Title: Vikings - Week 11 Analysis Post by captainpurple on Nov 14th, 2003, 4:25pm OK, I'm not having much success predictoball-ing [smiley=crystalball.gif] these games lately, but when breaking them down, I just can't seem to see these games shaking out the way the have the last 2 weeks. Anyway, here we go again. Vikes look to get back to a 3 game lead in the Norris by beating OAK, and counting on TB for a win at home vs the fudgePackers. Raiders are in complete disarray and starting Mirer this week doesn't bode well for rectifying that. Flutie is huge wildcard with a winning history; Mirer is not, and I don't see a repeat of last week, not matter how hard I try. When the Raider's have the ball... I'm sure the Raiders have seen the successes vs MIN lately, and recent play has made it clear they don't want their fate in Mirer's hands. A team known to pass 45-50 times is now running the ball that many times. This week's matchup actually works out for OAK, who can run the ball wide with Garner, and have an excellent possession receiving crew in Rice, Brown, Jolley/Johnson & Porter. The Raiders won't be as successful as Flutie was (42 pts), but they have enough talent to be solid and keep from being blown out. When the Vikings have the ball... Vikes offense has played well enough to win 2 of the 3 they've lost lately. I don't see them changing much this week. Raiders are ranked 30th vs the run, and 30th in rushing TDs. They are semi-solid vs the pass, ranked 15th in yds TDs. The Vikes can kill 2 birds w/ one stone by running the ball effectively and keeping their limping D off the field. Look for Bennett and Williams to be the weapon, and a couple attempts over the top to Moss to try to keep things honest. Key Matchups Vikings D vs Vikings D These guys need to take a long look in the mirror and get some swagger back. A matchup vs OAK may be what they need. Look for them to try to stuff the run and make Mirer beat them. A couple picks and a win can cure a lot of bad memories! Moss vs Woodson Woodson gets to put up or shutup this week. His bickering over the last couple weeks will look pretty silly if Moss torches him for a hundy2touch (100 yds & 2 TDs). Woodson has great coverage and ball-hawking skills, but Moss is simply on fire this year, and I see him getting a MossJumpFade TD in the RZ. The Game Vikings need a win badly, and with the Pukers going to Tampa, it could be a big game-gaining week with a win. Raiders are very run-vulnerable, so look for Bennett and Moe to be pounding the ball. Linehan likes to go up top early and setup a lead for the attacking D. They haven't been successful lately, and have put way too much pressure on the D. Look for them to go more conventional early, trying to control the ball running. Raiders will need to score 28 to win this game, something they've done only once this year. They should have some success copying recent gameplans, but can Mirer sustain drives as Flutie/Farte/Collins have? Not likely IMO. I see a marginally better game played by MIN, who drops behind early 3-0 or 7-0, and then takes control and wins going away 31-20. Forecast Minnesota Vikings - 31 Oakland Raiders - 20 Daunte Culpepper - 270 pa.yds & 2TDs, 35 ru.yds - Finally starting to play at top of his game. Moe Williams - 80 ru.yds, 45 rec.yds & 1TD - Holding Bennett off for another week. Onterrio Smith - 10 rec.yds - Returning kicks, not seeing much else. Michael Bennett - 85 ru.yds & 1TD, 35 rec.yds - Most of this comes on a long one broken for a touch. Randy Moss - 105 yds & 1TD - Can Woodson stop him? D'wayne Bates - 15 yds - Back in at #2, but no WR seeing anything if your name's not Moss. Kelly Campbell - zilch - Relegated to 4th receiver Nate Burleson - 25 yds - 3rd receiver now, maybe a big play. Jimmy Kleinsasser - 45 rec.yds, 1TD - Getting more each week. Aaron Elling - 1FG & 4XP - Back at full strength. D/ST - 2sacks, 2INT - Should see success vs Mirer. Rick Mirer - 220 yds & 1TD, 2INT - Not going to make the difference in this one. Charlie Garner - 85 ru.yds, 65 rec. yds - Should see same success as Portis/Barber/Green/LT Wheatley/Crockett - 7 yds & 1TD - Screeeeech. *circle*, *circle* Screeeeech! Jerry Rice 55 yds - Solid as always Tim Brown 15 yds - Losing looks to Porter again. Jerry Porter 55 yds & 1TD - Breaks away for a long TD. Teyo Johnson - 30 yds - Drags are wide open lately. SeaBass - 2 FG, 2 XP D/ST 1 INT, 1 sack - Long day on the field. GO VIKES! |

Title: Re: Vikings - Week 11 Analysis Post by Philly on Nov 14th, 2003, 4:36pm My guess is that the Vikings end their 3-game losing streak in a BIG way this weekend. Oakland is in shambles right now. I hope that Moe holds off Bennett for a few more weeks. Just an observation, but your anti-obsession with the Packers seems to be an almost unhealthy one. Have you sought help for it? ;) |
