Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by StegRock on Nov 18th, 2003, 2:52pm WOW! This is HUGE news... He has been deactivated for THE REST OF THE SEASON! Here's how it reads on "The REAL Feed": Bucs deactivate Keyshawn Johnson The Sports Network: NFL (18.11.2003 14:08) Here are all the LOCAL newsbreaks from the sources on "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://bucs.tbo.com/bucs/MGA7T8WA6ND.html; http://www.sptimes.com/2003/11/18/Bucs/Bucs_sit_Keyshawn_for.shtml; http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/football/pro/buccaneers/orl-spt-keyshawn111803,1,2169791.story?coll=orl-bucs. You have to say that the respective values of Keenan McCardell and Joe Jurevicius skyrocket, no? Also, this does beg the question... Will there be a Keyshawn-Parcells reunion in Dallas next year? [smiley=hmmmm.gif] |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by DirkDiggler on Nov 18th, 2003, 2:53pm This is great news for McCardell owners. :) ;D I guess the ultimate question here is: Are we sure Butch Davis is not behind this move? |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by Keyshawn Johnson 76yards on Nov 18th, 2003, 3:19pm This is by far the stupidest move I have ever witnessed in my entire life. Do they not realize the ability and talent of Keyshawn? Do they not realize that in order for him to be productive, they need to GET HIM THE BALL? I'm not saying they don't need a change at the WR position. Though, trading away KJ is NOT the answer. They need someone, ala Santana Moss type of player to compliment the talent of KJ. McCardell and Jurevicius are just lesser talented forms of KJ. They are ALL possesion recievers. I'm disgusted at this decision. I mean, if they do trade KJ, I sure as hell expect some talent equal if not better then KJ. If he does get traded to Dallas, and all they get is a 3rd round pick for him, I may very well become a Cowboys fan... |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by StegRock on Nov 18th, 2003, 4:05pm Oh, pullleeeeeeze! [smiley=pullleeeeeeeze.gif] This is a stroke of brilliance. I really don't want to explain why because the reasons have basically nothing to do with talent (which, by the way, with respect to Keyshawn is much more of a debatable issue than is indicated in the post above) and all to do with the all-important "intangibles" of the game, of life, and the explanation of which will probably come off as "condescending". ::) If someone else gets what I am saying and wants to explain it, please do. I just don't feel like getting into a week-long argument over it and wasting colossal amounts of time because of ego's and ... getting in the way (of reason)... |

This my friend, is why YOUR the one with the "ego." I respect your opinion and insulting comments like those are truly un-called for. Yes, I get the bigger picture. I'm assuming your talking about his "detrimental" comments towards the team, and almost everyone's supposed assumption that it's all about him. They need a shake-up at the WR position, but as I stated in my last post, de-activating KJ with play-off contention still in grasp, but far from reach, is just ridiculous. They need all the help they can possibly get to get into the playoffs. If they wanted to trade KJ after the season, so be it, as I ALSO stated in my last post, if the trade got them equal or better talent then that of KJ's. Yes, his statistics can be debateable as to whether or not he is an elite WR. Though, honestly, the Tampa Bay system just doesn't seem to work on getting him the ball, or atleast ALLOWING him to get the ball. They need a speed WR to compliment him, and then I am sure of this, a rise in his production will not be unheard of. |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by StegRock on Nov 18th, 2003, 4:46pm It's not just the singular comments he's made. This is a quintessential example of "addition by subtraction". |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by Callie on Nov 18th, 2003, 9:15pm Keep the Gruden factor in mind. He is ALWAYS determined to be the Captain of his ship. When he was in Oakland, he and Gannon were the most hated guys with the team. But it got results. I won't argue stats or philosophy on this one. But I do know that the team is like the military in its own way. Right or wrong, someone has to be in charge. And everyone else needs to know how to be a part of the team. Otherwise the only thing you have to do to get the ball is make noise. Who are your greatest heros in the NFL? In a backwards way, this is the same kind of fight Elway won in Denver. In this one, Chuckie was in charge and made his decision. He had the option to do it. Only time will tell if he was right. But if Keyshawn does well elsewhere, that's where he should be. Not in TB. |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by Mossaholic on Nov 18th, 2003, 9:29pm I like this move and agree with you Steg. MeShawn is like a cancer(like B. Bonds) in the locker room, he no good to the Bucs. His stats are not debatable for an elite reciever. he is avg at best. The only peple that think Keshawn is better than Marvin Harrison is Keshawn and kesawn's mom. Chris Collinsworth |

Actually, Callie, what you state above is really VERY poignant. In a weird way, one could even parallel it to what goes on here on occasion, i.e. some of the angst people have toward me when I "do my thing" here to "mold" the place how I want. Analogy: Gruden, the Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is to StegRock, Owner and Administrator of "the Gridiron @ FantasyFootballer.com", as Keyshawn Johnson, player, is to (__________), member. on 11/18/03 at 21:29:25, Mossaholic wrote:

Yeah, because a KJ76yards is such a weird weird name. ::) I never stated, nor thought, that Keyshawn was a much more talented WR then Harrison. Though, to put it in perspective for you all, he is the fastest reciever to 600 receptions, behind only whom? Marvin Harrison. He only catches 80-90 balls a year for a 14 ryp/g. The system wasn't built for Keyshawn. The Bucs aren't trying to win, they're trying to make a "statement" and put the blame of their poor performance on one player, that being Johnson. I have yet to see his interview, but I am sure his interview was only given after the fact that the Tampa Bay Organization just TRASHED him after they told him not to go public with this situation. He retaliated, he didn't strike first, he struck back. This doesn't make sense to do, at this time of the season. This is something that should have been handled in the OFF-season. Barry Bonds a cancer? He only hits 50+ HRs a game... |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by Callie on Nov 19th, 2003, 7:09pm A newsletter I get asked Raider fans if they wanted KJ to become a Raider. One responder included a link to a big, well known Raider forum. So..I took a look at the forum. A few people in the forum wanted Key for his production and thought he'd do well in Oakland. But a big majority said NO WAY. Many mentioned they were hoping for T.O. In summary, the Raider Nation isn't exactly wishing him into the fold. |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by steelkings on Nov 19th, 2003, 8:46pm A guy like KJ is someone who has mega talent that needed a childs time out. KJ76 is right. He's a great reciever who Tampa will be sorry they let go. Thats only because they let him go. He will learn a lesson and put up monster numbers somewhere else. If they were to have let him stay, he would continue as a festering boil on that team. This was the only solution. KJ76 may be mad because he is Key John. Be glad you get paid to play on this web site. Im sure we will hear from you more now that you have all this time on your hands. Can I have your autograph? ;D |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by #1 Steelers Fan on Nov 19th, 2003, 9:29pm I really can't make heads or tails out this whole mess. I can see how Chucky probably couldn't take KJ any more and I can see why KJ wanted out. Two guys that just don't see eye to eye. As far as the Bucs go, they have a chance to make the play-offs even at 4-6. Thier next 5 games are against teams that don't have winning record, and thier final game is against the titans. Say they go 9-7, they have a chance but it would require a meltdown by one of the NFC East and West teams to lose out on the wild card. So why get rid of KJ, I could see it if they were 2-8 |

Title: Re: Buccaneers - Finally MeShawn deactivated Post by Callie on Nov 21st, 2003, 6:04pm The latest Keyshawn sitings have him saying that the Miami Dolphins are one of four teams he'd be interested in playing for next season and that there is a good chance he could be "reunited" with Bill Parcells. OK. So it's a different form of vulturing to enjoy this stuff. :) |
