Title: Trade Offer in my $$$ League
Post by Philly on Nov 4th, 2003, 12:41am
My roster is listed below.  We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF  (No keepers).

I've been offered Stephen Davis for Torry Holt.

I declined the offer because I'd be too stacked at RB and can only use two of them each week.  I'd be agonizing with a stud on the bench each week.

So I counteroffered:

I send him (Jimmy Smith or Andre Johnson), McGahee, and Foster --- for --- Anthony Thomas and Darnerian McCants.

He really wants to upgrade his WR corps, so I'm asking for McCants just to have an emergency guy on my bench.  I do need a RB this week to fill in for Portis on his bye and in case of an injury to either Portis or Lewis as the season goes on.  He owns THenry and SDavis at RB, so the two I'm offering are good handcuffs for him.

1.  I made the right decision by declining the first offer, right?

2.  Is there any chance that he'll accept my counter?  He's not a moron or anything...  ::)

On #1 - Yes.  The only advantage you gain in taking Davis is leverage to send him to another team.  Kinda like Monopoly where you trade one guy for Tennessee Ave cuz the guy who has your Park Place needs it.

On #2 - This is tough.  Smith/Johnson is a major upgrade from McCants IMO.  I guess it comes down to him feeling Davis will make it through the season or not.  He's already willing to deal him so...   Foster would make a great addition if one were worried about Davis health, as I thought he looked pretty good in his limited opportunities this year.

If he's desperate enough to upgrade his receivers, he should take it.

You definitely made the right decision in declining.

And, NO WAY he accepts your counter offer!  IMO he is not getting enough in return.  Receivers are too inconsistant to give up A-train.

Good idea on declining the trade Jeff. I might go for that counter offer, I'd take AJ.

Well, he didn't go for the counter-offer.  He wants WR help, but really wants to move Stephen Davis for a top-flight WR.

I'm the top-scoring team in the league (though I lost two close games when I was hit hard with byes).  So I just added some bye-week insurance for this coming week (with Denver - Portis and Sharpe) off.

I figure I'll stay put for now.
