:-/...what do you guys think - i can drop mike anderson and nab willie parker right now for a buck - who's more valuable...bettis hurt his calf / duce's status is ??? / and NOBODY seems to believe that anderson will hold the top spot... ?.?.?...thanks,

If it were my team I would do it. It sounds like the Steelers like Parker and are going to make every effort to find playing time for him. I agree that Anderson will lose the job... sooner than later.

Okay, I just went ahead and picked some material off "the Gridiron Newsstand" and read about the team's injury situation and Willie Parker in some depth. Yes, I would take him over Anderson by a hair. If this were to be a deep keeper league, then I would definitely take him over Anderson based on youth and team circumstances, i.e., he is behind two aging vets. He seems to have special skills. BUT, with the way that offense is struggling, don't be surprised if his preseason stats don't become indicative of what he does for real during the regular season this year. For that matter, a part-time Denver back like Anderson might put up just as good stats, especially in the area of touchdowns, where he will continue to be a vulture, and be a safer bet. Mind you, it is NOT a lock that Parker becomes the man this season. This is a total flip-of-the-coin, bro. I said that I'd go with Parker, but I gave you the solid counter-argument for Anderson. If this is a deep keeper league, however, dismiss the argument for Anderson and go with Parker... NOW.

Nothing new from me, but I gotta chime in.

Parker will not be "the guy" if either Bettis or Staley is healthy. He is going to play a significant role this year, however, no matter what the status of the 2 RBs ahead of him... and he can turn 10 touches into a monster game. He will probably also have games where he does nothing at all with 5 touches.

Anderson is in more of an all or nothing situation. He has a chance to be the starting RB (25%???), and if he does he will get the majority of the work. If he doesn't, he may become the short-yardage guy, but even that is up in the air.

Redraft league, I know who I would want on my roster, but if I put aside my homerism... yeah its a coin-flip. Deep keeper league its no contest, you have to grab Willie.[smiley=LMFAO.gif] hehe, grab Willie

I am surprised that V. Haynes' name has not come up in this discussion in terms of valuing Parker? Is Parker ahead of him on the depth chart or is it that he has more upside ... or something else? ?.?.?

we may have to switch this to the steelers site - but cower has already said you probably won't see him (parker) again until the first game...that sounds like he's in front now...now so we're not completely illegal, man mike anderson is lookin' good...

Parker is going to get action no matter what (barring something catastrophic), but using him as "the guy" will totally remake the offense - which I don't see them doing this year. If everything continues the way it has been headed, I do see him in that role next year.

The news out of Pittsburgh is Staley and Bettis will miss at least both of the first 2 games. Bettis will have anouther MRI later in the week. There is too much blood around the injury to do it now. A doc buddy of mine says that injury would be one that lingers on a power back such as Bettis. It is obvious that Staleys injury to the knee is not on track. He is not yet running in the swimming pool. That would be something done several weeks before returning.
We know that the Steelers must run the ball to be successful. Willie Parker will be the next Barry Foster. He will carry the ball 25 times a game(IMO). This guy could have a huge year. Pick him up now.

Interesting comparison, Parker to Foster. I see Parker as another Amos Zereoue type. I like Parker, but he's not a workhorse back like Foster was.

I'm sorry. I ment Parker was like Foster as in sitting on the bench for a year or two unnoticed. I cant remember who the back was that was in front of Foster. Possibly Bong (Bam) Morris. Purhaps our resident Steeler guru will help me with that. Anyway. An injury allowed Foster to showcase his skills. He was an impact player until ?????

Will Parker will have the same result ???????

Foster's career with the Steelers was pretty much 1990-1994. In 1995 I know he was with the Bengals in training camp, but disappeared quickly. Going back to the late 70s, as far as running style, I do not remember a back that compares to Willie Parker on the Steelers. (As far as other teams, Clinton Portis?) But as far as producing great results in the background and suddenly getting a shot at the limelight... Foster is an ideal comparison.

Parker has the potential to be a top 5 FF back, put up historical statistics, be a Hall-of-Famer, the hype can go on and on (but he deserves it with what he has done in very limited action). He also did nothing at college and was undrafted. Please notice the emphasis on the words "potential" and "nothing".
