Mack. |

Garner's value has always suffered because of those guys. He might even be on the level of a Priest Holmes if it weren't for those 2, IMO. GO VIKES! |

Title: Re: Texans - Mack... What did I tell yous? Post by Callie on Oct 22nd, 2003, 6:13pm In my league it's 120 rushing yards to equal one TD. One point for every 20 yards rushing, 6 points for a TD. Domanick Davis needs to run for 120 yards to give me the points I'd get from one Stacy Mack TD. Davis does the work, Mack scores the fantasy points. But they're probably going to be spotty TDs, while Davis' rushing yards should be steady. Still, the "goal line back" gets a lot of points for each spotty TD. |
