Funny...  This is where I thought he should have gone a year or two ago (before Kevin Jones arrived).  From "The REAL Feed (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)":

NFL ROUNDUP: Lions sign backup running back White
FREEP: Football (01.04.2005 06:07)

The Lions signed free agent running back Jamel White, the team announced Thursday. Terms of the deal were not released. White, 5-feet-9, 208 pounds, has rushed for 1,406 yards on 376 carries in five seasons. He also has 170 receptions. White, 27, will likely compete for a third-string o...

He does make a nice backup to Jones.  If Jones were to get injured, I think White could make some noise in this offense.

Anybody reading anything into the Lions' recent signing of WR Kevin Johnson, especially as it might relate to Charles Rogers and his health status/injury history?

From "The REAL Feed":

I think it's just what the article implied.  Depth in case of injuries.  They have experienced the need.

Sorry for ANOTHER double post, but this makes sense:

"10. Detroit -- After going offense in the past five drafts, the Lions are thrilled to have linebacker Derrick Johnson staring them down at no. 10. Johnson is being compared to Ray Lewis, enough said."

C'mon... the Lions need another WR like they need a hole in the head.  (Err, what was that?  They drafted who???)  Umm... nevermind.

How true?  From "The REAL Feed":

This is Joey's "Tim Couch" year, I'll call it...  Will he make or break???

Title: Re: Lions Offseason Report

I, for one, think he'll make it.  Let's face it, he really has been working with a subpar cast.  Last year was the first he had a top-flight receiver in tow (Roy Williams) as Charles Rogers has been injured since jump and the others he's been working with are the likes of Scotty Anderson and Az-Zahir Hakim.  He never had a solid running game until they drafted Kevin Jones last season.  The defense had been awful, making Joey play catch up with a less-than-stellar supporting cast.  Not to mention the Offensive Coordinator roulette he's been playing.

Now, barring the inevitable injury to Rogers, he has three big fast WRs to throw to.  He has a very solid TE in Pollard and a running game with KJ.  The offensive line will be an issue, but might surprise.  And the defense has improved (on paper at least).

So, a lot of the negativity over the past few years has been falling on the QB when he didn't have the support he needed.  What good is a hammer if you don't have any nails?

Absolutely.  Based purely on his production at the end of the 2004 season he is.  I think he's a top 10 back when all is said and done in 2005.

Agreed.  And on top of that, K. Jones has been going in the second round in most of the drafts & mocks I've seen - making him available at a terrific value.  I did a live draft on Friday and got him as my RB2!  (Although I wouldn't expect him to last that long for long.)

More on the pressure-cooker known as Joey Harrington's quarterbacking amidst an ever-increasing star-stunted cast.  From "The REAL Feed":

I know Philly's argument....  But, having all these weapons at his disposal makes for a real double-edged sword...  Is this guy really set up for failure?  One must ask this question when weighing Harrington's fantasy value!!!

Mooch is set up - with Garcia already an expert at Mooch's version of the WCO.  The hook could come out quickly if there's any slipping.  I say draft the weapons.  Someone will be throwing to them. ;D

Joey will have at the Max 3 games to perform, which could be unfair.  Jones, Roy Williams, and Rogers have been on the field for a combined 1 quarter last year.  Could take more than that for those 3 plus pollard and mike williams to get comfortable with the new offense and Joey.  Garica could be a good sleeper pick late in drafts

Being a Lions homer ill give you my view on the Lions. Ill try and keep my cornbread unbuttered for this.  ;D

Ill start with the Qb situation, Harrington will be on short leash here. Harrington if he has worked on his footwork will have no problems running this offence. Every year he has improved and if you look at his stats when Kevin Jones was fully utilized he was a decent Qb and thats all you can ask out of him. Ted Tollner was brought in as O.C. to help tailor make this offence into something that utilizes Joeys skills. Tollner is much more liberal than Mooch in play calling. Hopefully getting rid of the dink and dunk 5 yard passes that plagued the Lions last year.

Joeys stats when Jones was utilized.

1363 yards, 6tds. Hardly staggering numbers one would think with an average of 194 yards per game. But you have to take into consideration that his Wrs consisted of Roy Williams playing injured, Az Hakim who also was injured and missed games, Tai Streets and Reggie Swinton. When you are a young Qb and have a rookiw wr as your go to guy and three other Wrs who are #3 recievers at best your going to have problems. The tight end position for the Lions was nearly non exsistant last year. The entire recieving crew has been upgraded and i will get into that later.
My predicition for Harrington this year will be 3,100 yards and 24 tds.

I will post my thoughts on the rest of the O later.

I've read in a few places that Garcia could miss the entire season...  I'll copy a link next time I see one.
