Title: Cannot get Johnson, still do trade?
Post by lumber2121 on Oct 12th, 2004, 1:16pm
I just found out that I cannot get C. Johnson for M. Bulger straight up.  The other guy would like to have a WR in return.  So the trade I asked you all about is falling a part.

I would give up Harrison, Roethlisberger and Barlow and receive Thomas Jones, Donte Stallworth and Marc Bulger.  Should I still do this trade, eventhough I probably will not be able to get C. Johnson for Bulger?

Here is my roster
QB - Plummer, Delhomme, Roethlisberger
RB - M. Faulk, S. Jackson, C. Taylor, L. Henry, K. Barlow
WR - L. Coles, D. Givens, M. Harrison
TE - A. Gates
K - Wilkins
DST  - Panthers

Here is my competition's roster
QB - T. Brady, M. Bulger
RB - C. Dillon, D. Staley, T. Jones, O. Smith, N. Davenport
WR - H. Ward, D. Stallworth, L. Fitzgerald
TE - B. Williams, D. Clark
K - J. Brown
DST - Steelers

I don't think you should do it... while Bulger would give you a better QB corps, he is inconsistent and throws a lot of INTs.  Might as well ride it out with the Jakes instead of decimating your WR roster.  For the RBs, keep combing the waiver wire to see if you can grab the next Reuben Droughns or Mewelde Moore - (Brock Forsey maybe?).  You might also try to trade Chester Taylor to the Jamal Lewis owner and see if that can get you anything.

Hmmm, tough call.   You certainly need QB & RB help.  This gives it to you.   Keeping Bulger probably isn't a bad plan anyway with that list of QBs.   If you can still score a Hilliard (Carter is out for season), Marcus Robinson or Nate Burleson, or some other emerging WR threat, I'd do it.   If you have nothing but dregs left on the WW, your WRs are going to be very thin.

All in all, I think you get enough upside out of this to do it, but you may need to keep dealin to upgrade those WRs.

I agree with what the good captain says...I'd make the deal, but would keep looking for WR help.
