Title: S-Jax (v. 49ers) or Rudi (v. Ravens)
Post by Philly on Dec 3rd, 2004, 10:19am
Any thoughts?

I grabbed S-Jax off waivers in week 2 and have held onto him this whole season, just waiting for Faulk to get hurt.  Now Rudi is coming off a huge effort and it is hard to think of him on the bench this week.

Edge is my #1 and is a little dinged, so I need a strong effort from my #2.

Do I actually bench Rudi for S-Jax this week?

I am going to say to go with Jackson.  With Faulk ailing (yet again), this could be Jackson's breakout game.  As for Rudi, he has been coming on lately, but I am going to defer to the old cycles rule on this one:  he is due for a down game... and what better defense to go up against to put that down game on a platter for him but the Ravens.  I just see two significant negative fantasy factors on a collision course here.

Totally agree with Steg here...Rudi is due for a letdown, and Jackson could put up some great stats vs a very poor Niner D.

Jackson is your man.  I too have waited all year to start Jackson.  He is a stud in the making.  His upside is better than Johnson's in my opinion.  Also, the Ravens are a whole lot tougher.

Only problem with Steven Jackson...

Mike Martz.

Until Martz stops playing track meet, I say you go with Rudi.

WOW...I hate to agree with Sexless Dexter on this, but I do!

Play Jackson.  Jackson is at home, SF has given up a TD or two per game to RBs over the last month, and SF has given up around 100 yds. per game to RBs over the last month.

Rudi will get the touches, but BAL has only given up that much to Priest (who can stop him?).  This is probably the worst matchup for Rudi all year so far.

Ohhhhh, I know this one !

Rudi Johnson is a fine RB, but he will more than likely get stuffed like a canoli against a pissed-off Ravens defense in Baltimore.

With Marshall Faulk out (or highly questionable as the case seems to be), Stephen Jackson should at least triple the output of Johnson making Philly's smart pickup finally pay off.

The last time Rudi played against the Ravens he had...

23 carries, 98 yards

That's over 4 yards per carry.  Not only that, Carson Palmer and the rest of the Cincinatti offense is starting to come along.

Mike Martz gets a woody thinking about the forward pass.  So unless you get points for receptions, I'd strongly lean against Jackson with a subpar, whacky Rams team at the helm.

I could be wrong, of course.  Just making the case for Rudi here.

I went with S-Jax over Rudi by a nose and S-Jax slightly outscored Rudi.  Fortunately Edge had a big game and my QB shuffle (dropped Harrington for Collins and Bledsoe because of their upcoming schedules, and benched Brooks for Collins) paid off, so I've assured myself of a playoff spot now.
