Title: Garrard and other young unprovens to get looks

Here's the piece available via "the Gridiron Newsstand (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/newsstand.htm)":

Anybody else see any (fantasy) hope for these guys, Garrard, O'Sullivan, Davey or any of the others?  Are any of them (fantasy-football) gems in the rough?  Could be some interesting takes here, I think!

I have heard good things about Garrard.  I am not sure is he is a guy that I would select very early in the 2006 fantasy draft.

In general, I think that QBs are a dime a dozen.  There are the top notch guys (e.g. Peyton Manning and Daunte Culpepper) and then a gaggle of guys who are all have about the same fantasy value.  Considering you can usually get a quarterback such as Jake Delhomme or Jake Plummer in the middle rounds, Garrard would be a late round backup.  That said, he would be a very good  back up who may blossom and become a strong fantasy quarterback.

I am hesitant to put too much faith behind unproven players.  As a Bills fan, I always look to the ill fated acquistion of Rob Johnson.  He too was young and full of promise.  The Bills gave up a lot to make Johnson their guy and they were very disappointed.

Keep in mind that my opinions are also shaped by the fact that I am in a league in which each team has one keeper.  If you are in a deep keeper league where you can prospect a bit, Garrard could be worth picking up.

I too like Garrard.  He looked good in the few opportunities he got last year.

I actually have Garrard on my roster in the GBRFL.  I am really hoping the Jags will move him on draft day.  There are many teams in need a QB. I think after the first few QBs go off the board, there is a good chance it will happen.

If he not moved, he will be dropped.

Why is Pasquarelli giving these guys bonuses now?   ;)

Anyway, Jax could still trade Garrard, although Garrard seems content (if not thrilled) with the prospect of being a backup.

I thought it strange that Jax inked this guy at this time...going into the draft.   Normally, you don't do anything roster-wise going into the draft so you don't tip your hand.

So if I put my Oliver Stone hat on   ;D    there are a couple teams that immediately come to mind as needing QB....AZ & GB.  Neither is in dire straights (great band BTW),  but Kurt Warner needs to go back to baggin' groceries, and Favre is done after this year  [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif] .

I just think the timing of this signing indicates the Jags might be moving Garrard to move up in the draft!

Any thoughts?

Possible, but doubtful.  If they do that, I think the Jags reputation would go down the toilet.  The guy would of been a free agent next year.  THe common practice is for teams to allow the player to ink a deal in seeking a trade, OR to allow him to negotiate with the new team when they trade him.

All the talk is they just wanted to sure him up for three years.  THey gave him a $2 million dollar signing bonus.  If they were gonna move him, they would not have made the bonus for that much.  However, by giving him that much of a signing bonus they are actually enhancing the reputation in my opinion.  They are truly doing the right thing for Gerrard.  And he seems content in Jacksonville.

cmon Diggs!   I'm going Oliver Stone here!   You can't introduce something as trivial as logic or historical trends!

Just open up and let the force flow through you!   ;D
