Title: Garner out for season
Post by junkyardjake on Sep 27th, 2004, 12:03pm
I don't know if anyone has posted this, but it appears Charlie Garner is out for the season after tearing a tendon in his knee.

Michael Pittman is due back from his suspension this week and is expected to take over.

JYJ :^)

Would he step right in as the #1 tailback?

Pittman has supposedly kept himself in great shape during his absence, so I don't see why not.  Who else do they have ?  I guess Jamal White might see some carries too.

So much for my prediction on his Total TDs for the season... lol. ;D

This is what they get for letting Jones and Stecker go and bringing a much older back who's going to be more succeptible to attaining injuries.

I'm actually hoping for a terrible Bucs season... so people realize that the team that won the Superbowl was Dungy's team, not Gruden's and that letting all the people who got you to the Superbowl, go, and bringing former players of yours(i.e. ex-Raiders) won't get you anywhere.

Off with Gruden's head...

Dude, their letting go of players was more about salary-cap economics than anything else.

As to the main topic of this thread, here's confirmation from off "The REAL Feed":

Buccaneers lose Garner for season (http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/ABN3522143.htm)
The Sports Network: NFL (27.09.2004 12:10)

I would surmise that this is the end of Garner's illustrous, but injury-marred and under-appreciated career.

This falls into the category of Sapp, or Keyshawn/McCardell, because last time I checked they de-activated KJ in the middle of last season, and have yet to come to an agreement on McCardell's contract. Both aren't "star" WRs, but better then the WR corps they currently have now.

Economically, they got rid of Lynch and Sapp to pick up the contracts of Tim Brown and Garner? Doesn't look like they used their money wisely.

It's not all about the players who have left... it's Gruden and how he used and uses them all...

Pittman and many others were part of my EXCESSIVE waiver wire work today.  I'm starting to feel like I'm Typhoid Callie!

I just hope I've used up all of my bad luck in September, unless the FF gods are like the Greek gods and just like to screw with people. [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif]

Ahh, there's a whole lot of season left.  Except in the CBFL.......

I don't see Pittman being much more then a yardage back... I'd say look for Alstott to steal most of the goal-line carries and pick up the TDS.

If I do re-call, before the season started, and whilst Aaron Stecker was still on the Bucs, I said this kid could really have a bright future. He didn't dissapoint last week, and until Deuce comes back, I'd ride him for the next 3 weeks, Arizona, TBay, Minny, all but Tampa Bay is not proven against the run, and even TBay had its problems against the run yesterday allowing over 160+ rush yards.

Pittman has broken my heart in the past, but right now he's in a bench slot in a homer league with unlimited waivers and trades.  We'll see.  I'll dump him for any better prospect.  Not a whole lot was left, and I agree with you.

As for Stecker, I grabbed him in three leagues on spec and was pleased in Week 3.  In two of those leagues, Deuce is still cooking on my bench.  In the third, a large league with very deep rosters, I was desperate!

My "gut" says Pittman won't let you down this time.   [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif]

:o - i recall a discussion in this very forum - on this very topic earlier this season (pre-draft)...and it seems i was somewhat high on pittman and some were - in fact NOT- as they say better to be lucky than good at times...he may not be huge - but when you've got studs in the training room he's suddenly quite attractive isn't he????
and i anticipate he'll make good of the opportunity...
prm...
