Title: Patriots ~ Week 15 Analysis
Post by bakes781 on Dec 11th, 2003, 4:55pm
The New England Patriots have played four consecutive home games without giving up a touchdown, tying a record set in 1938 by the New York Giants.  That team went on to become World Champions.  Hopefully history repeats itself in the 2003 Pats. [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif] New England is widely respected for their opportunistic defense.  With rookie QB Byron Leftwich coming into a very cold & wet Gilette Stadium that will be the theme yet again.  No doubt Belichick has a game plan that will be focused on  [smiley=uh.gif] the youngster.  The only hope for Jacksonville offensively is the threat of an effective Fred Taylor.  If the Pats can jump out to a lead there is absolutely no chance for a [smiley=pussycat.gif] upset.  However, each week the Jags are getting stronger defensively.  Especially against the run(2nd best overall).  Fortunately for the Pats, a strong running attack isn't their game.  With Troy Brown still questionable Deion Branch is likely gonna have to be the man once again.

Patriots Statistical Breakdown:

Tom Brady ~ 250 yards passing, 1 td & 1 int
Kevin Faulk ~ 40 yards rush, 60 receiving
Antowain Smith ~ 20 yards rushing
Deion Branch ~ 100 yards receiving
David Givens ~ 40 yards receiving & 1 TD
Dedric Ward ~ 20 yards receiving
Christian Fauria ~ 10 yards receiving
Daniel Graham ~ 20 yards receiving
Adam Vinatieri ~ 3 FGs & 1 PAT(1st a new holder & now a new snapper yikes)

Jaguars Statistical Breakdown:

Byron Leftwich ~ 100 yards pass, 0 TDs & 3 INTs
LaBrandon Toefield ~ 10 yards rush, 10 yards rec
Fred Taylor ~ 80 yards rushing
Kevin Johnson ~ 30 yards receiving
Jimmy Smith ~ 30 yards receiving
Troy Edwards ~ 10 yards receiving
Cortez Hankton ~ 10 yards receiving
Kyle Brady ~ 10 yards receiving
Seth Marler ~ 1 FG & 0 PATs

FINAL SCORE
PATS16
JAGS3

The game should be over early, but the Pats have been known to play to the level of their competition.  The score won't reflect it, but New England should be in control of this one from start to finish.

Byron Leftwich looked pretty good against a decent Tampa Bay defense a couple weeks ago.  I think he'll be tougher to rattle than you might expect, especially now that he has some decent weapons on offense.  Regardless, I like NE to win this week, probably on the order of 27-16.

yeah I agree.  Pats win this one, but Del Rio (one of my favorite exVikes) has an improving D, and Leftwich is proving he was worth the #7 pick.  I don't think they'll be held to 3.

Pats - 19
Jags - 13

Captain Purple had the Jags score. lol

The game went prett much according to plan.  Pats jumped out to an early lead.  This effectively took away Fred Taylor.  Jag's OL was outstanding.  Giving Leftwich time to look down field much of the game.  The NE secondary brought it's A game on Sunday.  Other than 1 missed assigment on a long gainer by J Smith the Jags were forced to throw short.  The bend but don't break D stood their ground at the goal line several times.  Brady had one of his best games of the season.  & Troy Brown's return was significant in sealing a victory mid way through the 4th quarter.
