Title: Jeff Garcia tracker
Post by StegRock on Mar 6th, 2004, 10:44pm
Okay, it's finally time to start this thread...  We already know that Cleveland is entertaining Garcia:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;action=display;num=1065473275;start=25.

Now, get a load of this from "The REAL Feed":

Falcons come to terms with DT Coleman, talk with QB Garcia
NFL.com (06.03.2004 20:50)
Former Oakland defensive tackle Rod Coleman agreed to a six-year deal with Atlanta, which also met with Jeff Garcia about becoming Michael Vick's backup.

I think this would be a great move for Atlanta.  They clearly can't go with Doug Johnson or Kurt Kittner as back-ups.  Garcia is too injury-prone to be a full-time starter, but would be an excellent #2 guy.  This makes a lot of sense.

I know that Garcia can still be a starter in this league. He will be a starter somewhere. He does not want to be a backup.
He easily could start for CLE, ARI, SD, BALT..haha...j/k, MIA, or even Dallas. I don't think all those teams could afford him, but he will be a starter somwhere. I hope so anyway. He still has a few solid years left in the tank.

Yeah, this makes great sense. 2 injury prone QBs(1 according to Philly), the other according to his track record, playing for the same team!

Cleveland has made an offer to Garcia.  THe offer is more than what they offered Couch.  (no time for links, sorry!)

I figured this would happen.  My two other predictions are that Henson signs with Cleveland and that Couch ends up in Dallas.

I got ya covered, DD!  HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand"...

Big news! Lots of ramifications!  What an offseason, thus far! [smiley=yes.gif]

Well, according to one mass-media source and numerous LOCAL sources on "the Gridiron Newsstand", Tampa's now sniffin' around, too:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/football/nfl/03/08/garcia.bucs/index.html;

http://bucs.tbo.com/bucs/MGAG7R1ZJRD.html;

http://www.sptimes.com/2004/03/08/Bucs/QB_Garcia_in_Tampa_fo.shtml;

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/football/pro/buccaneers/orl-spt-bucs030804,1,4386569.story?coll=orl-bucs.

Stranger things surely have happened, but I wouldn't believe the hype this time.  Time will tell, though.

Here is how ESPN is reporting things...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1753940.

Quite a bit more "tempered" and "realistic" vis-a-vis the hype coming out of CNN/SI and the local dailies covering the Bucs.

From what I've read, it seems pretty certain that Garcia is heading to Tampa.  I know this must be shocking news to certain Brad Johnson owners (hmm, wonder who that could be...), but the CNN/SI piece seems to have more corroboration than the ESPN piece.  If Dad says he's headed to Tampa, then I believe he is headed to Tampa.

This is a great fit for both teams. Garcia will do a great job there. Like I said in teh above post he still has a few good years left in the tank. By the time Simms is ready to take over, Garcia's deal will be up. Garcia is an upgrade over Brad IMO. Also he has the mobility that Gruden wants.
Too bad for Brad Johnson. I'm guess he will be taking a paycut or asked to be released outright. I hope that TB keeps Brad too. Maybe Brad will go to CLE or Dallas now???
Maybe this will encourage Galloway to quit being a dickhead and just go to TB.

I'll believe it when I see it...  Off "The REAL Feed" this evening:

Report: Browns offer Garcia contract

Didn't Barry Sanders's dad say he was comin' back along the way? [smiley=pullleeeeeeeze.gif]

Face it Steg... you're just a nervous Brad Johnson owner.   ;)

Well, ESPN, available on "the Gridiron Newsstand" might I add ;) , is, alas, finally reporting about "DAD's" VERY suspect proclamation:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1753940.

Still, they did their homework and do not blow this "rumor" started by daddy out of proportion.  They indicate that no deal with Tampa is imminent.  In other words, to those that are writing this in stone... [smiley=pullleeeeeeeze.gif] ... ::)

I think he would be a better fit in TB, but could still end up in CLE, but i doubt it. He wants a ring and CLE is too far away.
The offer from CLE is a 2 yr deal for $8M with a $4-5M bonus included. I heard Jeff wanted a 3-4 year deal and a decent signing bonus$4-5M. I hope he gets what he deserves. I wish that MIA would have gone for him.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Just got this off the Kfflhotwire:
"The Gilroy Dispatch reports free agent QB Jeff Garcia (49ers) is headed to Tampa Bay to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His signing is expected to be announced at a press conference later this week and is slated to land a three- or four-year deal worth between $15 million and $20 million according to his father, Bobby Garcia. "He's going to Florida," said Garcia's father. "This is a fresh start. He's going in there with guns drawn, fully loaded. He's going to give it his best shot. He said, 'Dad, I'm totally committed now. This is a new step in my life.' " The Buccaneers, as of Monday, March 8, would not confirm or deny the deal and a spokesman for the Buccaneers said no press conference has been scheduled."

His dad is not Jeff, but this is the $ and time span he is lookng for. It looks like it is more of a done deal than some guys thought.

Here's the link to the article, the source for which is available on "the Gridiron Newsstand", that DF is quoting above by way of KFFL:

IT'S A LOT OF HYPE if you ask me! [smiley=shrug.gif]

Looks like Stegey was right about that up and coming stud Kelly Holcolm. OOPS, no he didn't. [smiley=laugh.gif]

Anyway, straight from the Gridiron news feed:

Garcia has agreed in principle to go to the Browns.
Good for you Jeff!! You are worth every penny.
Now that this is over we can get back to the most important story... The Terrell Owens SAGA

Screw you, Joe!  That's what you decide to bring up in this post.  I got it right here and you point that BS out.  Like the Couch supporters were right, right?  Both sides of that debate were wrong.  So, you would have had me comin' and goin', anyway.  If I had been a Couch supporter, you would have said, "Steggie was right about Couch.  Oops, no he wasn't!"  Anyway, ultimately, that was a different debate, assweed.  That was strictly a Couch-versus-Holcomb debate, period.  I can already imagine the really condescending, patronizing and passive-aggressive response I'll get.

Just to bring this back around to the fact of the matter...  From "The REAL Feed":

GARCIA AGREES BROWNS DEAL
Sporting Life: NFL (09.03.2004 06:55)
Jeff Garcia has reportedly agreed a four-year deal with Cleveland worth US$25million.

Gone to the Dawgs: Browns, QB Garcia agree to deal
NFL.com (09.03.2004 10:32)
Former 49ers QB Jeff Garcia has signed a four-year deal with Cleveland, likely spelling the end of the Tim Couch era.

Browns get off the couch, ink Garcia

Nice work Steg.  I honestly believed that the Browns were going to pursue Roethlisberger and that Garcia was going to wind up in TB.  Garcia and his old man certainly dangled that carrot in front of us...

I still wonder if this will really help the Browns.  Garcia is injury-prone, weak-armed, and too nervous in the pocket in my opinion.

Now it looks like the Browns will look to upgrade their offensive line through the draft (move up to grab Gallery) or sit tight and grab Shawn Andrews or they could even trade down and get Jacob Rogers or Nat Dorsey.
