Title: Patriots ~ Week 13 Analysis
Post by bakes781 on Nov 26th, 2003, 5:12pm
I have to make this quick because I after today I won't have access to a computer until saturday.

The Patriots have a lot riding on this game.  The  [smiley=horse.gif] have been a team that Belichick has had some success against in the past.  Confusing Peyton with different looks on every down.  Forcing him to throw into coverage.  In order to beat a turf like the Colts you have gotta be physical at the line.  Bump the WRs before they can get into their stride.  The X factor in this one is the Edge factor.  James success early will determine the winner of this game.  Without a running threat Manning's play action will have no affect on the OLBs.  On offense the Pats will need to put points on the board early or it could be a long day for Brady.

Patriots Statistical Breakdown:

Tom Brady ~ 270 yards passing, 2 tds & 1 int(forced to throw early)
K Faulk/A Smith ~ 60 yards rush. 75 receiving & 1 TD(combined them b/c I give up trying to guess who will be "the guy")
Troy Brown ~ still questionable
Deion Branch ~ 80 yards receiving (new go to guy)
Bethel Johnson ~ 25 yards receiving (deep threat)
David Givens ~ still questionable
JJ Stokes ~ 10 yards receiving(still learning system)
Dedric Ward ~ 10 yards receiving & 1 TD
Christian Fauria ~ 20 yards receiving
Daniel Graham ~ 50 yards receiving(the future)
Adam Vinatieri ~ 2 FGs & 2 PATs

Colts Statistical Breakdown:

Peyton Manning ~ 225 yards pass, 10 yards rush, 1 td & 1 int
Edgerrin James ~ 2 tds, 110 yards rushing, 20 yards receiving(big factor early)
Marvin Harrison ~ 80 yards receiving & 1 td
Troy Walters ~ 40 yards receiving
Reggie Wayne ~ 40 yards receiving
Aaron Moorehead ~ 15 yards receiving
Dallas Clark ~  30 yards receiving
Marcus Pollard ~ injured
Mike Vanderjagt ~ 2 FGs & 3 PATs

FINAL SCORE
PATRIOTS 20
COLTS 27

As you can see I don't have confidence that the Patriots can stop James.  I hope I'm wrong, but I feel the Pats struggle to score points is finally going to catch up with them.  Even if we do jump out to an early lead the Colts have shown they can come back from big defecits.  Here's a look at the Pats-Colts history:

From where I sit here in Indy . The Colts never beat the Patriots. It wont happen this time either. Coach Bill always takes one thing away. Thats Edge this week . Harrison is milking a hamstring and he just doesnt have that break away speed he needs to be effective. At least not last week.

PS
Payton manning had an MRI on his elbow on Wenesday. Results were negitive, but it sure raises a brow.

8 wins in a row.  #2 in the AFC.  A win away from clinching the AFC east.  That's just some of the things my Patriots accomplished yesterday.  I know a win is a win & if they keep winning I shouldn't complain.  But they continue to fail to put teams away.  Up 21 to 10 I thought Charlie Weiss would try to run some clock by handing the ball to Faulk the rest of the way.  Instead I'm seeing 5 wides & an empty backfield???  "What the BLEEP are they doing" I said.  Sure enough Brady gets picked off not once but twice.  All of sudden were up by only 7.  They finally decide to run & Faulk fumbles the ball!  Tie ball game.  I swear the Patriots don't know how to play with a lead.  It's as if they are more comfortable coming from behind.  It drives us fans insane.  Anyway with some help from the NEW Dante Hall, Bethel Johnson the Pats take the lead back.  After a Vandejagt FG the Pats have a chance to end the game by getting a couple of 1st downs.  Do they run the ball?  Nope.  They not only fail to get a 1st down they only used up 10 seconds of the clock.  An 18 yard punt by Ken Walters(don't get me started on him) sets up the Colts with great field position.  Manning drives them to 1st & goal at the 1 yard line with under a minute left.  From there the Pats D just as they did in Houston last week stuffed everything the offense threw at them.
