Title: Re: Patriots Offseason Report Post by Philly on Apr 30th, 2005, 8:24pm It's nice to see that Doug can finish his career in Boston. His agent told me that this is his last year as a player, so Boston is a perfect fit for him. |

Title: Re: Patriots Offseason Report Post by Callie on Apr 30th, 2005, 11:07pm I thought I heard somewhere that Flutie is a terrific QB mentor. Think they brought him to give Cassel a bit of mentoring? BTW - You said last year as a player. Did his agent mention anything about possible future coaching? (Seems like the money would be in broadcasting, but he may love being closer to the game. That would seem to fit what we've seen from him over the years.) |

No, she didn't mention that. All she said was that he was hanging up the cleats following the 2005 season. I'm sure he'll do very well with endorsement deals this season (being back home where he first made a name for himself), so he may just decide to spend some more time with his foundation when he's done. I really don't know. |

Title: Re: Patriots Offseason Report Post by Callie on May 7th, 2005, 10:07pm Think the Pats like Brady???? "KFFL Breaking News Brady Lands Huge New Contract ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has landed a six-year deal worth nearly $60 million. It replaces the final two years Brady had remaining on his former deal. The deal includes a $14.5 million signing bonus and a $12 million option bonus due next spring. His base salaries are $1 million (2005), $4 million (2006), $6 million (2007), $5 million (2008), $2.3 million (2009) and $3.5 million (2010). There are also roster bonuses of $3 million in each of the final three years of the deal. His salary cap hit is $8.429 million for 2005, but his cap number for 2006 jumps to $14.423 million so his contract may have to be revisited as early as next year. Brady also received guarantees in his deal during 2007 and 2008." http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-patriots-brady&prov=ap&type=lgns "Brady had two years left on his previous contract that had a total value of about $30 million -- less than Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning got in signing bonus alone even though Brady has knocked the Colts out of the playoffs in consecutive years." |

From "The REAL Feed": Bruschi won't play in '05 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2112630&CMP=OTC-DT9705204233) ESPN: NFL (20.07.2005 18:20) Patriots linebacker recovering by Associated PressBOSTON -- New England Patriots Tedy Bruschi will sit out this season because of a stroke he suffered 10 days after helping the Patriots win their third Super Bowl in four years. "Tedy ... has declared his intentions to forgo the 2005 campaign... This is probably the end of a career. [smiley=wavinbye.gif] A great one that Tedy can walk away from proudly. He's left absolutely NOTHING on the field... in the way of accomplishments... or otherwise. This is a hit to the value of the Patriots team defense, however, from a fantasy perspective, and obviously anyone who had him in a keeper IDP league took a SERIOUS hit. However, this is just the official notice; you had to know this was a forgone conclusion way back. |
