Title: Is it time to trade CuMar?
Post by bgsgfan on Oct 23rd, 2004, 11:06am
As of this point in the season, what RBs do you guys see as better prospects than Curtis Martin for the rest of the season? I am thinking that his value has topped and he will drop off to more reasonable stats the rest of the season, but as of right now he is easily leading the league in FF points. Scoring is standard with 1 point per reception.

Priest
LT?
S Alexander?
Portis?

Also, Chris Brown was drafted in the 11th round and this is a keeper league - unlimited keepers, yet you lose the pick + 3 rounds. At 4-2, I am very much in the thick of things - am I crazy to consider trying to get Brown for CuMar? Because of a good draft on my part in latter rounds this year, I could become a dynasty in future years, but I don't want to ruin my chances this year.

FYI, here are some projected keepers along with where I drafted them (14 teams, 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D):
Roy Williams (8th round)
Steve Smith (11th round - actually 14th round in 2003)
Big Ben (15th round)
Antonio Bryant (16th round)
Terry Glenn (18th round)

i'd ride the wave until it hit the beach - nothing to indicate c'mart has slowed down yet - obviously LT is the top of the line keeper - and i believe i've adequately expressed my extreme dismay - yea, loathing - for the COMPLETELY GUTLESS - chris brown...who's already been out of 3 games for injuries that i'd make my own kid play through - but i digress - i'd keep martin...
prm...

I agree, bg, that Martin's value now is as high as it can get/will ever get (again).  So, employing the "stock market" method of fantasy football, now is a good time to move him (especially in deep keeper leagues).  He may not slow down this year, though he will inevitably continue to age (ever-increasingly in football life) with every passing week and carry.  It all just depends on whether you like the "futures" (to put it in "market" terms) of the players you can get for him more or not.  It's a good time to shop him, for sure; it may or may not be a good time to move him, but it's not a bad time to, either:  you'll likely get more than he is worth (in the long haul and perhaps also at the end of the day this season).

I agree that now is probably the best time to consider trading CuMar, but I don't know if Brown is the guy you should be targeting.  He's injury-prone and doesn't seem to be able to shake that moniker.  You might be better off trying to get someone like Edge in return.
