Title: Trade
Post by KillerKingSting on May 3rd, 2004, 11:30pm
0.1 pts per yard. 1 pt per catch. 6 pt TDs w/ distance scoring bonuses of up to 4.5 pts.
Also bonuses for 100 yd rush/rec and 50 yards thereafter.
For defense = 12 pt sacks, 2 pt solo tackles, 1 pt assist tackles, 2 pt pass def, 6 pt turnover recovery, 4 pt force fum.

My WRs include = Holt (hehehehe I gots him in a steal deal babe-bee), Chad J., Plax, Donte Stallworth & Ash.

My DL includes = Freeney, J.Abraham, KGB, Darren Howard & Courtney Brown.

The trade is for me to give up KGB and in return get a 2nd round rookie draft pick (#16 overall) plus also Charlie Rogers OR Andre Johnson.

Must start 3 WRs & 3 DL.

Also, I have NO 2nd round rookie pick BUT I do have the 1.3 & 1.5 rookie pick.

Would you guys do the trade??

For those of you not familiar w/ DL-men, they are similiar in depth-value as is a RB in FF which mandates you start 2 RBs. Meaning they are valuable.

I could defnitely use an upgrade at #3 wideout but, there probably isn't a DLman in the draft that I can replace for the quality of KGB (potent pass rusher!).
Not sure what to do??? [smiley=frustrated.gif]

This is probably one for our IDP expert around here, Jim O'Dell. [smiley=flipoffangrily.gif] (That's not the finger to you, KKS!  That's just how Jim looks!  See for yourself:  http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/fantasyarticles.htm [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif] ... ;) )

Anyway, I don't really know IDP systems all that well, but given the relevant parts of your roster, it seems to me like you are ripe for such a trade.  Specifically speaking, I would DEFINITELY do it for Andre Johnson, BUT I would NOT do it for Charles Rogers.

Again, though, see what Jim or, perhaps, Tony O have to say on the issue. [smiley=shrug.gif]

Good luck, at any rate! [smiley=shamrock.gif]

Thanks Steg and in fact, I was thinking the same thing - that is - Andre instead of Charlie. If all my DL guys could stay healthy this year (last year Abraham played 1/3rd a seas.; Howard 1/5th a seas; & Courtney 1/2 a sea.... [smiley=bawling.gif]), then, I would certainly feel more comfy making this trade!
Also, it gives me a 2nd rounder in the rook draft which, I don't have right now.
And G.B. Failed to upgrade their DL this season as to help out ole KGB.

Actually, I just made the deal - and barrring my last minute decision of a gentleman's agreement, I am now the owner of Andre Johnson and a 2nd rd rook this seasoning.

WRs were soooooooo tough to come by last season and especially when you have to start 3. (not including the TE).

I think it is a good trade! [smiley=cheers.gif] You traded a good player in KGB, but you have good depth at that position so you can survive his loss. You also strengthened you depth at WR and gave yourself a good alternate for bye weeks as well. I'm pretty sure you can grab one of the rookie DE's with one of your rookie picks. The top two DE's went to the saints and the vikings and both teams have great depth on the defensive lines, which means the rookies will not see too many double teams. Each of these teams has had success with young lineman as well. Good Luck!

Just out of curiosity... I read that John Abraham was taking snaps at LB in a recent minicamp.  If he moves to LB for the season, can you still play him as a DL (since that was what you drafted him as) or would you have to play him at his current position?

That would have been one of the things I considered prior to the trade.

Anyways, I probably would have made the trade as well as I am pretty high on Andre Johnson.  Plus you are in good shape with your draft picks now.  If you are really desperate for DL help, Will Smith will definitely be around at 1.5 (but I probably wouldn't grab him there - although I'm not familiar with your scoring system for IDPs and how DL do historically)...  If you wait until the second round to draft a DL, you could probably get Jason Babin (maybe even in the third?), or Antwan Odom (or even Travis LaBoy - Titans drafted both, although I think Odom will be the better IDP candidate and LaBoy could be moved to OLB).  Also keep an eye on Jared Allen (DE for the Chiefs).  The guy has a ton of ability and will probably not get drafted in most IDP leagues.  Shawn Johnson (Oakland) is another of those small school guys who will go unnoticed in drafts, but could surprise on the field.

Actually thats a great point you have there. I have been very aware of the fact that Abraham will be used more in the "tweener" type role this year in the jets 3-4 packages.
However, as stands right now, he is still listed as a DL guy on CBS and by our rules, if it is changed to LB; I would NOT be able to use him as a DL.
From what I understand he'll play both positions this year and so, I am hoping that will keep his status as a DL guy.
If not then, I have ONE HECK of a LB Crew which by the way, are the scoring studs of the defense.
I was wary about this trade but, I pulled the trigger on it cuz, A.Johnson's upside as he is a marvel combo of speed & power and I was REALLY hurting last year at WR so, now I have depth and 3 solid starters.
I'll have to wing it w/ my DLine crew and looking at them, they really ain't so bad (Freeney should be an upcoming stud if Indy would help him out by adding some other guys to go w/ him in the trenches).

By the way Philly, AWESOME take on the DE's & Tweeners out there in this year's rookie draft!

If you ever wanted to join up w/ us then, I'll make a spot for yah! (I read your other post and totally understand about being in alot of leagues - Just being commish of this one has taken up so much of my time as is - though, I really appreciate your enthusiasm and time taken to post a note w/ detailed info!!!!!!!!)

You made the right decision. You can pick up a defensive lineman in your draft. Andre Johnson was a good pick up.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks Barnaby, I think so too,
Andre got almost 1000 yards in his rookie season, not too bad for being the youngest wideout on a team that had QB injury issues.
