HOT off "The REAL Feed", this piece looked like the perfect one to kick off a T.O. thread, which we will definitely need, with:

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3046342.htm.

Great read!  Points out a lot of aspects to the situation and discusses possible destinations.  ENJOY and let's discuss and keep this sucker updated!

Im in a dynasty league and t.o. is on the trading block becuase his owner is over the cap.He wants my 1st rd pick which is #2 overall and jimmy smith. I my self have plenty of cap room to sign my 1st rd pick. should I make the trade or keep the pick and go for larry fitzgerald?

I would hold out before making any deals.  I would see where Owens and Fitzgerald end up going first, at least.  Actually, only if Owens ends up somewhere where he is auspiciously set up, like Atlanta, Philadelphia or Tampa Bay, or San Francisco for that matter, AND Fitzgerald goes somewhere rather shitty where he'd be entrenched in a potential quagmire at least for a bit, like Oakland, would I perhaps do that deal.  That's a pretty steep price, though, for a guy coming off the type of season Owens is, not to mention it was a contract year when he should have strut his stuff, and no less considering the uncertainty of his destination and how well he will make the transition or fit the new system.  This is all coming from a fellow Owens owner (in the GBRFL). :-/

Terrell will officially be a free agent.  There was talk out there that he might get tagged.  But no, the 49ers tagged LB Peterson instead.

Where will he land? Baltimore has the most money....  Eagles have the biggest need....  and he T.O. like Miami....

Wow.....Terrell is stuck another 3 years with the 49ers.  Major news.  Definitely changes the scope of free ageny AND the draft!!!

First Northcutt, and now Terrell. UNBELIEVABLE that agents could screw the players this bad.

This is unbelievable.  I'd fire my agent and sue him if I was TO.

So, let me understand this.  Since the proper paperwork was not filed, TO still has 3 years remaining on his contract, and if the 49ers want to trade him, the trade partner would have to take on his current contract?

This certainly changes things.  I think teams may have been more likely to go after TO as a free agent, but now that they'll have to give something up to get him...?  I don't know...  Wouldn't it be funny if he ended up in SF again (and Garcia agreed to restructure his contract to stay)?   [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif]

This will give us great stuff to talk about for sure. SF has the upper hand now of course. Maybe now they can deal him to Oak for Woodson and Rice... HA!!!!
My question is how much will TO count against the cap this year??? This may backfire on SF, and TO may have done it to screw them. They have to cut/redo some deals to fit both Garcia and him under the cap. I don't think he is that smart myself, but now SF who was planning on his $5+MIL cap/salary hit this year to be gone will have to find it before March 3rd. Maybe he did it to push Garcia out and he wins both ways?? I doubt it, could be wrong though.
This is good for Stegey though who has Rattay and Owens on his team.

I love a good conspiracy theory!  Anyway, I was wondering the same thing about the cap hit.  It does put SF into a sticky situation.  They franchised Julian Peterson, so they're locked into a top 5 salary with him.  And they gave Barlow a new contract.  So this could really force their hand with Garcia.

T.O. will be a free agent.  The NFL will rule in favor of T.O. and he will be free or the 49ers will cut him making him a free agent.  He will not be on the 49ers next year.  They cannot afford him and they do not want him.  Bill Walsh bashed him on a radio show saying, in effect, that he wasn't worth the money he wants.

I will agree with the concensus and say he will end up in Baltimore.  I also will predict that his partner, Tai Streets will end up in Philly.

I don't think it is an issue the NFL can address.  He has a contract and there were certain requirements and obligations made that were not fulfilled.  I can't imagine the NFL would get involved in this - it would open too big a can of worms if they told TO and the Niners they could ignore the contract.  I'm not sure the Niners can just cut him either - I'm not sure how that would affect their cap.  I think they'll HAVE to trade him--even if it is for a seventh-round draft choice.

I hope Tai Streets doesn't become an Eagle.  Not that I like what they currently have, but Tai Streets isn't much better.  Please give me Justin McCareins.

New Rumor:

Owens and his agent missed the Feb. 21st deadline to void the rest of his contract.  However, TO's original contract gave him until the final day of the 2003 league year to get it done.  The final day of the league year is tomorrow, March 2nd.  But...in their collective bargaining agreement with the players' union, the league put in a ten-day rule.  That made TO's deadline February 21st.  Can they do that?  Can they change the terms of a contract after the fact?  Just void a legal contract because they want to?

Veteran free agency starts March 3rd.  Guess they'd better move on this.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-owens0304,0,5408452.story?coll=bal-sports-football.

Let me just add, as someone with Terrell Owens on my GBRFL (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/) team, this may not seem like a good place for Owens to have gone, but remember that M. Rob and Taylor put up some good numbers in that weak passing offense last year AND Billick has been biting at the bit to get his Minnesota-style vertical game goin'.  Just some food for thought... [smiley=spchef.gif]

Title: Re: Terrell Owens tracker

Great deal for Balt, terrible deal for TO owners. Balt is a run oriented team. Although CAR managed to have a solid passing game with a run oriented team too.
I think it will drop Owens value from #3-4 to 7-10, and his production as well.
I agree with Stegey that Billick has coveted a WR so that he can go to the deep passing game. Owens willl improve the passing attack overall. as far as Taylor and Robinson fab stats last year: you are correct:
1083 yds and 9 Tds...Holy cow...THAT WAS COMBINED!!!!!!!!!!
Owens should do that on his own.
This move actually hurts both JLew and Owens in 1 feld swoop. The major benefactor here is probably Heap looking at it.
I wish MIA would have pid that price. He is a steal for a 2nd rounder.
Maybe Minny will trade Moss for a 2nd rounder and a dogsled team.  [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif]

I mispelled T.O's last name. Oops.
My only motivation would be to try to deal Lewis, which i started when I found out about his drug arrest. I still plan on keeping T.O., but expect lower #s this year. I may deal him if I got a young WR with good upside. He is 30 isn't he? He still has 3-4 more solid years. I'm guessing that most cheatsheets next year will have lowered JLew and Owens on their lists.
I still like both guys, but how can anybody not say that their stock hasn't dropped.
Balt has proved nothing at the QB position, except that the play needs to be better.

Philly claims they had a deal with TO and the 9ers.

Now, it looks like the Players Union may file a grievance.  I know this is reported by newspapers and biased ones at that, BUT... If TO really wants to be an Eagle I think he may have a case based on the fact that the contract should override the CBA admendment.  AND, if that is the case, San Fran may end up with nothing!  I guess time will tell....

This thing just keeps getting uglier. I hope it is settled soon. He ruins the rest of free agency for the rest of the league. He has single hadidly overshadowed all of free agency: Portis/Bailey, Moss rumors, all signings seem miniscue do to the attention this whole thing is getting.

This guy is a stud, but it is alway about him. SHUT UP AND JUST DO YOUR JOB. You made your bed, no lie in it. He will improve any tem he goes to, but as we all knew with this playmaker...there is baggage. Do you think this will affect his relationship with Ray Lewis.
Billick said the other day in his press conference that verything was cool. He said Ray and some other players were cool with him and he was cool with going to the Ravens. What does this say now? Is he getting cold feet? I like this guy, he produces, but man I'm just getting tired of this stuff. Kinda like Keysahwn and Jeff George, you just get tired of always hearing about this stuff.
1 thing is for sure, he always gets the press to talk about him.

I think, ultimately, that this is about TO wanting to play for a winner.  Who would you rather have throwing the ball to you, Donovan McNabb or Kyle Boller?  No offense to Boller, but he didn't show much in his limited action as a rookie.

Of course there are other issues as well.  The Ravens (assuming Jamal Lewis is still their RB) are a run-based team and TO will have a much more difficult time achieving incentives and the like as well.

Regardless, I am VERY surprised that the Eagles showed any interest in TO at all.  He seems to be the exact opposite of the type of player that Andy Reid wants on his team.  Since McCareins (the guy I wanted) is gone, I wouldn't mind seeing TO in Eagle green.

Owens also issued a statement that he does not see himself playing for the Ravens. "So that there is no misunderstanding, regardless of what happens with the grievance, under the present circumstances I do not see myself playing for the Ravens," Owens said. "I can assure everyone that I will continue to keep fighting for my right to play for the team of my choice even after the grievance ... I simply want to be able to exercise my right to play for a team of my choosing under a deal that is fair to me and my family." The Ravens hope the situation will be done by Friday, March 12, and have said they're willing to rework his contract to bring his salary in line with other top receivers.

Donovan McNabb does not have arm strength???  You're joking, right?  I haven't seen too many wounded ducks from Donovan.  I HAVE seen a number of off-target ducks.  He is not very accurate, especially in the short-passing game.

Donovan McNabb's biggest problem in the passing game is his lack of confidence in his receivers and his desire to avoid turnovers.

His receivers have a difficult time creating any separation from the defenders, and if they appear covered, Donovan does not want to force a ball into the coverage for fear of it being picked off.  So he'll throw it where the defender can't get to it -- frequently at the feet of his own receiver.

But to say that McNabb doesn't have a strong arm is ridiculous.

Anyway, I think that McNabb will have better numbers than he has in the past merely because he has a WR that other teams will have to take seriously.  This will open up the middle of the field for LJ Smith and also make Brian Westbrook a very dangerous player.  Who knows, Todd Pinkston might even have better numbers than last year.

Agreed, Philster.  Donovan's problem surely is NOT his ability to throw the long ball.  He can heave it far (and sometimes a bit wide ;) , but they are not "ducks", so to speak).  It's his accuracy on short and short, mid-range passes that's "his fault" (in both senses of the phrase, kind of).  There are no two ways about it that Owens will improve McNabb and probably the Eagles overall, as long as he stays "in line".  The more important question from a fantasy perspective is...  Will McNabb improve Owens, at least over last year?

Anyway, here is another corroborating report from "The REAL Feed":

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Philadelphia! [smiley=stpat.gif] That green must have given you good luck! [smiley=shamrock.gif] Like that beer commercial says, "Let's celebrate St. Patrick's Day like it was a real holiday," in the case of the commercial and this case, Christmas, surely! I think the Eagles will be able to keep TO in line to some extent.  He really wants to play with Donovan and should respect him enough not to call him out when Donovan throws a couple at his feet or over his head.

Also, apparently TO and Marty Morninhweg (sp?) have a very good relationship dating back to Marty's days with the Niners.

What people should realize, however, is that the Eagles offense won't change drastically because of TO.  It should run much more efficiently, but it will still look to utilize TEs and RBs in the passing game and to spread the ball around.  I wouldn't expect to see numbers too much different than the ones he had (in a down year) with SF last season.

Not that I disagree with your overall assessment, but I don't see that making... keeping Terrell happy.  He wants the ball... often!

From "the Gridiron Newsstand", here's an article that very eloquently, articulately, thoroughly and entertainingly captures what my point is in the post above:

Hey, Philly.  I hear that as a part of all this dealing for TO's new home, trading Whiting in the mix clears cap space for the Eagles with no penalty.  Useful after the Kearse deal and the DE mix after.  Too many.  Any insights?

Unlike most of you guys, I like Owens a lot.  Just compartmentalize, Baby.  I think he'll have a lot of incentive to prove his point and have a tremendous season in 2004.  He has all off-season to get acquainted with McNabb.

I would have loved to see TO cross the Bay Bridge instead of the whole country.  But I always liked the Eagles and look forward to a very serious Eagles' Superbowl run to come.Could happen! :D :D :D

As for the fans, the guys in Philly like guys like TO.  Every Eagles fan I've talked to is very, very happy today.

Funny TO cartoon link I just ran into.
Probably should be at least PG 13, maybe 18, whatever...

The key word there, Callie, is "today"... as per the article I linked to at the bottom of page 2 of this thread.

Look, I've got Owens in the GBRFL and am hoping for the best. [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif] I just think that there is a latent "reality" (read, very real potential for problems... disaster related to the predispositions of the respective "players" involved in this) here that cannot be ignored.  That's all! [smiley=shrug.gif]

That said, GO TERRELL! ;)

I'm not sure the numbers, but Brandon Whiting leaving doesn't clear a whole lot of cap space, but every bit helps.  Whiting was probably going to get lost in the DL shuffle a bit anyway this season.  He is valuable in that he can play DE and DT, but (assuming the players stay healthy) the Eagles have a logjam at DL now.  Kearse and McDougle should start at DE (with Burgess, Kalu, and Green in the rotation) and Simon and Walker at DT (with Thomas, Grasmanis, and Rayburn getting time too).  Plus the Eagles may grab a DT in the draft since there is so much depth there.

I think TO is a very good WR.  But many the games I have watched over the better part of last year, (when I had Garcia in the Starting Lineup) he was prone to some drops, but I think that is directly related to the fact that he wasn't thrown to early on in the game.

Can't wait to see the Ravens/Eagles game in the Linc.

The pre-heat stuff was very interesting. Sounds like the Eagles' organization feels Reid can handle TO. And it sounds like they were salivating from the second they heard that TO wanted to go to the Eagles. McNabb can't scramble and run forever. Now they feel they have a whole lot of options. And a very good option in the Red Zone. Still waiting for TO in the press conference. Should be very well worth the wait.

TO is in the building....

BTW, thanks Philly!  I'm weak on a lot of D things.  Need all the help I can get!

If you're still watching, TO is about to do the press conference.

Andy Reid says he believes in exploiting a player's talents, in the sense that if the ball goes to TO more, it goes there.  He even expressed his belief that TO's work ethic is better than Jerry Rice's.  Wow.  TO says it's a new start, a new rap sheet.

Yea, I know.  But Owens also says he just wants to win.  Sorry if it seems too TO, but this is why we love the game.  Remember the change in Moss.[offtopic] [/offtopic]

Hey, Philly.  Just heard that the Owens number 81 jerseys are available and flying off the shelfs!

I caught the whole TO press conference on the radio while driving home on an icy Rt. 295 coming home from work.

Sounds like everyone said the right things (except for Big Red mis-pronouncing Terrell's name).

I haven't ordered my TO jersey yet.  I'm more of a defensive guy anyway, so I'll have to get the Jevon jersey.
