Post by prm on Aug 8th, 2004, 2:27pm
ok guys, here's my team from our draft - what do you think??? i hope this is ok for a post on this site...

($200) salary cap...
qb - a. brooks / j. plummer
rb - j. lewis / d. mcallister / tj duckett / d. foster/b. westbrook
wr - d. stallworth / a. johnson / j. walker
te - b. williams / b. miller
k - j. wilkins
d/st - denver

my thoughts...
had brooks last year and i'm a homer (saints)...$20
surprised to get plummer - i was gonna get delhomme...$7
lewis - you guys convinced me he ain't goin to jail...$35
deuce - again, had him last year & i'm a homer...$60
duckett - need td's when 1 & 2 are off...$11
westbrook - why not...always room for a rb...$1
foster - just in case davis goes down...$1
donte - 3rd year (homer)...he's gotta do something soon...$3
johnson - giving it a shot (i think wrs are a dime/dozen)...$6
walker - again - why not...$11
boo - sleeper / homer - you decide...$7
miller - again - why not...mili's hurt right now...$3
wilkins - worth every pennny, my 3rd highest scorer last yr...$8
broncos - missed balt / carolina...they were my 3rd choice...$1

not bad - got $ to spare & a waiver wire full of options since we only had 8 guys show up this year...thanks for your input...

Welcome, PRM -

But what is your scoring system?

BTW - Your post is great here.

I have never been involved in an auction league.  How are you able to use your surplus salary cap $?

I like your QBs as value picks - I think both are better than they are getting drafted.  You may have paid a bit much for Brooks, I'd need a lot more info to figure that out.

Very good group of RBs.  With Deuce and Lewis you have 2 of the top 7 overall players on most boards.  It looks like Lewis was a real value (for what I can see).  The backups all have potential and Westbrook for a buck is a steal (I think).

Weak group of WRs and TEs.  This is a weak group even if 12 people were involved, with only 8 teams its really bad.  You need to pray and work waivers.

I don't expect Wilkins to equal last year's production and I believe he is overvalued this year - but definitely one of top kickers.

Broncos could be a value at the dollar you spent, I have a hard time seeing them as the third best defense though.

I'd have to see the other teams and know the scoring system, starting lineups, and other league details to get any more detailed with my analysis.  I think if you get lucky with your WRs or work hard on the waivers you will be OK.

I agree with bgsgfan to some extent.  You should have used some of that extra money and paid for a #1 WR.  You have some huge upside with your WRs, but you need some guarantees too.

Since you have a nice group of RBs, you might want to try to put together a package for a #1 WR.

I love Boo Williams at TE.  However, you overpaid (even at $3) for Billy Miller.  I'm guessing you could have had someone like Jason Witten for a buck.

Also, spending $8 on a kicker seems a bit extravagant no matter how good he is.

Finally, I also question your ranking of Denver as the 3rd best defense.  But you got great value there (unless Patriots, Eagles, Cowboys, or Dolphins also went for a buck.)

thanks guys...our scoring system is standard for scores and yardage bonuses (also standard - 1 pt/10 yds rushing/rec...1/20 yds passing)...also yardage bonus of 1/10 yds (after 30yds) for kickers...and y'know, i've NEVER drafted a huge receiver and i've won 4/6 bowls...usually, i trade alot during the season to play matchups - it costs me, but so far it's worked for me...the rest of our cap $$ can be used to trade/drop & add...we still have to bid on anyone we want so it helps to have a little $$ to toss out - especially when you drop a $1 player & try to grab a hot player at the time...
some other random prices:
priest went for $80 / culpepper $45 / a. green $61 / m. harrison $43 / (LT was a keeper from last yr $56) / portis $61 / gonzalaz $40...those were the outstanding prices, as you can imagine - there were some pretty good bargains with only 8 guys...but don't worry about me with receivers...like i said i watch for the best matchups & usually get at least mid teens for scoring, so i'm not too worried - and you never know, if any of my "break out" receivers actually break out - i save $$ this year...thanks again guys...
