Title: Cardinals Off-Season Report Post by DirkDiggler on Feb 4th, 2004, 8:13pm Jeff Blake is released. McCown is named the starter for 2004. ? What a joke. He will start until their 2004 draft pick is ready to start in week 4 or 5. He sucks! I will give Dennis Green props for releasing Blake now. It gives him a chance to sign on with another team. Title: Re: Cardinals Off-Season Reprot Post by BarnabyWilde on Feb 4th, 2004, 8:19pm Nice grab DD. I wonder if Green really does believe in McNown, or if they will take big Ben in round one. Trading down is always an option, if Denny is for real. But I think you are correct, they'll draft a QB andhe start sooner rather than later. |

Title: Re: Cardinals Off-Season Report Post by StegRock on Mar 21st, 2004, 5:39pm Well, another Cardinals running back in domestic trouble. This is getting to be a trend. From "The REAL Feed": Cardinals RB Shipp under investigation The Sports Network: NFL (21.03.2004 13:47) Corroboration and further discussion from a LOCAL source on "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/0321shipp0321.html. Maybe Emmitt will see the ball more this year than has been expected... Naaaaaa! ;) |

Title: Re: Cardinals Off-Season Report Post by StegRock on Jun 9th, 2004, 12:56pm Given all the uncertainty here,... I just think it is worth mentioning... From "The REAL Feed": Stanford QB Lewis signs with Cardinals SI.com: NFL (09.06.2004 01:35) Here is the press release from the official site available on "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.azcardinals.com/press/pressdetails.php?sid=1989. You never know how things might shake out in Cardinal-land. This guy might just wind up being a factor. [smiley=shrug.gif] |

I seriously doubt it. Maybe I'm being cynical here, but the way I see it, McCown is #1, King is #2 (in case McCown isn't the guy the Sheriff says he is), and Navarre is the #3. Chris Lewis didn't get a sniff from anyone up until now. Interestingly, he is a Stanford player. Now the Cards released their #4 QB a week ago. They'll have a spot on their practice squad for a rookie QB. Denny Green probably still knows people at Stanford... Looks like a favor to me more than anything else. I'd be very surprised it Lewis isn't placed on the practice squad for the 2004 season. |

This is a joke. No way that he starts the season. Marcell Shipp has too much to bring, while Emmitt's tank has run out. |

I think it is probably just a motivational tool to light a fire under Marcel Shipp. I doubt it will last very long. |

Title: Re: Cardinals Off-Season Report Post by Callie on Aug 7th, 2004, 1:32am Aug 7, 12:47 AM (ET) FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona Cardinals running back Marcel Shipp will be sidelined at least two months after dislocating his left ankle during an intrasquad scrimmage Friday night. Shipp got caught underneath a pile during a routine running play and got his left leg wrenched in the artificial turf at Northern Arizona University's Skydome. After several minutes on the turf, Shipp was loaded on a cart and led off the field. The injury was not as bad as it initially appeared to be, Cardinals coach Dennis Green said. "It did not break through the skin, which means it probably does not need an operation," Green said. Shipp led the Cardinals with 830 yards rushing last year, including games of 165 and 141 yards. "He took a bad spill and it don't look good right now," Emmitt Smith said of Shipp. "But he's young and resilient and he's in great shape. "I've been on football fields for a long time and I've seen some bad things happen, but not many to people I've been close to. The kid is a like a brother to me. Watching him go down is like watching a brother go down. It hurts." |

Guess again Denny... http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/04cardscamp/0808cardsnb0808.html Now there is some thought that Shipp could miss the entire season. He has a fracture that will require pins to be placed in his fibula. Plus he dislocated his ankle too. Looks like Emmitt will get a chance to start and right now it appears that Josh Scobey and Damien Anderson will back him up. The article also mentions that Larry Croom (an undrafted Rookie FA) has looked good in camp. He was a very good college RB who could be a sleeper if things work out for him. |

Additionally, the Cards signed two Cowboy reject RBs today, Avion Cason and a guy who was on Dallas' practice squad named Smith. ?.?.? ?.?.? I don't know what to make of this Cardinals running back situation. I guess they don't like Scobey or Anderson. It is very bizarre IMO. :-/ |
