Title: Fantasy Dilemma II: Marshall Faulk
Post by Coachnorm on Nov 11th, 2003, 10:06am
Marshall Faulk appeared in our lineups this week. The two TD's were great but the yardage????? A nice fantasy performance but a curious real footabll perfomance as you can't depend on the D getting the ball inside the five every week. I tend to think that it was the result of a totally inspired Raven D performance considering They stooped Holmes and other quality backs in their tracks this year. But what do you think? Do we see a more typical Faulk performance this week. Let me say that I'm not sure we will see Super Faulk any more but do we see a very solid starter in Faulk ? Discuss.

The Rams have the league's 2nd easiest schedule against the pass.

Rest of the schedule is: at Chi, at Ari, Min, at Cle, Sea, Cin, at Det.  Generally better for the passing game overall.

The running game has to work to make a passing game work, but will it be an RBBC?  Gordon is ready to come back and Harris has shown he can at least do it once in a while.

I don't think he'll be Super Faulk ever again.  But there will be shining moments.  Figure out what you have on your bench for the many games left that are INCREDIBLY easy against the pass!  Although, if the Rams get so far ahead that they only care about ball control/clock control, what's your scoring system in terms of yards and TDs?

Believe it or not, if I had Faulk now, I'd play him as a good matchups RB.

Great info on their schedule Callie.  I wonder if Faulk will get a ton of screen passes against these teams?  He is incredible off the short dump offs.

But like you, I am leary of that potential RBBC.  It seems anyone can run in that system and behind that line!

If they were really looking to make it a RBBC don't you think Arlen Harris would have gotten more carries then he did? I don't even remember if he got 1.

The Baltimore D is tops against the run, so you can't blame Marshall for the yardage. Tack on it's his FIRST game BACK from injury. At the last minute I started Faulk over Dunn, do I regret? Not really, I still won. Though Faulk has to much potential to break out to be benched. 5 of those 7 games in my opinion with the exceptions of Min and Sea are great against the run. Ja Lewis vs. Clevelands Run D? Clinton Portis vs. Arizona's Run D?

I traded for Faulk earlier in the season, based on the latter part of the schedule. I think I may come away with a steal. I was off to a losing streak, but now I'm currently in 4th place in the league with a four game winning streak. Faulk, may not get the yardage, but as it was proved Sunday night, he will get the ball down in the goal line area.

I too traded for Marshall for the late season schedule. He is currently third on my depth chart behind Jamal and Tiki, but if he continues to look good, and Barber keeps fumbling, I will gladly switch it up.

Marshall Faulk, at this point in his career, is a lower-tier #2 fantasy back (think Martin, George) or a very good #3 fantasy back.

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get hurt again this season (assuming he is being used by Martz).  Even when he is healthy, he is a shell of his former self.  Martz doesn't use him like he uses Gordon (or even Harris).

I stand with Philly and Callie here.  No need to re-word it, really, but...  In summary with a little editorial...  The days of "Super Faulk" are over, but he does have an auspicious schedule from here on out for the remainder of this season, so he might have a good stretch run.  But, in deep keeper leagues, I'd be lookin' to capitalize on that at the end of the season/the offseason and trading him.  He is just not the same player, the Faulk of '99.  But, keep your expectations realistic and don't be surprised if he disappoints, especially if you expect too much, and don't be surprised if he pulls up lame again soon, especially if you're really depending on him.

Here's what I saw today:

Who knows????  What does the easy pass schedule do?

I think Faulk still is in a situation where the easy points are with the pass.  He basically makes the passing game possible.  But in Fantasy Football, the points depend on the yards and the TDs.  And remember that if the Rams are looking to the post season, some players will be saved for it.  Like in KC.

Faulk has proven in the past to be a very big asset to the passing game. Screen passes, shovel passes, slipping through the line after a fake handoff a grabbing a pass just behind the line. He is very fuctional as a participant in the passing scheme, moreso than Gordon and Harris and that is the reason Martz wants to utilze him.

For me Marshal is a nice fit. My league is Td oriented with light yardage, so a game like he had last week was a nice showing in our scoring system. We have to get people in our lineup that can score. We start two rb's but can start a third in a rb/wr flex spot. I have Ahman Green, DD, and Faulk in the lineup with RUDI ( that whole Dillon probable thing rearing it ugly head again) on the bench.
