Title: What should I do? Post by Oakland4life on Sep 2nd, 2005, 4:15pm Here is my team: QB- Brees, Rattay RB- McCalister, F.Taylor, A. Thomas, T. Jones WR- Moss, Horn, Branch, M. Williams TE- Shockey K- Janikowski D- Chargers I am in a 14 team league and RB's are very scarce. We use the flex player option minimum 2 RB's 3WR , but can dump the TE for either a RB or WR. Should I just wait a couple weeks to see how F. Taylor performs, or maybe trade a WR for a Feature back? Im also concerned with the displaced Saints and how they are a good chunk of my star players. Any thoughts will be of great help. TYVMIA O4L |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by StegRock on Sep 2nd, 2005, 5:51pm Based on the set-up you described, I think you are good at RB and WR. Assuming he gets out of the gate decently, I would try to move Jones after Week Two or Three to a less-savvy owner. I would also look at moving one of your wide receivers early in the season or Horn or Moss, the provens, right now. You just won't get much for Branch or Williams yet. You REALLY need help at quarterback. BOTH of your current quarterbacks may be riding pine come Week Three, Four or Five. Good [smiley=shamrock.gif] luck, O4l!!! |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by Oakland4life on Sep 2nd, 2005, 6:14pm Is there something about Brees that I don't know? I never really considered Brees not going the distance this year. Yeah, he twisted his ankle yesterday, but I didn't think that was too bad. And after Smith actually woke up yesterday, Rattay won't be as valuable a backup as I hoped. I had Rattay last year as a back up and he did quite well. I guess maybe I should consider trading out Horn now for a Feature QB? |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by StegRock on Sep 3rd, 2005, 12:30am I just think that you have two quarterbacks both of whom have guys behind them that could flourish if/when given the opportunity. In the case of Rattay, really, it's inevitable. As for Brees, it's up to him, BUT... The point is that neither of the situations is a lock and that's what you're relying on. I'd package one of them (preferably Rattay) and a receiver and get something a little more "sure" (to complement Brees). ... On the other hand, I am a Donko fan, so maybe I'm giving you bad info... ;) ... ;D |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by Oakland4life on Sep 3rd, 2005, 2:34pm Pffft...... you can have Shanahan, he's too stuck up anyway :-* Thanks for the advice Steg. Lookn at the percentage owned vs. starting, Im noticing most people are using Brees as a back up. I think I'll package up Ratay and Horn, for T. Green. Just noticed a team that's using HIM as a backup.... thanks again ;D O4L |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by bgsgfan on Sep 3rd, 2005, 2:41pm I am agreeing with Steggie here, and I generally like the idea of Trent Green. However he is having some medical problems and while it shouldn't be a big deal it needs to be at least acknowledged. Also, you might be able to get Trent for less than what you are offering - maybe start with Rattay and Branch. |

Wait a minute. Which Moss do you advise my Raider Nation buddy to move???? For that matter, I would not move Horn without a reason. Pros play where they play. |

That's a good idea, but I think Callie is right about Moss and Horn. Trading one of those guys for a QB, outside of Manning or Culpepper doesn't make alot of sense. Remember, Drew Brees was a pickup last year, and went on to post numbers almost as good as QBs drafted in the earlier rounds. Every year there will be QBs that pop out of nowhere that put up more than adequate numbers. More guys that fit that category from 2004 are guys like Brian Griese, Jake Delhomme Jake Plummer, Carson Palmer and Byron Leftwich. Those guys were drafted in the very late rounds (9+) last year, if at all. Will you be able to pickup a receiver like Moss or Horn during the 2005 season ? Very doubtful, but you might be able to pickup Steve McNair, Joey Harrington, or Kurt Warner and watch them put up Trent Green type numbers. (Who knows, maybe even Eli Manning or JP Losman). |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by StegRock on Sep 4th, 2005, 2:12pm There's a lot of truth in what JYJ points out. Everything goes as planned, there's no way you are going to get Manning for Horn (I'm not as big on Culpepper this year; I think he's going to fall back to the increasingly sizable pack.), though. You NEED to do something about your quarterbacks. On the one hand, you may be okay with the two you have for a little bit. On the other, you are teetering on disaster with them. They could both conceivably be riding pine any given week (after Week One). You just can't go with dudes like that for too long. But, as JYJ says maybe free-agency can be your savior. On the other hand, I think Horn for (a HEALTHY) Trent Green (you may want to wait until after Week One to see how he is), or Branch or Jones and Rattay for Green are also VERY fair options (that you have more control over to get done and can get on more immediately). |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by Oakland4life on Sep 4th, 2005, 6:12pm Thanks for all the feedback guys. And ya, theres no way in hell Im givin up Moss for anyone!! GO RAIDAHS!!! I'll wait it out until after week 2 most likely. I just hope F. Taylor puts up some decent numbers then all I will have to worry about is my QB situation. Ugghh, the week before the season starts is the WORST!! Thanks again, O4L |

Title: Re: What should I do? Post by Callie on Sep 4th, 2005, 10:08pm Sorry I've been away, Oakland. Holiday weekend. I do not think that Brees will bust this year. SD has pretty much the same team they had last year, but they have a much tougher schedule. The other item of interest is that the AFC West (they play them all twice) has a lot of lousey D's. Rattay is not a bad QB, he has good WRs, he has good RBs. His problem is that he has a lousey O line and will have a lot of grass stains on his back this season. In the situation that you are in right now, I would wait for someone to have injury problems and offer a trade - like you said. Keep in mind that fantasy football drafters pick up their QBs (other than the first few) 4 or 5 rounds in. What is your scoring system, and who has something worth trade consideration? ?.?.? |
