Title: Bengals - Dillon/Johnson becomes murkier
Post by DirkDiggler on Nov 16th, 2003, 11:39am
ESPN has reported twice this morning that Dillon will be active.  Who the hell knows what his role will be?

It does make Rudi Johnson less appealing all of a sudden cause he may be splitting carries.

Then again, Dillon may on get 5 carries and all Rudi owners will be pissed they benched him!!!

Here's the bead on "The REAL Feed":

Dillon, Johnson could share Bengals' RB position
NFL.com (19.11.2003 21:18)
Corey Dillon wasn't listed on the Cincinnati Bengals' injury report, an indication that the running back is no longer severely limited by a strained groin.

Here's the story from the LOCAL daily on "the Gridiron Newsstand" reporting about it:

I don't know...  I see Rudi as their future, which is starting now, and Corey as their past, which is over.  I see them continuing to use Rudi as their featured back as they prepare for Dillon's departure next year. [smiley=whatever.gif]

To me it seems like the Bengals play so much better as a team when Rudi has the rock.

He has has been the most productive NFL running back over the past month with 482 yards and four touchdowns over his past four games. If I'm Marvin Lewis I got to go with the hot legs and start him against San Diego.

And I think that is what will happen because it is obvious that Lewis is showing no favoritism towards Dillon.

They should share carries.  Rudi gets 25 and Corey gets 5 to run out the clock at the end of the game.

I just read  that Dillon will be the starter...not good.

Here's all that's out there that's new from the local Cincinnati sources on "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://bengals.enquirer.com/2003/11/21/bengalsnotes-1121.html.

Really, not much of a change from yesterday's news. [smiley=whatever.gif]

I think this might be the word that's gettin' around and causing all this commotion:

Fanball's at it again, freakin' everybody out with their opinion. ::)

...

Ultimately, I don't think it matters who "starts".  It's who "finishes" that matters.  And, I think Dillon's days are numbered in Cincy...  Dillon's "finished" while Rudi's "finishing"! [smiley=threed.gif]

Bengals: Lewis leaning toward Dillon

News
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals' head coach Marvin Lewis is leaning toward starting Corey Dillon on Sunday against the Chargers. Dillon has participated in all workouts this week and is feeling healthy. Rudi Johnson, who has filled in with flying colors, would still be involved in the offense.

Views
Even if Dillon starts, Rudi will still get his share of carries. Starting either appears to be a risk without further information, although the Chargers run defense could definitely allow both of them to be productive.

On the other hand...this Rudi/Corey thing could be a misdirection to go flat out in the passing game against SD.

With Rudi and Corey getting attention from the SD defense, Kitna can get some good plays to his WRs.  SD is giving up passing TDs all over the place.  DEN, MIN and MIA combined got 10 passing TDs against SD, and SD has given up 22 passing TDs this season. QBs are averaging 260 yards a game against SD in the last six games, and SD is weak against the TE.

It's possible that the passing game will get CIN to the red zone.  Will they risk further injury to Corey in the crunch, or let Rudi run it in?

I'd play my CIN WRs and Rudi.

I wouldn't put too much stock into Fanball... they seem to be the masters of misinformation.  Don't know why people still go to that site when they've been wrong so often.

If I owned Rudi, I'd start him.  Same goes with Wheatley.

Fanball is a tidbit at lunch time.  The other sites I read are saying the same thing this time.  But some of them say they're starting Rudi in a pinch.  I'm guessing it's a psych game for Rudi.  As for Wheatly, if I owned him I'd start him, too!

ESPN just reported Rudi Johnson will start this week!!

Who knows what the breakdown of carries will be, but this is good news for Rudi owners.

This is the first time I have heard Mort get it wrong.  Dillon ended up with the start.(and more yards)  DOH!!

It wasn't just that.  Everything I read had Rudi starting and getting more of the carries.  Psych game.

And they DID go to the passing attack against a lousey SD pass D.  Rudi and Corey were a diversion.  Chad Johnson had 3 TDs.  Won one of my leagues for me!

I guess this stuff is "Welcome to fantasy football 2003."
