Title: Reviewing the rookies
Post by DB on Nov 8th, 2004, 4:58pm
This year was projected to be a great crop of rookies and, for the most part, they have lived up to the billing.

Big Ben has certainly been a great rookie QB after being the third QB drafted.  Eli, Rivers and Losman haven't been given opportunities.  I would think that JP will be given a look at the end of the year if and when Buffalo is eliminated from the playoff race, assuming he rehabs well.

The RBs have been disappointing in my opinion.  SJax has shown flashed of greatness and should be a top 5 back for the future.  He just needs carries.  KJones hasn't lived up to the hype.  JJones was hurt early in the year.

This has proven to be a great year for rookie WRs.  Roy Williams has gotten a lot of praise and deservedly so, however, Larry Fitzgerald has come on strong and I think he will be the best receiver in the league down the line (I am bias because I drafted him in the GBRFL over Williams and Big Ben).  Lee Evans has also been a deep threat and is going to be a superstar as well.  Haven't  heard much about Reggie Williams.

Kellen Winslow's week 1 injury ended his year too early.

Rookie of the year at this point has to be Big Ben whose poise and confidence is unreal.   :o

Ben is a lock for the ROY right now.  I think Eli will play before the year is out.  Losman should get some snaps in December.  I doubt Rivers will see the playing field this year.

S-Jax has been impressive in limited action -- he's averaged 5.3 per carry.  The only player who is better (with enough carries) is another rookie, Mewelde Moore!  KJones, JJones, and Tatum Bell have been busts.

Roy Williams would have been a ROY candidate had he not missed so much time with an injury.  Fitz has been improving (does anyone have softer hands?).  Evans will do more as the season progresses.  Reggie Williams and Michael Jenkins have been disappointments.  Darius Watts has shown some flashes.  But Michael Clayton is the best of the bunch so far (because of his situation more than anything else).  Keary Colbert has been very solid for a rookie.

Ben Troupe has been pretty quiet, but Tennessee has struggled as a team.

Chris Perry has also not lived up to his hype.

Was there anyone who actually bought into the Chris Perry hype. I sure didn't. Even though I don't think he was really that greatly hyped to begin with aside from being a first round pick.
