Title: Should I Trade?
Post by nimzo on Aug 12th, 2005, 9:24am
I have the #3 pick in a 12 team league and might make a trade with the team who has the #7 pick. I would give  him my #1 and #3 for his #1 and #2     What do you guys think?

I would take the deal.   I see 7 strong first round picks.  So you will not lose much in quality.  In addition, you would get the 13th overall pick in exchange for the 23rd.

Obviously the guy wants Peyton Manning.

You are right, he wants Manning. Thanks for your opion! Also, do you think Kevin Jones would be a solid #7 pick?

I'm going to disagree.  I don't think 13 for 23 is enough compensation for you to move from Peyton Manning to Kevin Jones or whomever.

I'd take the 1&2 for your 1 straight up.  If he insists on even picks, I surely wouldn't give him a 3rd!

Is this a keeper league where you already have a couple strong positions?

The most I'd give up for letting him move up 5 spots is 5 or 6.

As for Kevin Jones...I think you're reaching at #7.   Dillon, Rudi, Deuce, Edge or Jamal Lewis...maybe a different direction with Moss or Pepp...more than one of these should be on the board at #7 and would be a better pick IMO.   Jones had a great finish, but there are so many options in Detroit that I don't think anyone makes a great fantasy pick.   Especially when you factor in Harrington.

Good Luck!

I'd trade a first and fourth rounder, but, like Capn said, a third is too high (especially with a serpentine draft).  Also, there's no way Kevin Jones should be going 7th.  There are plenty of better (more proven) options.  Corey Dillon and Rudi Johnson are two that can be gotten late first and will be much safer options.  I also wouldn't consider Culpepper this early (or even a WR for that matter).  Only Manning has the right to go as early as the top couple tiers of RBs.

I guess a lot would depend on scoring.  If a TD is worth 6 points, then I guess the difference would be more if they were worth 4 points.

But to Capt Purples and Phillys points, if you can get a better deal, go for it......

By the way,it's not the 13th for the 23rd. It would be the 18th for the 27th. overall picks. Would that change anything in your minds?

Nimzo, I would take that trade.  The #3 spot sucks, unless you intend to take Manning like the other guys intimated.  Your other reasonable option is Priest Holmes, and his value is way too speculative at this point.

At #7, I agree with Philly that Kevin Jones is a reach, although I wouldn't hesitate to do that anyway (Jones seems to be going at around #12).  The other guys to target at #7 are Deuce McAllister or Jamal Lewis.

Now moving from #27 to #18 will allow you to find somebody like LaMont Jordan, Stephen Jackson or even Rudi Johnson as your #2 back (Johnson has been going around #18, and will probably stay there because of the re-emergence of Chris Perry).
