Title: Willie Green for Moulds?????
Post by DirkDiggler on Oct 23rd, 2003, 1:48pm
OK--

Should I do this trade?  I am in a 10 team league.  Traditional scoring system of 1 point for 10 yards and 6 points for TD.  -2 for fumbles.  We must Start:

2 RB
2 WR
1 FLEX player

I have been offered Willie Green for Moulds.

My other receivers are:

Harrison--
Holt--
Andre Johnson--
MccCardell.

My running backs are nothing to write home about.  I have:

Holmes
Moe Williams--maybe RBBC??
Adrian Peterson
Duckett
Stecker--insurance for Pittman this week
Pittman
So, on the surface, it seems this trade maybe a no brainer.  BUT.....

I like Moulds.  He is about even to Green in points this year while having a bye week and injuries.

Willie Green hurt himself last week.  Not much news about the injury.  I am very leary.

While WIllie Green gets some yardage, his O-line is basically DEAD and he only has ONE TD this year with 5 fumbles.

Will Willie Green emerge like he did at the end of last year?  Will he stink up the place?

Or...I AM JUST TOTALLY OVER ANALYZING THIS DEAL?  MY GUT JUST SAYS "NO."

How many players do you start at each position?

If you're starting 3 WRs or less, then go ahead and make the deal.  You're in tremendous shape with Harrison and Holt, and Andre Johnson is a very solid #3 WR.  I'd be very happy with McCardell as a backup as well.

You need some help at the RB position, and Green (even with a tweaked shoulder) will, if nothing else, provide some depth.  Start Priest and Williams for now and hope for the best with Green.

Given your receivers, which I think are a VERY good set, vis-a-vis your running backs, which are surely weak Holmes notwithstanding, I would make the deal in a heartbeat.  Regarding the injury to Green, I haven't heard much about it.  But, in any event, it couldn't be that bad, no worse than Moulds's, who you'd be dealing in return.  I mean even if Green is dinged-up, it would just make things more even:  beat-up player for beat-up player.  Actually, when thinking about it, if Green is NOT injured, this is a straight-up good deal for you as I see it.  I give the (significant) edge to Green (unbelievable as I don't even really like Green very much as many of you here are well aware) based simply on RB's being more valuable than WR's (I'm also not all too high on Moulds right now).

Moulds was my top WR draft pick (4th round) and I've been disappointed not having him the last couple weeks.   I don't see him being productive until after the Bills bye next week.

That said, your situation is ripe for this deal.  You're sitting extremely solid at WR and can afford this deal, though IMO Green is not as much value as Moulds.

In the end, you've gotta make your team stronger to get a championship, and you can't always let the fact that you made the other guy stronger hold you back.

I'd do it.

GO VIKES!

I'd get a better RB then Green for Moulds... if that's possible.

Pittman has played solidly this year, and there is no reason he can't continue the pace all season. Priest Holmes single handedly can win games for you, we all know that.

Michael Bennet is not back, yet. You can ride out Moe Williams for a little while longer, maybe 2-3 weeks more, then trade him away the week before Bennet comes back along with McCardell/Johnson for Willie Green, if the guy bites.

T.J. Duckett seems to be the #1 guy down in ATL, Vick WILL come back this season, remember this, as I think Duckett's value will increase with Vick's return while Dunn's will decline with Vick's return. Why? While D's are focused in on Vick, he can hand it off to Duckett, the better runner, and Vick will do more scrambling then passing with that o-line.

Your RB situation isn't terrible, it's solid. I would stay put with Moulds, unless you can get something better for him. I wasn't sold on Green last year, nor this year, nor in college.

While I tend to agree with that "subjectively speaking" (as many of you know), "objectively speaking", I still think he has "(an injured) Moulds" value (as explained in my post above).

Well...thanks for the input.  You all helped me see the light.  I just pulled the trigger on the deal.   I am not sure why I was so leery of this deal.  Just doesn't do anything for me.  Oh well....what is done is done.

KJ--  I was thinking like you.  The problem is running backs are more valuable than WR.  I couldn't get anyone better.  I did not want to keep pushing my luck with the running backs I have. As a matter of fact, I was forced into this deal with Pittmans injury, Ducketts bye week, Peterson's injury, and Stecker being a poo poo player.
