Title: Which QB should Start
Post by DC_Disaster on Nov 7th, 2003, 9:50am
If I don't trade Hasselbeck before this weekend who should I start?

McNair vs Miami or Hass vs Washinton

Mcnair is my stud but the matchup in Redskin land has me looking at Hass.

Thanks

Even though Miami has a tough D, I'd go with McNair.  The Titans don't run the ball too well, so they have to rely on their passing attack.  Plus McNair has the ability to score on the ground for you.

I'd give McNair a slight edge over Hasselbeck this weekend.

Dont bench your studs!

Not sure if you saw the game WAS played vs DAL last week, but QCarter was lighting them up, and if his receivers could hang on he'd have had a huge game.  So Hass probably isn't too bad a start either, but McNair is the league MVP right now.

WAS pass D is poor, but I'd still go with McNair.

I also have Brady as a back up. I'm  looking to trade Hasselbeck, Pittman and Streets for Bennett, D. Jackson and T. Owens.   This owner is last in the league and needs a QB(Carr and Gannon) and his RBs are weak. I know TO is a longshot  but he might go for it.  What do you think?

If it were me, I don't think I'd be getting enough back to give up Owens.  Hass isn't enough of an upgrade to drop give him up.  I'd go waiver wire and hope to get QCarter, Ramsey, maybe even Leftwich.

We have a 14 team league and all the QBs you mentioned are taken.  The only  QBs that  will start are  K. Kittner or R. Meir.   I agree that TO is worh more but he is in last place and wants to "shake hings up".  I'm going to see what he wants and see if we can work a deal.  This would be my team;
QB - McNair, Brady
RB - S. Davis, McAllister, Bennett, Foster
WR - Harrison, TO, D. Jackson, Mason and Calico
TE - LJ Smith
K - Vanderjagt
D - MIN

If I could get it, I would do that trade you mention in a heartbeat, DC.  Brady is a statistically solid QB, especially to have as just a back up, and Terrell Owens is still a blue-chip player, recent drought notwithstanding.

As for your starting quarterback for the week, I am in complete agreement with Philly and captainpurple.  It's not so much "Don't play Hasselbeck!" as it is "Don't bench McNair!" if you follow.

Thanks for the advise!!  This is my first time in FF and this site has helped more than you know.  I'm hooked ;D

McNair it is.  I will let you know if the trade goes thru.

Thanks again ;)

But...
We're only mid-season.  What if McNair gets hurt?  You'd be left with Brady as your QB.
I like the trade for itself, but I don't like your QB position after.  And Matt's schedule isn't all that bad the rest of the way.

My feeling is this  guy needs a qB this week.  Both his are hurt.   To get the deal done, he will want Hass.  If Brady wasn't on a bye, I would offer him b/c of their schedules.  I like Brady though.  He's a gamer.  I just have a  feeling about him and NE this year (SuperBowl?)
If McNair goes down this week (knock on wood)  I could always trade TO  for  a QB.

What DC said.  I was just going to add that you gotta' give to get.  That's what trading is all about.  You can't have it both ways (if you are in a league with fairly savvy owners).  The trade is ultimately is good one.

Do you have a deadline for trades in your league?

The deadline for free agent pickups is next Wed. and next Sun. for trades.

So if McNair gets hurt, you'd better be right about Brady! :)
He may have the talent, but does he have the team?
Hope McNair stays solid.  I like him.  He's a warrior.
Good Luck!

I agree....don't bench McNair. He is having a fantastic season, and they pass first, run second...

Don't bench McNair...........the Fish give up a lot of yards and tend to give up 1 big pass play each week.

Week 1 Carr 78 yard touchdown pass

and of course the OT loser to the Pats.

Damn them for always playing sinngle coverage odds are you get burnt once in a while

The trade went through, but not in time for this weekend. :'(  My new team looks like;
QB - McNair, Brady
RB- S. Davis, McAllister, Bennett, Foster
WR - Harrison, Owens, D. Jackson, Mason, Toomer and
        Warrick
TE - LJ Smith            ;D
K - Vandrjagt
D - MIN

I have plans to get P. Holmes and improve my D.  Any other suggestions?  ?.?.?

What are you going to have to give up for Priest Holmes???  I think you could use a better D, and should be able to get one without giving up too much.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you are 7-2, and you just improved your team even more, don't do too much more tinkering.

No, I don't want to "tinker" to much, your right.  With the schedule that Holmes has, I think its worth a try.
These are the 2 offers I'm concidering.

Bennett, TO and MIN for Holmes and NE
or
S. Davis, Toomer and MIN for Holmes, Gardner and NE
(I think I like the first trade - Start Holmes, S. Davis and McAllister/ Harrison, D. Jackson and Mason or Toomer)

The guy was thinking he would make he playoffs but it doesn't look good for him.  He is 4-5 and this week will be close.  If he won't see the post season, he will trade Holmes to me.
What do you think?

I don't see how you could get Holmes w/o giving up Harrison or McNair.  Your commish should reject it otherwise.  Good luck!

If you can swing either of those deals you should probably go for it.  The first one is obviously the better one for you, but the second one would work too.

In my division, I am 8-2(by the skin of my teeth) and 2 teams at 7-3.  The team that has Holmes is 5-5.  The 3 top teams in each division move on.   He has said he will put a deal together if he can't make the post season. It does not look good for him w/ 2 games to go.  Even if he backs out, my team looks strong.  I just need a better D

Which would you go after, TENN, DAL, STL, SF or NE?

Title: Re: Which QB should Start

Tennessee hands down w/o even looking up the remaining schedules that is the best D right now.

Here are the scheds for Tennessee and Dallas, the two best defenses listed.

TEN: Jax, @Atl, @NYJ, Ind, Buf, @Hou, TB

DAL: @NE, Car, Mia, @Phi, @Was, NYG, @NO

If Week 14 is important to you, maybe you don't want your defense playing Indianapolis.  When are your playoffs/championship games?
