Title: EAGLES....................Week 13 Analysis Post by Philly on Nov 27th, 2003, 10:31am The Eagles keep rolling along. At 8-3, they are tied for first place with Dallas in the NFC East and have the same record as the Rams and the Panthers. This week the Eagles face those NFC South-leading Carolina Panthers. The Panthers feature Stephen Davis, Stephen Davis, and an occasional hook-up from Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith. The Eagles have proven to be susceptible to the run (Ahman Green, Deuce McAllister), but have managed to win those games anyway. The Eagles look to run the ball with their three-headed running back attack, and then spread the ball around with short passes. Projections: QB: McNabb will be under pressure from the Carolina pass rush and will not have a great day. He may have some success scrambling. McNabb: 21-30-235 yards, 1 TD, 1 Fumble, 6 carries-73 yards RB: I'd look for Westbrook and Buckhalter to have the most success against the Panthers. They're quick and fast and can get to the corner. Staley will be used in the short passing game. Westbrook: 13 carries-60 yards, 1 TD, 3 catches-16 yards Buckhalter: 9 carries-33 yards, 2 catches-31 yards Staley: 5 carries-27 yards, 4 catches-39 yards, 1 TD WR: If McNabb can improvise a bit, he may find some of these guys on broken plays. Thrash: 3 catches-28 yards Pinkston: 1 catch-15 yards Mitchell: 2 catches-29 yards TE: Look for LJ Smith to grab a few more this week. Smith: 4 catches-59 yards Lewis: 2 catches-15 yards K: Akers should get some chances this week. Akers: 2-2 XP, 3-3 FG Def: They'll give up a ton of yards to Davis, but they should shut down the passing game and grab a couple turnovers. Def: 14 PA, 175 rush yards, 140 pass yards, 1 INT, 1 FR, 1 sack Final Score: Eagles 23 Panthers 14 Sorry for the brief analysis... it's a holiday weekend and I'm off... |

Actual: 18-26-182 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 carries-6 yards Not too surprised by the passing totals. I thought McNabb would be flushed from the pocket and would run a bit more, but he is looking for receivers first and running as a last resort. Quote:
Actual: Westbrook: 12 carries-64 yards, 5 catches-32 yards Buckhalter: 6 carries-30 yards Staley: 8 carries-24 yards, 1 TD, 1 catch-8 yards Pretty darn close on the rushing yardage projections. Westbrook didn't make it to the endzone this week, giving his TD to a WR instead. Still a very effective RBBC that confounds NFL coaches AND fantasy owners. Quote:
Actual: Thrash: 3 catches-27 yards, 1 TD Pinkston: 1 catch-15 yards Mitchell: 3 catches-40 yards Add the Thrash and Pinkston projections to the RB projections and I'm scaring myself a bit. Thrash grabbed a TD when the Panthers pushed him in, otherwise one of the RBs is getting that one. Mitchell grabbed one more pass than I expected. Quote:
Actual: Smith: 1 catch-15 yards Lewis: 1 catch-29 yards The TEs were kept in to help block more this week. Both of them had important catches to keep drives alive. Quote:
Actual: 1-1 XP, 4-4 FG One less XP and one more FG. Better for the Akers owners that way... The difference a kicker can make. Ask John Kasay who missed 3 FGs and 1 XP. Quote:
Actual: 16 PA, 136 rush yards, 216 pass yards, 1 FR, 2 sacks The defense did a decent job against the run, in light of their recent performances. The Panthers had better stats than the Eagles in just about every category, but still lost. The Eagles defense seems to do just enough to keep the other teams from scoring. Quote:
Actual: Eagles 25 Panthers 16 |
