This thread is a place to discuss how you faired this year with respect to players about which you had fairly strong convictions about going into the season.  Point out where you hit the nail on the head and were right on the mark as well as where you were way off the mark and slammed your thumb on the downswing.

Mine (which many of you will remember from last offseason/preseason)...

RB Jamal Lewis - I did all I could to trade for him; I said he would win the rushing title; he did.

WR Plaxico Burress - I said he was being WAY overrated; he was.

WR Koren Robinson - I said he was being quite overrated as well; he was, too.

RB Trung Canidate - I said he was being overrated; yup.

RB Priest Holmes - I have him in my keeper league; I said there was nothing to worry about all offseason; there wasn't.

RB Curtis Martin - I said he would bounce back and push Top 10.

RB Stacey Mack - I said he would suck; he did.

QB Kordell Stewart - I said he would suck, too; he too did.

RB Amos Zereoue - I said he was not the right back for that system and, at any rate, that his '02 numbers would be indicative of his '03 numbers.

RB William Green - I have always said I don't like this guy; what more needs to be said?

WR Derrick Mason - I said this guy is Top 15 eyes-closed.

QB Jake Plummer - This is more of a general NFL assessment as a Broncos fan regarding his being a perfect fit for the Broncos, referring to him as Mini-Elway when others were (prematurely at best, erroneously at worst) comparing him to Montana; I ALWAYS said he was the man to lead my Donkos; so far he appears to be.

RB Ahman Green - WAY off!  I said the Packers would really struggle this year, putting their rushing game in jeopardy.

WR Terrell Owens - I traded A LOT for him; I said he would have a HUGE season in his "contract" year; he layed an egg.

WR Marc Boerigter - I was one of those "believers" who said he would have a BIG-time breakout season; was this guy even activated at all this year?

RB Ricky Williams - I wasn't too strong about this conviction, but I did indicate that he would have a VERY solid season and contend for Top 3.

QB Rich Gannon - No, I was NOT one of the dudes who saw this bad of a fall coming for Gannon and the Raiders.

WR Jerry Rice - I said again and again that Jerry's good for his, 1,100 and 5 at least; he kind of got his, but on a team that couldn't get theirs.

RB Correll Buckhalter - I said, with the Staley holdout, he would seize the opportunity and take the reigns; yea, right!

There were some others that I felt strong about where my prediction came out somewhere in the middle:  QB Brad Johnson, QB Jeff Garcia, QB Tim Rattay, RB Jerome Bettis, RB Antowain Smith, WR Terry Glenn...

On the money...


  • Chad Johnson - I had this guy rated very highly and grabbed him in my money league.
  • Jamal Lewis - I knew he was going to have a huge year - maybe not 2000 yards - but big nonetheless.
  • Bills Defense - I hyped them early and, despite the failures of the offense, they performed well most of the season and were among league leaders in fewest points allowed.
  • Eddie George - I didn't think he was washed up, yet.  Next season could be his last.
  • Trent Green - Loved this guy!
  • Marshall Faulk - Knew he couldn't avoid injury.  Finished out of top 20 (in rush yards) this season.
  • Kurt Warner - He got a lot of hype, but I avoided this guy like the Bubonic.
  • Tiki Barber - I chuckled when people put his name in top-10 RB lists.
  • Jon Kitna and Carson Palmer - I predicted that Kitna would hold Palmer off all season.
  • Oakland offense - I debated ad nauseum that this team was too old with Gannon, Rice, and Brown.  None of the three did much this year.
  • Justin McCareins/Drew Bennett - I felt that McCareins would wind up with the #2 job behind Mason.


Way off-base...
  • Edgerrin James - He had a nice season, but I rated this guy as a top-5 back before the season.
  • Curtis Conway - Thought he could actually do something this year.
  • Ahman Green - I didn't draft him because I thought he would be hurt and GB offense would struggle this season.
  • Marc Boerigter - With only 20 catches last year (8 for TD), who'd have thought he would have even less catches (and no TDs) this year?
  • K-Rob - Figured, coming off last season, he was going to be the best 3rd-year WR in the league and a top 10 guy overall.
  • Drew Brees - With the weapons he has and the improvement he showed in 2002, I really thought he would take another step forward in 2003.

[smiley=bullseye.gif]Jamal Lewis - He was drafted relatively late in many fantasy drafts that I saw.  I felt he was completely healed from his injuries & would put up similar #s to his rookie season.  He surpassed those #s long ago.  

[smiley=doh.gif]Edgerrin James - Same feelings I had for Jamal I had for Edge.  Although he had a strong year it wasn't quite as good as I had predicted.

[smiley=doh.gif]Plaxico Burress - Very high on this guy.  For several reasons it just didn't pan out.  He had some nagging injuries early on.  He was also being taken out in the red zone which seemed foolish.    

[smiley=bullseye.gif]Chris Chambers - I knew he had the skills but wasn't certain if he'd get the opportunity to showcase them.  I drafted him as my 4th WR & he became a dependable #2 rather quickly.  

[smiley=doh.gif] [smiley=doh.gif] Drew Bledsoe - I thought even with the loss of Price that Buffalo could still be as solid offensively.  I felt that Josh Reed would step right in & they wouldn't miss a beat.  It didn't take long for my prediction to look idiotic.

[smiley=doh.gif] [smiley=doh.gif] [smiley=doh.gif]Kurt Warner - I felt he would make a strong comeback & lead the Rams like he did in the previous SB runs.  Well the Rams did return to being "the greatest show on turf" but it was under the leadership of Marc Bulger not Kurt.  

[smiley=doh.gif]Drew Brees - I felt he was ready to take over the offense & become a good fantasy backup.  His ineffective & often injured OL was a big reason for his struggles.  He was not helping his case by throwing into coverage & eventually got benched.  He was an obvious bust, however, after Flutie gave way to Brees he seemed to regain confidence & he utilized LT much more.  I wouldn't give up on him if I were the Chargers.

[smiley=bullseye.gif]Matt Hasselbeck - I had a feeling he would become a good fantasy backup.  The offense was loaded with talent & they had a very favorable schedule.  Hass soon took advantage of all these factors & was very consistent.  He ended the season as a top 5 fantasy QB.  He should have been selcted for the Pro Bowl.

[smiley=doh.gif]Priest Holmes - I figured that he would either get injured or at the very least been given less carries.  Needless to say I was dead wrong.

[smiley=bullseye.gif]Rich Gannon - I had him last year & he was great.  But this year I was pretty certain the age was going to catch up with him.  Losing Porter certainly didn't help matters in Raider Nation, but they were clearly not the same team of a year ago.

[smiley=bullseye.gif]Rod Smith - Age was starting to take over.  Ashley Lelie looked ready to step in as the go to guy.  No question it was a down year, but Rod's #s were not that terrible when you consider that Plummer was out for the middle part of the season.

[smiley=doh.gif]Fred Taylor - Injuries had plagued the RB every year for the past 3 or 4 seasons.  With the drafting of Toefield I was certain it was the end of an era in Jacksonville.  Well it was the end of an era at QB, but Taylor looked like the Taylor of 5 seasons ago.  

[smiley=bullseye.gif]Tommy Maddox - Even though I liked his WRs I thought that the nickname "Turnover Tommy" would be reborn & to some extent it was.  Alot of it wasn't his fault though.  There were numerous dropped balls.  

[smiley=doh.gif]Stephen Davis - Not high on any players that change teams.  Especially not when the team already has a quality young back in Foster.  I felt he'd be at best a goalline back.  Wrong!

 
On the whole I have never been as good at predicting a QBs success, as I have a RB & WR.  My $$$ league team did have the least INTs(5) though.

RB's
[smiley=shootmyself.gif] By far, my biggest mistake of the season was giving Tiki Barber more credit then he deserved. I figured the Giants would have a powerhouse offense and Barber would easily be a top 10 back... yeah right. To think I drafted him over Jamal Lewis and Ahman Green makes me sick.

[smiley=bullseye.gif]I was really high on Clinton Portis and would have drafted him #1 overall in my keeper league (too bad I had the 10th pick). Portis was everything I thought he'd be and could have been even better if not for a late season injury. This guy has a great future.

QB's
[smiley=shootmyself.gif] My biggest mistake at QB was Rich Gannon. I didn't think he'd match his numbers from the previous season, but still, I never saw this coming. The only good thing about that is the fact that he plays for the Raiders... talk about a pathetic season.

WR's
[smiley=shootmyself.gif] When I drafted Eric Moulds I figured I had a solid top 5 WR... wrong! He didn't even crack the top 30 in yards receiving and scored 1 lousy TD... thanks Eric.

[smiley=bullseye.gif]I knew I had a steal when I was able to grab Javon Walker with my last pick of the draft (22 rounds). He put up a whopping 9 TD's and his stellar play helped me trade for Michael Vick in my keeper league. (The jury is still out on that one...gulp!)

TE's
[smiley=shootmyself.gif] I was a big fan of Jeremy Shockey before the season began (that went right along with my Giants "powerhouse" offense theory). He put up solid yards receiving for the games he played, but he was far from worthy of the 4th round draft pick I wasted on him in the CBFL.
