I think losing Mason would be a bad move and a big hit to their offense. He is a very underrated and undervalued receiver. Emergence of Drew Bennett aside, McNair would sorely miss him. With that in mind, could it affect McNair's return? One of his gripes was the players he was losing around him on offense.

Also, Rolle and some of these other guys mentioned would be big hits affecting the IDP landscape.

Losing Mason is going to be a huge hit for the Titans. The Titans are obviously in salary cap hell. The good news is that the Titans seem to have two pretty capable receivers in Bennett and Calico.(IF Calico can ever stay healthy.) I also think Eddie Berlin will step up his game. In addition, they do have two good TEs in Kinney and Troupe.

The good news is that Mason can go to another team. He is going to be one of top receivers out there. He will get a nice payday no matter where he signs.

I think the big question with the Titans is McNair. What the hell ius he going to do? With Chow coming aboard, does Chow want to waste a year with McNair or get go with heir apparent in Volek? Does McNair want to bother with no consistancy, one more year of getting beat to a pulp?

It will be an interesting off season.

Wow! The Titans cleaned house today. Mason, Rolle and Carter all cut. So were K Joe Nedney, RT Fred Miller and FB Robert Holcombe.

I think I found the LOCAL report by way of "the Gridiron Newsstand" where this (size-wise) little, but (impact-wise) HUGE piece of info was garnered:

PacMan Jones has been arrested and charged with a couple misdemeanors stemming from a (nother) scuffle at a bar.

PacMan has a nice little history of issues at bars. As a student at WVU he cold-cocked someone over the head with a pool cue (and was charged) and again, before the draft, there was an incident where he allegedly smashed a bottle over a woman's head (she dropped the charges).

I told those Titans to draft USC WR Mike Williams, but no, they didn't listen. So now they're stuck with the next coming of Sean Taylor.

callie may be the only one to remember one of my rants from last year - because i got a reply ;) - but here's paul's wild speculation...henry will be the starter in tn. after week one (when ray lewis puts !^$$% @$$ed chris brown out of football for good)...i'm telling you my 8 year old daughter is tougher that brown - although she openly crys more :-[- and he'll be on an early bus out of nashville :-*...let's just wait & see when i'm right...

Here is my two cents:

The Titans are going to play a very conservative, ball control offense. They will use both Henry and Brown. I predict a split of about 60% Henry and 40% Brown, with Henry getting most of the goalline carries. You may even see them both in the backfield together.

While most people are counting the Titans out this year, I believe that Jeff Fisher really thinks they have a shot at the playoffs. Why else would he trade for Henry? I think he will try to control the clock and win "ugly". This will also help keep McNair healthy all year.

If you noticed, most of the top teams the last few years (especially the ones that made it to the NFC and AFC championships) had multiple RB's. (Eagles, Patriots, Steelers, Panthers). Following this blueprint, I think the Titan's are going to try to win with defense and a good running game. The problem as I see it is that their defense may not be good enough this year, plus the early part of their schedule is a killer.

Now the Titans would like to see Calico step up as a starter across from Drew Bennett, but Calico, cleared for training camp, is fine with being eased back into action.

"It's tough to stay patient because everyone's making plays on the deep ball,'' Calico said of the three rookie receivers - Courtney Roby, Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams.

"As long as I stay patient, we've still got more practices to come. But right now it's more mental toughness, and I know what I'm doing in my rehab. I'm more understanding. If I'd got hurt in my first year, I'd be out there trying to go all out. But right now I'm ... going along with the process.''

How well Calico plays will help determine how much the Titans miss veteran Derrick Mason, who was released in February in a salary cap purge despite leading the team in receptions the past four seasons.

The Titans drafted the 6-foot-4, 222-pound Calico in the second round in 2003 with an eye to the future. They loved his size and speed and made him the 60th overall pick out of Middle Tennessee.

Calico showed promise by scoring touchdowns on his first two receptions as a rookie. But he struggled to catch the ball and finished with only 18 receptions for 297 yards and four touchdowns.

His second year was even worse.

Calico started camp by catching nearly everything thrown his way until Dallas safety Roy Williams yanked him down from behind in the Titans' third exhibition. That left Calico with a pair of sprained knees, and he had surgery to repair some cartilage in his left knee.

He missed the first three games, then tried to return against San Diego on Oct. 3. He caught two passes for 13 yards and looked healthy until he went down by himself while trying to catch a pass in the flat.

Calico didn't tear his ACL, but it was frayed enough from an initial injury suffered in high school that Dr. James Andrews decided repair was the best option during surgery on Oct. 14.

The receiver promised he would be back for the start of training camp, and he was right.

But Calico is just one of the Titans recuperating from ACL surgery. The Titans are also limiting safety Tank Williams, linebacker Peter Sirmon and offensive lineman Jacob Bell to one practice a day, while Calico and Williams have worked only in individual drills the first two days.

On Sunday, Calico caught a pass across the middle during his first team drill of training camp.

That is fine with Calico, who wants to be available and dependable for all 16 games starting with the opener on Sept. 11 at Pittsburgh.

"Everybody around here probably thinks I'm going to be a starter,'' Calico said. "That's not my focus. My focus is to be accountable and make it through the year. If I get that spot, I get that spot. If not, I'm still going to be around.''

Bottom line, this guy could very well be a starter someday somewhere, and a good one at that.

On a different note, isn't there eventually going to be some "anti-trust" type questions coming out of this agent/lawyer domination of professional sports (pardon my ignorance here if such questions/"issues" already have... I don't know)? I mean... I know they aren't talking about it here. BUT, hypothetically, let's say the Eagles and Titans ended up making a deal involving Volek and Owens, i.e. a deal involving Rosenhous in return for Rosenhous. Isn't there something funky here that needs to be overseen (probably is,... but is it good enough?) regarding the kind of information agents are sharing between clients? ?.?.?
