Title: Bills Offseason Report
Post by DirkDiggler on Feb 15th, 2005, 7:20pm
The Buffalo Bills have named JP Losman starter for next year.   And now this:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3399066

Yep, Bledsoe will be released on Wednesday.  Obviously Losmans value goes up, and Bledsoes go down.  Will Bledsoe land somewhere as a starter or will he be a back up?

Losman's value does go up, but what happens to the value of Moulds and Evans?  Apparently, Losman is working a lot with QB coach Sam Wyche during the off season.

It will be very interesting to see what kind of QB Losman will be.  Will he want to run too much or will we be able to sit in the pocket, when necessary, and make the reads and throws necessary to be a quality NFL QB?

Moulds and others made some very supportive statements about Losman's ability.  We shall see.

I guess we will have to wait until training camp.

Per AP: The Bills may trade Travis Henry to the Cardinals for OT L.J. Shelton.  No links or details yet, and they can't announce this until the trading period opens on March 2nd.

This is a great article.  The main reason is that the article referenced the "Rochester Democrat and Journal" as the source of the information.  As a Western New Yorker, I am very aware of the medicority of the Rochester Democrat and CHRONICLE.  I find it hilarious that the paper finally gets some publicity and their name is butchered. :D

As a Bills fan, I would like to see this trade happen.

I honestly thought Holcombs service would of been more sought after.  He will ride the pine since Losman is starter. This is a good signing for Buffalo to have insurance in case Losman goes down or sucks.

Shane Mathews resigned with the Bills as the 3rd string QB.  He is being kept, in part, to be another veteran presence to help Losman learn the game.

This is old news, but the Bills also signed guard Mike Gandy (formerly of the Bears) and Bennie Anderson (Ravens).  Also, Jason Peters (a very athletic 300 lb. former TE) and Justin Bannan (DL) have been moved to OL.  Both were very effective in limited work last year.  All of this shows the Bills are working on their biggest weakness, the offensive line.

The fantasy spin on this is that Willis McGahee put up good numbers last year with a patch-work line.  Just wait until he has a full year running behind a revamped line.  Also, the guys I mentioned appear to be geared toward run blocking.  So look for Mularkey to use the run to wear down opponents and then go for a deep strike through the air.  This could lead to a greater risk, but more big play potential for Lee Evans.

Henry update...  Or, should I say, non-update?  From "The REAL Feed":

RB Henry no-show at Bills' mandatory minicamp (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/wires/04/29/2020.ap.fbn.bills.henry.0196/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (29.04.2005 16:35)

Any thoughts, fellas?  With the current plethora of NFL tailbacks, Henry is kind of stuck.  Boy, it would be a shame if this guy's once VERY promising career went down the tubes. [smiley=downthetubes.gif]

Unfortunately for Henry, it looks like he may miss this year or end up with another team in a running back my committee situation.  However, he will be a free agent after this season.  He is still relatively young and has a lot of good years left in him.  I do not think him holding out will tarnish his reputation.  He is known as a hard worker who is extremely tough.  Eventually, he will end up putting up big numbers with someone.

In-depth article on JP's progress.

I like him but think he only has value in keeper leagues right now.  I guess Holcomb could come in and do well if JP gets off to a slow start.
