The Raiders are tagging Woodson as a non-exclusive franchise player so he can't just walk away as a free agent.  Now they'll shop him to the highest bidder or keep him.

A lot of changes are in the offing for Oakland.  They're carrying a lot of dead money against the cap, but there are a lot of places to do some pruning.

Woodson and Poston made a GREAT move in screwing the Raiders.  They are forcing the Raiders hands.  The Raiders did not expect Woodson to sign the offer.  With Woodson signing the deal, the Raiders could not take the Tag off the table.  With Woodson signing, the Raiders are $17 mil OVER the cap without Porters new deal or Moss figured in.  

He will be out of there VERY soon.

I do not have any links that were satisfying, but the rumor mill is saying that maybe the Woodson situation is setting up a plan to send Woodson to Miami and to get Ricky Williams to Oakland.  I cannot figure out the mechanism for something like this, and everything mentions it with smoke and mirrors.  But we all know that Williams wants to be a Raider and Woodson does NOT want to be a Raider.  The rumor says that Williams would have a four regular season game penalty, and then he could play.

Great move for both sides.  LaMont looked great at times last year and could be huge for the Raiders (even though they will being passing a lot!!)

I don't know the salary cap situation, but they will probably be forced to make some major cuts at other positions.

They've already let Buchanon go.  The 30th ranked D is going to struggle to move up even 1 spot next season.   But Oakland will do what Minny has done for 7 years....sell out and be exciting to watch offensively.

The inside story is that Raider Nation is not very happy about the 3-4 D (but the coaching staff is still there), and this year the draft could be a whole lot better.  Watch for a little vulturing to come.

Sorry... had no internet access this weekend...  This is a nice signing for the Raiders.  I think the Eagles had no intentions of resigning him.  Burgess has a world of talent and potential, but he just can't stay healthy.  You saw what he could do in the playoff game against the Falcons.  He really shut Vick down and didn't let him scramble at all.  He's a solid pass rusher and will also play the run.

You gotta give OAK top marks for this offseason.  They have issues at CB, at secondary in general really.  Their DLine is aging too, but they have done really well this offseason.  Heck, just landing the best WR in the game ( and probably someday the best to ever play the game)  is a major coup!

We're up to mini-camp weekend!  So, as a resident Raider Nation member of this hangout, I thought I'd give you a quick look at what the Raiders have done in the off-season so far:

Randy Moss, former Viking - Really gives the Raiders a WR corps for the rest of the AFC West to plan for.  (The Broncos drafted CBs with their first three picks.)

Lamont Jordan, former Jet - Hopes are the Raiders will finally have a running game again.

Derrick Burgess, former Eagle - For the pass rush.

Renaldo Hill, former Cardinal - CB for the nickel.

Rob Konrad, former Dolphin - For depth at fullback.

Kenny Smith, former Saint - DT inside option.

CB Fabian Washington in the draft - Lots of speed.  Concern about size for when he gets there, especially against tall WRs in one-on-one.

CB Stanford Routt in the draft - For speed in the pass D.  A track guy turned football player.  Needs work on his football skills.

LB Kirk Morrison in the draft - Could possibly start.  Hopes are that he'll be a Greg Biekert type run stopper.

QB Andrew Walter - Strong arm.  Possible QB for the future.

DT Anttaj Hawthorne - Huge and strong.  When his name comes up in a sentence, it's usually accompanied by the words "disruptive force" against opposing O's.

DE Ryan Riddle in the draft - Under-sized.  Not an every down type of guy.  Hopes are that he'll be a good pass rush specialist.

OT Pete McMahon in the draft - Here for development.  Has good technique.

The motifs are, as always, speed & size & the vertical game.  The standard joke is that Al must still be running the team.  The obvious plan is to score like the Colts while squashing  opponents' passing games.

The bad news is that even though the Raiders are definitely addressing their big needs in the defense, chances are the 2005 D will only be an "average" one.  But that's better than "abysmal."  Last year the Raiders ranked 30th in total yards allowed, 30th in passing yards allowed and 31st in points allowed.

And even an "average" D might just be enough to allow the 2005 Raider Air Force to outscore their opponents. ;)

I really like this Ronald Curry.  If Jerry Porter never gets it together (perhaps from thinking he has fallen a bit out of favor because of the Moss signing or for whatever reason), I think Curry could become the man opposite Moss and be a very productive fantasy commodity.  Bottom line, if this guy gets an opportunity to shine, I am sure he will.

Nice work and I would agree with it all except for Curry.  I actually like Curry and drafted him in the last round of the GBRFL last year based on his upside.  However, he is not a #2 (by which I assume you mean ranked in the 15-25ish range of WR's?) and I would say it is a stretch to put him at a #4 (bye week guy) unless Porter is hurt or he proves it with consistency.  I don't believe he was even drafted in the GBRFL this year, but will certainly be picked up with a good start.

I gotta second DB and even go further.  To have the fourth WR as a Low #3 is hard to swallow.  Basically it would be saying that the Raiders 4th guy is better that 4-7 other teams' first guy (depending on how many teams have a 2 WR in the top 36).  I see so many players that are legitimate threats to get around 1,000 yards in that range of players and to put a 4th WR in that range is awfully hard to swallow.

It could be  typo, but if not I'd love to see how you break down the passing stats to get to that conclusion.

I finally got a chance to look back at my original chart.  I started to post a copy of it, but that was just overkill.  The bottom line is that I had Gabriel at L4 on my chart and probably just typed it wrong.  Still, if he is traded to a WR poor team, he could move up.

Maybe Al Davis was sending me psychic messages!  ;D

Raiders / Texans first quarter - Gabriel is KING in this one!  Three catches, 2 TD's and a kick-off return for 27 yards.  His second TD was a BOMB from Collins for a 70 yard TD!  (Something like a 40 yd pass and 30 yds after the catch!

Now it's the second quarter, so we may not see the starters again this week.  More in the Raider FF Specific Report.

According to the Raiders, the injury does not even affect his grip on the ball.  The fact that backup QB Walters is only a rookie should be of no concern at this time to Moss, Porter, Curry, Jordan owners, but keep watching in case the injury causes more problems than projected.

I can't find a link yet, but the Raider pre-game show is saying that Doug Gabriel had surgery on his finger and will be out for a month.
