Eddie George might be done with the Titans. His exorbitant salary will be too much for the Titans, who are a reported $19 million over the cap. Unless he agrees to a significant pay cut, look for Chris Brown to be the man next season.

I think Eddie will restructure for the team. I also think he will lose touches next year. He will not be sat on the bench. He still plays through pain and doesn't miss games.
He is no longer a stud, but will see the RBBC approach.

Larry Stone, of Titans Radio Network, reports Tennessee Titans RB Eddie George did not restructure his current contract as had been speculated. Titans general manager Floyd Reese said the team could live with George's $7 million cap number if necessary.

Rookie Bo Schobel (Jevon Kearse's replacement?) breaks his foot in practice.

The Titans defensive line took a hit when Robaire Smith and Jevon Kearse left via free agency. The Titans drafted three defensive ends and two defensive tackles to help make up for the loss, but Schobel (a pass-rushing end) getting injured will hurt a bit and put more pressure on rookies Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy.

Keep in mind that the Titans are strapped for cash. While James Stewart or Antowain Smith would certainly add some veteran experience to the team, their veteran minimum salaries are still fairly high.

I would not be surprised to see the Titans go to battle with Chris Brown, Robert Holcombe, Troy Fleming, and Jarrett Payton...

I agree with this position. I am actually confident that they will do just that. It is time for transition and changing of the guard in the backfield in Tennessee.

Is it just me or do the Titans seem to be perpetually banging their noggin' off the cap? [smiley=frustrated.gif]

They're obviously doing it right though, as the last 5 years they've gone 13-3, 13-3, 7-9, 11-5, 12-4.

Just an observation. Some teams go for broke, then rebuild, others seem tight against the cap for years and still manage to make the playoffs.

Well... didn't take long for the Titans to start looking for another running back. Antowain Smith has already visited the Titans. He visited before George was even officially released.

I think the Titans will sign a new starting running back. I do not believe they are sold on Chris Brown's durability.

In the mean time, look for George to end up with the Raiders. However, I would not be surprised if he ended up signing with the Eagles. Westbrook and he would split carries. They have plenty of cap and like the RBBC approach.

No word yet on what his expected role will be. I think it will be as insurance only. The job is Brown's to win or lose, and after that it may be Holcombe's before it is Smith's.

Sirmon tears knee ligaments, could miss season

The News
Titans' linebacker Peter Simon suffered torn ligaments in his left knee and could miss the entire season. Simon twisted the knee during practice Monday and says he knew immediately that the injury was serious. "It felt like something was definitely wrong when I first did it," Sirmon told an Associated Press reporter. "It felt like my knee kind of came apart." An MRI revealed that Sirmon tore his MCL. His ACL is not completely torn, but Sirmon would risk a complete tear if he plays on it without surgery.
