Title: Need some advice Post by DB on Aug 26th, 2004, 12:12pm I am in the midst of a draft that seems to give a lot of points for TDs. So far I have Alexander, Westbrook, S. Moss, S. Smith and M. Hasselbeck. Line-up is 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE and a D. I am coming up again.... any suggestions. I am thinking another RB and Suggs, K and T Jones and Bennett, Q. Griff and Charlie G. are still available. ?.?.? |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by bgsgfan on Aug 26th, 2004, 12:28pm At that point in the draft I would go for upside. If it wasn't TD heavy I'd say Bennett was a clear choice, but Moe will steal a lot of TDs and Culpepper a few. I see all those choices as TD-challenged. I gotta tell you the truth, I am really scratching my head. Suggs is the choice I'd probably make just based on upside. With that many choices so close, I'd look at the other positions and see if there was a clear-cut favorite; then catch one of these RBs with my next choice. With 3 WRs starting, and you only having 2 so far, maybe a WR would be a good choice here. |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by Philly on Aug 26th, 2004, 1:44pm I think Suggs will get the most TDs of the group, but I think Bennett will get substantially more yards... Tice has said that Bennett won't necessarily be pulled on goal-line attempts. However, if there is one truism in sports, it's "Everybody Lies!" I'd lean towards Bennett here, but would not consider Suggs a bad choice. What WRs are available? Is Winslow, Gonzalez, or Heap still available? |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by DB on Aug 26th, 2004, 1:59pm With 3 picks to go before me... Bennett and T. Jones are gone but the others are still around. I like K. Jones even though Philly took Jackson over him (I ended up with Jackson myself in the GBRFL because of Stegeman's shaky hand during the lottery as a result of too many Mike's Hard Ones). Winslow and Shockey are available as are Peerless, Porter, Rod Smith, Plax and Farve and Brady. Toughie. I promoted this site, so if any of you bastards from my draft are reading this, then I really like Vinny Testaverde with my next pick. [smiley=titflash.gif] |

A person can't get drunk off of Mike's Hard Lemonade, can they? I thought it was physically impossible to do. [smiley=alcoholic.gif] ;) Quote:
I might even consider taking Winslow with this pick. There's no reason why he can't overtake Gonzo as the #1 TE this season. However, there is plenty of TE talent available much later on, so I say go with Suggs and don't look back. |

My bad, I was referring to this guy Mike. ;) Just kidding. [smiley=LMFAO.gif] Stegeman humor. Anyway, I appreciate the advice, but I took Winslow. Maybe I will get a back on the wrap around or go for the next best receiver. I think Winslow has way more upside than any of the TE's other than Shockey and ther are more good RBs at this point than TE's. Plus, having played only in the GBRFL only, I don't really follow tight ends past the top 3. |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by Philly on Aug 26th, 2004, 5:00pm Shockey is overrated... he can't stay on the field for more than 3 or 4 plays before he sustains yet another injury... I like the Winslow pick there. Hopefully Suggs will slide through the cracks and reappear in the next round. |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by DB on Aug 26th, 2004, 5:35pm Suggs didn't make it back and I may regret that one. I took Q. Griffin [smiley=broncofan.gif]instead as my third. |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by prm on Aug 26th, 2004, 7:58pm well - what i got out of the last string that i started was: (a). i'm not the only one who thinks there is something clinically wrong with mike shannahan... (b). the rb situation there is a crapshoot until it isn't a crapshoot... right now - i wouldn't be unhappy with griffin - but i am sad for anderson just because i really like him and he's really getting screwed (as an athlete - if not financially in denver) - because time is running out for him to be a big player and it's only because he lives in a psycho's world - but i digress - if you are right, you'll have the "chosen one" in denver - if not, surely someone who wasn't supposed to be good will be good...good luck, prm... |

If you're starting two RBs, I'd take McGahee as a #4 (stretch) or a #5. He'll be huge if Henry gets injured, but don't expect Henry to milk any injury. He's played hurt in the past when there was no challenge to his job, so he'll probably try even harder to play through pain now. If Henry doesn't get hurt, then McGahee will get limited playing time. Word is that is still doesn't have his explosiveness back - he is trying to run over and through defenders instead of around and past them as he was able to do in the past. Quote:
How deep? -Branch and Givens have to be considered sleepers, but they're both starters, so people are at least aware of them. -Eric Parker in SD? He's been made a starter already - although it is unknown if he will keep that role or if it is meant to motivate others - I don't see much of SD to be able to know. -Drew Bennett? He's got injury history and everyone is jumping on the Calico bandwagon and forgetting that Bennett is still the #2. -Marc Boerigter? He's nearly healthy again and will move ahead of Johnnie Morton in KC. -Bryant Johnson? He has a minor injury right now, but he'll be healthy before Fitzgerald and long before Boldin. -Darnerian McCants? He's a big play guy and a great red zone target. -Josh Reed? The new offense that Buffalo is running should really exploit his skills. -Tim Brown? If McCardell doesn't report, Brown will be the #2 behind Galloway and ahead of Lee and Clayton. |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by DB on Aug 27th, 2004, 11:48am The whole WR "break out" thing really causes me to hold back on drafting too many of them. Outside of the top 10, there seems to be way, way more turnover in this position than any other. Sure, every year there is a back or two or three that emerges and is big time but receivers are so up and down. For example, Peerless was great, then sucked and may be very good, same for Burress, Stallworth, etc. A year ago, where was Santana Moss, Steve Smith being drafted. So, strategy-wise, in a small roster (15 as opposed to 21), I say take two good receivers in the first 5 rounds and let everyone else grab the potential break out guys because there are ALWAYS going to be break out guys that NO ONE can predict. :o :o :o. |

Title: Re: Need some advice Post by Philly on Aug 27th, 2004, 1:01pm Since you're starting 3 WRs in a 15 man roster, you're already in good shape with two starters in Moss (slightly overrated this year, IMO) and Smith. You need one more guy you can count on (Porter, Toomer, Bruce, ?) and another guy with big potential who could break out the weeks you need him to cover byes (Stallworth, ADavis, Wayne, Galloway, ?). And then, if you have roster room, take a flyer on the best available at the end of the draft (Bennett, McCardell, Kennison) or a rookie (Evans, Clayton, etc.) If you only want to carry 4 WRs, that works too - just watch the waiver wire. Remember no one had Anquan Boldin on their rosters at the start of the 2003 season. |
