Title: QB's Collins, Couch and Warner and now Gannon Post by StegRock on Apr 27th, 2004, 4:03am Well, it seems as though it is a foregone conclusion that all three of these guys, all of whom had such high hopes not too long ago, will not be returning to their respective current clubs in '04. They will probably all be cut on June 1st. [smiley=nono.gif] ... [smiley=itllbeok.gif] So, where will each of them wind up and at what capacity? Before giving my thoughts and tainting the pool right off the bat, I am going to let you guys have first crack! All three of these guys could surely muddy the waters of not a few teams' QB depth charts. [smiley=hmmmm.gif] ... [smiley=goodrevil.gif] |

Title: Re: QB's Collins, Couch and Warner... Post by Philly on Apr 27th, 2004, 6:31am Here's a thought to ponder... Kurt Warner to the Giants. He'll sign for far less than Collins is currently demanding and it will give Eli some time and less pressure under the scrutiny of the New York fandom and media. |

Kurt had the worst game of his career against the G-men. Do you really think that will go over well in NY? If I had to guess I would say Dallas could be his next destination. Parcells worked with a similar QB in New England, named Bledsoe. As for Collins, I've heard AZ is the 1st team to have shown interest. And Tim Couch may be traded to GB to possibly be given a chance as Brett's future replacement. |

It was one game... I'm sure the team won't focus on that game during the press conference announcing his arrival. They'd probably bring up things like Super Bowl wins and MVP trophies. Besides, the team already has players questioning the team's intentions for the 2004 season. The players figured with a couple O linemen and some key defensive players, they would be playoff contenders in 2004. Now the prospect of starting a rookie QB indicates rebuilding. Quote:
I too heard Arizona for Collins. I also heard San Diego, but can't recall whether that was pre- or post-draft. The talks of Couch to Green Bay have certainly cooled off, but I still think it must be in the works. The Pack did not draft a QB, so it makes sense for them to continue to try to work a trade or wait for Couch to be released. |

Title: Re: QB's Collins, Couch and Warner... Post by BarnabyWilde on Apr 27th, 2004, 4:08pm I heard mention of a Fassel-Collins reunion in Baltimore, I think on ESPN. I also heard Warner's name mentioned going to the Giants. I'd be all for that. They have all the weapons in place for him, and several new Offensive linemen. Manning would have a great tutor. |

Title: Re: QB's Collins, Couch and Warner... Post by StegRock on Apr 28th, 2004, 3:43pm I'm not going to give very elaborate arguments for these as most of it is just what my gut tells me. Note, the teams are listed in order of likelihood as I "see" it: Collins - Ravens (immediately to back up and push Boller, but eventually perhaps replacing him and becoming a stopgap), Buccaneers (thrown into the mix, likely to be groomed to be the immediate backup to Johnson), Raiders (at first to back up Gannon, but eventually maybe to take over), Bears (at first at least to back up and push Grossman), Saints (in the immediacy to back up and PUSH Brooks, whose leadership capabilities are in question big-time and who has been VERY disappointing over the last couple years, and maybe then taking over), Dolphins (thrown into the mix with a decent chance of coming out on top), Browns (to back up Garcia). Couch (who, actually, oddly and sadly, I "feel" will have the fewest options of the three) - Packers (going with the rumors here, which do make some sense, of his being groomed behind Favre), Cowboys (thrown into the mix and could very well come out on top), Broncos (to back up Jake), Browns (yes, back to his old team to once again be groomed, this time behind Garcia, someone he can really and truly learn from). Warner (the guy I "feel", for whatever reason, will have the most options of the three) - Chiefs (back with Vermeil as the perfect guy to back up Green and with the right coach to persuade him), Cardinals (I don't care what Denny Green says about McCown at this point, he would love to have Warner hawkin' the ball up for his team to Boldin and Fitzgerald), Cowboys (ditto above), Buccaneers (ditto above), Broncos (ditto above), Ravens (Billick's wet dream, has a better chance to start from the get-go over Boller than Collins), Raiders (ditto above), Dolphins (ditto above), Saints (ditto above), Giants (to start over Manning in the very beginning). That's my take! I hope it is a worthy contribution to the discussion and helps you wrap your mind around the situations. [smiley=shrug.gif] |

For what it's worth, Vermeil has already stated that there is no chance that he'd bring Warner to the Chiefs. He'd have to be the third QB and the Chiefs can't afford to pay for Warner as a third QB. Plus I can't imagine Trent Green's psyche was boosted when he was injured in STL and lost his job because of it. Bringing Warner into KC would just put that spectre over things again. Even if it is nothing more than a spectre, I doubt Vermeil would want to take that chance with a team that needs to move forward. |

Title: Re: QB's Collins, Couch and Warner... Post by DOLFAN on May 23rd, 2004, 5:44pm WOW. I got this one wrong guys. I said that Gannon would not be cut/replaced. What does this say about all those backup QBs in OAK. I guess they don't have confidence in those guys. I personally think this is a huge mistake for the Raiders. Gannon was the MVP 2 years ago. My how the times change. Looks like Gannon may go to Baltimore now, or maybe all those rumors about TB will come true. Who te hell knows. I also think too many teams are going with unproven young QBs. Gannon and Warner will end up on some team and being very productive this year. Oh well, as if Boston and Boldin were not enough, now Gannon, just not my year WEll, boys at least I still have Favre...OR IS HE NEXT???? |

Title: Re: QB's Collins, Couch and Warner... Post by KillerKingSting on May 23rd, 2004, 6:37pm No way Farve is next for the waivers wire nor should he be compared to Collins , Warner, Couch or Gannon. Niether of those QBs were productive last year or at least, no where near productive as Farve was and will continue to be. As for Collins, I like the move. He has astronger arm than Gannon which helps with the theme the raiders want to go for on offense (w/ Norv as their new HC) which is Norv's "MO" - power running game mixed w/ a vertical passing game. There is no guarantee that a 40yr old QB will come back from a season ending shoulder injury and the Raiders can not afford to go w/ their backups as they did last again. Also I read that Gannon would not take a pay cut. Just my 2 cents :D |

Quite the contrary, I said that Thrash would not have a good year. I thought that Pinkston would have a better year than the year before...which was 700 yds and 7 TDs in 2002...575yds, 2 TDs(I screwed the pooch on that one), but not Thrash. Its rather pathetic when your best WRs(stat wise) got less than 600 yds and only 2 TDs, but he did average 16 yards per catch on only 36 catches. Andy Reid can ruin a WR from a fantasy pespective. This will change this year with T.O., but Owens' stock is falling hard. Mcnabb has never thrown that many TDs anyway. Mcnabb could have a banner yr, but Owens's stats will fall, how much I don't know, but they will fall. |
